Yami~
Another part of my little acrylic on glass series, aka, more random fanart!
William Vangeance Rant
I need more Vangeance!
We know that William Vangeance is strong since he made the Golden Dawn the best squad from scratch, and is considered to be the closest to the Wizard King at the beginning of Black Clover, and aside from a few scenes (Kiten, Yami flashback) we don't get to see the full extent of what he can do! He's done for the count in many major battles (no spoilers for anime only people. Lol).
World Tree Magic opens so many doors for the imagination, the key part being World Tree. There are so many stories about the World Tree in different mythologies AND William is shown to be good at offensive, defensive, and support magic! I just feel like there are so many missed opportunities when it comes to his magic and abilities. (It's not just because he is one of my favs!)
I would love to be able to explore his character more, after all, he has such a kind soul despite all the hate and negativity he received as a child (many serial killers, for example, have bad childhoods, the whole nature vs. nurture argument, but I digress). It would also be a lot of fun to explore the rivalry between William and Yami because we get the flashback when Yami is cheering Asta up, but we don't get a lot besides that.
I don't know, I just wanted to share my thoughts because I truly think that William is an under-used and under-explored character and I would love to be able to see more about what he can do with his magic, and what his life was like to make him who he is. Don't get me wrong, William Vangeance is NOT the only character I feel this way about, but he is the first one to come to mind.
This isn't every thought I have when it comes to William, but I wanted to share a few of them in this rant and get other people's opinions, what do you think about William? Whether you love him or hate him, I'd like to know!
Have some random marvel fanart!
(All Heroes Are Human (Series) Loki isn't always a hero, I know, but it sounds better, and there are more heroes drawn currently so... Yeah!)
Black Cat
I don't have a lot to say about this anime right this second, but it is an oldy having come out in 2005. I recently started rewatching it with my brother because it came to mind. I remembered the comedy pretty clearly but didn't remember how long the darker aspects were.
Anyway, I think my favourite thing about this anime is how important free will, choices, and changes are. We get to watch people who were forced to conform to a way of life or philosophy learn that they have a choice, that what they were told isn't everything and they get to explore new things. We get to see how one interaction can change a life and open new doors to other interactions that shape people, even when it happens later in life.
The song that is sung is a great example of these themes and I just got reminded of how beautiful the anime is in this regard.
Song: Konoyo No Uta
Sing A Song Unto The World,
Rising High The Clouds Un-furl
Gazing At The Twilight Sky,
Broken By A New-borns Cry.
Changes From The Smallest Things,
Gazing At An Angels wings.
Fall Down,
Fall Down,
Falls The Rain.
My Life Is Not In Vain.
Light And Bouncy In The Wind.
Sing A Song Unto The World
Rising High The Clouds Un-furl
Fan The Flames Into The Past.
Hear Now Our Lives Will Last.
We'll Never Know The TImes Of Pain.
Fall Down,
Fall Down,
Falls the Rain.
My Life, Won't Be Plain.
Light And Bouncy In The Wind,
Sings A Song Unto The World.
Fall Down.
Fall Down.
Falls The Rain,
My Life Won't Be Plain.
Another part of the series! Dorothy, acrylic on glass, I think she deserves more love too!
Here is the worst character in Black Clover:
No explanation needed.
Julius and Zora
I just wanted to make sure to post more appreciation for Julius because he really is a great character and I don't think he gets enough attention.
He had immense respect for Zora's dad, even visiting his grave. If Zora had taken off when he bumped into Julius I believe he would have taken Zora in without question.
Despite only getting a glimpse when he was younger, Julius recognized Zora when he crashed the Royal Knights try out, even while he was wearing the mask.
I wonder if it was a mixture of Zora's appearance and his magic that helped Julius recognize him. Zara, Zora's dad, used fire magic and Zora, as we know, uses Ash magic, I think it's rather symbolic, and a cute way of tying father and son to Julius in some way because Julius doesn't care about status or power, he cares about people wanting to protect others.
Even though he doesn't go about it the right way, I believe Julius saw Zara in Zora. Zora's vendetta against Magic Knights is only against the corrupt ones and he protects people from these knights in his own way. Zara would do the same if he saw it, even if he would do it differently.
He cut Zora some slack after the Royal Knights tryout since he had impersonated not just a Magic Knight, but a Magic Knight Captain, and I think it's because, not only did he see his potential, but he also understood why Zora would behave the way he did, given his history.
He absolutely whispered in Yami's ear about Zora, which is why he ends up as a Black Bull not long after the events of the Royal Knight tryouts, and is a magic Knight in order to accept and be allowed to accept the fact he was chosen.
Julius definitely was one of the first steps to Zora being more open about the Magic Knights as a whole when it comes to his warped (for good reason) point of view about them.
Julius is just dad to all Magic Knights, even if they are older than him or the same age. He just treats everyone as his child. XD
That's all for this post! There will be more Julius appreciation to come!
Some more fanart, prideful lion Yuu Kanda. :)
Oohh lets us hear your thoughts and opinions on each turtle in 03 I know you said you liked Leo in this one o did too I love him. He’s my second fav after Raph.
Gladly Anon!
This is going to be a long one, but I'll state by sharing my "order" for the turtles. Aka, my favourite to my least, even though I love them all! Mikey, Donnie, Raph, Leo, Raph and Don sometimes switch depending on the portrayal, but Mikey is always my favorite boy!
In terms of my thoughts on each one, I'll do it in order of oldest to youngest!
Leonardo
Leo is the dependable leader of the group with a strong sense of reliability and discipline. This isn't any different than his portrayal in other series, but viewers get to see him as more of a teenager because he can be peer pressured by his brothers. Seeing him struggle between the teachings of Martial Arts by Master Splinter and the want to have fun with his brothers creates an interesting dynamic and opportunity for growth, which we see a lot of throughout the series.
He is also his brothers' biggest fan. By this I mean that he encourages them to be their best, even when it may not seem that way to some. For example, even though he was an angry, Raph-like Leo, during the rematch for the finals of the battle nexus tournament, he pulled Mikey aside and encouraged him. Told him he could win. He believes in his brothers and that is what makes him an effective leader. He knows their strengths and their weaknesses and knows how to use each skill set effectivity.
Despite believing in his brothers, he tends to try and shoulder everything by himself. If something goes wrong, he blames himself, when he feels like he failed at something, he gets locked in his head and shuts people out. In these moments you can see how the bond between Raph and Leo is vital despite always butting heads. The first time the group goes to the farmhouse, it's Raph he helps pull Leo out of his head.
That being said, he still has a strong bond with each of his brothers. When there is a problem he doesn't know how to solve, he turns to Donnie. When they need someone or something unpredictable, he knows Mikey's got his back. I find that in the 2003 version, the way the brothers, especially Leo, rely on each other is best explored because we get to see them grow as individuals and as a team.
Leo is the most disciplined, he is in every portrayal, but we get to see his dedication much more clearly because while his brothers are goofing off, we see him working on improving his skills, advancing and learning moves that his brothers haven't yet.
He is a dedicated and well disciplined student, reliable and protective brother, honourable friend, and the most mature of the four brothers which is what makes him a great leader. He is still a teenager, and seeing him learn from his mistakes to improve upon the traits I listed only adds to his character's depth.
Raphael
Raphael is the hot head of the group, but he always is, what I love about his character in this series is his character development in terms of controlling his anger. He doesn't learn his lesson and suddenly has better anger management, it still strikes in stressful situations. We can see the progress he makes from season one to season seven, but Mikey always seems to hit that nerve no matter what. The first time we really see how bad his temper is in Season One Episode Four; Mikey beats him in a sparring match and he loses control, attacking him with the intent to hurt. Leo had to stop him, and he was horrified by his actions.
This is also the episode that introduces Casey Jones, and Raph seeing his anger in someone else is what helps him understand his own issues and help Casey grow.
I also find that Raph is more of a team player in this series. He relies on his brothers in situations, even if he still picks fights with Leo and resents him, at times, for being the leader. That being said "count on Raphael to throw the first punch" when his family is in danger, caution is thrown to wind and he'll punch first, ask questions later. His loyalty and devotion to his family is shown in how he won't hesitate anyone or anything that he perceives as a threat to his brothers or Master Splinter.
We can really see his character growth when Leo becomes as angry as Raph because it's Raph who calls him out and tries to get him to control his temper because he understands. It's also nice to see how his anger and temper make him reckless, and how he grows less reckless the more he learns to control his anger.
He likes to be a lone wolf, but he doesn't want to be on his own. He likes his space, but he likes being around his brothers more. He teases them to show his affection and that he cares, and he'll be the first to act if something happened to any of them, even at the risk of his own safety.
At the same time, he is still a hot head and doesn't always think things through, such as triggering traps before his brothers have a chance to get through because he's cocky about it. He's still a little self centered at times, which is why he can't be the leader, but it doesn't mean that he isn't a supportive brother. He makes sure to let his brothers know he's proud of them, without seeming like a softy.
He's hot headed, head strong, and ill-tempered, but he is also steadfast, reliable, and always has the backs or shells, of the people or mutants he cares about.
Donatello
"He's the brains of the bunch," and if he wasn't, he wouldn't be Donatello. He spends more time fiddling with tech and inventing gadgets than he spends training or mastering Martial Arts, he is also the brother with the least amount of natural talent, but that doesn't mean he isn't skilled. What he lacks in talent, he more than makes up for with his knowledge and ability to apply sciences and maths to a fight.
The bond between Don and his brothers is different in this series than in others, and by that I mean that Don and Mikey get along more than other iterations. Mikey is Mikey, and he tends to accidentally break or damage things which leads to Donnie keeping him out and away from his experiments and inventions. However, in the 2003 and three series we see the two of them interacting a bit more. From Mikey bugging Donnie to make the Battle Shell, to helping him with his experiments by gathering samples or testing things, the two youngest have a much stronger bond than any other series I've seen.
It can also be seen during fights since Donnie and Mikey usually end up together when the brothers get separated.
Don is always in his head, he tends to spend too much time thinking instead of just acting when certain situations call for it, however, the 2003 series does a great job of him showing how to make peace with doing both.
We also see each of the turtles use their skills in more specific roles, such as Don making night vision goggles for night patrols and to see the invisible foot ninja. He may not be at the forefront of a fight, but he can work on the background to give the ground an upper hand, and defend himself enough to make sure he isn't a sitting duck as he does. The 2003 series does the best job, in my opinion, of showing the intelligence behind the purple bandana, especially when he figures out how to use foreign and advanced technology.
Michaelangelo
My baby. I love him, in every series, no matter what.
Anyway, he is arguably the most naturally gifted of the four; the fact he uses a more complex weapon, Nunchucks, and is as skilled as he is with the least amount of effort is a good example of this. More evidence of this can be found in other TMNT media, but I don't want to spoil things for anyone who doesn't know.
Mikey also gets the group into trouble more than any of the others, and always by accident. The very first episode has him hiding from the purple dragons inside their truck. This of course creates the scenario where they are exposed to people (the dragons) instead of the in and out that Leo had planned. His trouble making does sometimes result in something that helps them in the future, again, the first episode. It ends up with them having a truck to overhaul.
He's also portrayed as naive and unobservant rather than stupid like he is in some newer iterations (*cough*2012*cough*). He matures and changes, but he never loses his fun loving, party dude, chill and relax attitude. He is the only one of the four to not go through a period of blinding anger. Even when he falls behind and doesn't get to graduate to a new rank with his brothers, because he is too laid back in Fast Forward, we see him mature when he states that he isn't ready, despite passing the trials. It's that trial that shows him mature, but he's still the same playful Mikey at the end of the day.
Some could say that he is the comic relief. The one who doesn't take things seriously and provides a different way to look at things, remaining positive, most of the time. He's the dramatic one, quoting the shows he watches, screaming in situations that are scary or dangerous while his brothers stay calm.
Mikey can seem so simple at times that his solutions work, we see this happen with the power crystal they find in their new home. He suggests that Don plugged it in wrong, and Don disagrees, of course, but in a desperate situation he turns it around and Mikey was right. Of course, he doesn't let Don live it down either.
He's the one who can add the element of surprise to a fight in a way no one else can because he is unpredictable in a fight. This unpredictability of course, often leads to trouble. The simple description of him in the theme song says it best, "The wise guy is Michaelangelo."
He's sarcastic, witty, playful, goofy, and a big dreamer with a big heart, it's why I believe he is the heart of the group, uplifting them when things get difficult and disheartening.
Bonus
Brains, Brawn, and Beauty...
Leo: Body
Raph: Brawn
Don: Brain
Mikey: Heart
They are all beautiful in my opinion. ;)
Anyway, I hope this is what you were looking for Anon! :)
It's a series, here is an acrylic on glass of Fuegoleon!
Aka, more random fanart.
Julius Novachrono
Random thoughts
He is William and Yami's dad. Full stop. Can't tell me otherwise.
Every time there is a fight with new magic, I just imagine a little grandma hiding in a corner or something because he is the cutest magic geek
Example, the first fight with Licht, when the roof of the cave collapsed, I can just imagine little old lady Julius on a piece of falling rubble
Time magic is insane and I want to see mooorrreee!
He has such a soft spot for William it is insane.
He is just so nice!
I love how he encouraged Asta and Yuno when it came to becoming the wizard king
He is going to give Marx a heart attack one day
He should just be the king of clover, king clover sucks. Julius is best boy.
He definitely has a soft spot for Yami too.
He's definitely a fan of arts and crafts (look at William's mask!)
Asta is his son. (This is mostly a joke, but like, he definitely has enough magic considering Asta's mom's power! Plus, they are the only two who have the star eyes!)
Asta being his son isn't the craziest theory and it would be kinda cute! (I don't know how much I believe it, but it's fun to think about!)
How does a coverless Grimoire work? Like, we see it, it's huge, we also see it with one spell, but how do pages attach or form? At the Grimoire ceremony did a random page fly at him the way books do? I need answers. (Not actually but it would be nice!)
He deserves more love. Just saying.
Idiot Rabbit
This was my first attempt at doing chibi art and colouring it with alcohol markers! I plan on redoing Lavi, especially since the characters I did after turned out even better!
I'm not a fan of the Hallow outfits, so I likely won't be drawing anything with those (unless requested), but I'm excited to share my art with people who might appreciate it! :)
TMNT 2003 Is the Best Version
I don't care if people don't agree, it's my opinion, but as a huge fan who has watched (almost) every single iteration of these no longer teens, teenage adventures! Saturday mornings I would watch the original 1987 series on teletoon retro, then switch to whichever channel was showing the 2003 version.
In my opinion, the 2003 TMNT series had a lot of cool concepts and really focused on each of the brothers individual growth. I'm not usually a fan of Leo (I like him but not as much as other characters) but I liked Leo this series. The fact each turtle had a different mode of transportation was also a cool detail. Mikey used a skateboard, classic, while Raph- rollerblades, which fits him well because of his sais, he has to get up close and personal to fight which can be done easier on blades over a skateboard. Donnie used a bicycle, which again, fits him. A bike is timeless, dependable, and one of the easier things to use which lets Don focus on his inventions. Finally, Leo has a scooter. I don't have much to say about that since it seems more like a "what other thing can we give him?" And I personally can't think of anything either.
I also loved the fact that each turtle was a different shade of green, and how they found a way for shredder to keep coming back as a threat was cool too, on top of the fact that Shredder was more organized crime than ninja rival since he had the purple dragons under his thumb and hired Baxtor Stockman.
It was definitely darker than the original cartoon, (not the comics) but done in a way that was still appropriate for kids at the time. To this day I'll still randomly sit down and watch the series start to finish. Unfortunately, it makes some of the newer version seem less appealing. Like the 2012 version. I liked the first season and some of the second, but it felt like it was trying to use what the 2003 one did to be successful instead of coming up with new ideas after season two. The character designs were cool for some of the new mutants but it just wasn't right for me.
The Rise of (2019 version) cartoon was fun and explored different dynamics. It wasn't meant to be taken as seriously since I compared it to Teen Titans go, so it doesn't feel fair to compare that one.
Mutant Mayhem (2023 movie) reminded me of what I enjoyed about the 2003 (some things definitely bugged me but it was still a good movie!). This is because it took a different approach that was still possible within the universe and explored new dynamics again.
Another thing that came from the 2003 version was the 2007 movie, at least, it feels like it was heavily inspired by the dynamics and story within it while also acting as a continuation for the original live action movies (1990s) it also ended up with a Game Cube version of the game (my brother and I played it so much we could get through it without ever being hit by an enemy!) and if the 2007 doesn't count to some, I don't think we can forget about the Turtles Forever Movie. As someone who watched and liked the 1987 turtles, they definitely didn't do them justice in my opinion, but they were fun and added a funny dynamic between how people view cartoons from the 80s and cartoons from the 2000s.
I probably have more to say, but that's all I have for now! I will definitely be posting more TMNT content because they have been my favourites since I was little and still are to this day!
OH! HOW COULD I POST THIS AN NOT MENTION THE PUNS!!!
Everything had something related to turtles and it was amazing. Shell Cell, Battle shell, shell cycle, so on and so forth.
D. Gray-Man needs more love!!!
I don't care how old the anime is, or how slow new chapters are to release, whenever I think of an anime/manga to recommend or show, I always think of this one! I honestly believe, after all these years, D. Gray-Man is my favourite anime and manga series!
So, because I think it needs more love I will be giving it more love with some sort of post every week! If no one interacts or likes it, I'm still gonna do it because it needs some love!!
To start.
My favourite character is Lavi/Rabi, bookman junior, idiot rabbit, eye patch-kun (potentially the heart, a rant for another post. Haha.)
He's such a complex character because he's had so many different identities with different personalities, but they are him and it's so interesting! Plus, I don't want to give spoilers but it's an old anime and this was revealed, so, how is it Bookman was able to move to the order's side after Lavi became his junior when before he was on the Noah's side? Why does he wear an eye patch? It's not from an injury, that has been stated, so why the eye patch?! There are theories about that too, but for another post!
Anyway, that's it for post one. Stay tuned for post two!
Random William Vangeance Fanart, painted on glass, super proud of it!
Black Bull Girl
Don't get me wrong. I love Fuegoleon, he is amazing (his voice actor certainly helps with that in my eyes, haha) but something has been bugging me for ages.
Why does he call Noelle "Black Bull Girl?"
Like, they're cousins. He should know who she is!!!?? Mereoleona knows Noelle, Mimosa knows Noelle, the Vermillions know each other. Hell! Fuegoleon and Nozel have been rivals since they were children so how can Fuegoleon not know Noelle's name at the very least!?
Not to mention, in a dire situation like the attack on the capital, saying "Noelle" would be much faster than saying "Black Bull Girl" when giving orders. Black Bull Boy makes sense for Asta since this is the first time they've met, but how Fuegoleon addressed Noelle has always been weird to me!
William Vangeance
Random Personal Head Canons
Only had plants and animals as companions growing
Is more comfortable with plants and animals than people
Treats people with the kindness he never recieved as a child
Doesn't put much importance in his mobility or last name
Doesn't care about Nobles vs. Commoners having lived as both
Once tried to grow his hair to hide his scars, never tried it again because it didn't look right
His connection to Patri is what kept him alive during his darkest moments, even before the elf was awake
He did try to talk Patri out of his plans a few times, but ultimately couldn't
Had nightmares for as long as he could remember, those nightmares were Patri's memories
Despite it not seeming that way, he had confidence in his fellow nights when it came to the elf invasion. He couldn't choose but the magic knights could stop it
His fight with Zenon wasn't as short lived as it seemed (each fight the siblings took part in happened at the same time, we just didn't see them at the same time)
His fight against Zenon would have gone on longer if his focus wasn't on protecting his squad
Absolutely would have gone with Zenon willingly in order to keep his squad out of harm's way
Would have fought back once in an isolated area to avoid casualties
Visits Patri and the remaining elves regularly
His gratitude towards Jack and Yami for treating him the same is why he didn't let them win the game of cards
Would give up his entire salary to repair the kingdom if he was asked
Encouraged his squad members to leave the Golden Dawn and go to other squads due to his betrayal, is beyond grateful for their continued trust in him, even though he feels he doesn't deserve such loyalty
Spends his days off after the elf invasion helping with repairs, especially in the commoner realms
Has never been able to sleep well
Will randomly grow a tree so hide in and wallow in his feelings
Can barely look at Julius after the elf invasion
Made a garden at the Golden Dawn base in order to have multiple animal companions
Will stand in nature for hours, still as a statue just to enjoy time with birds and other animals
Rescues animals on a regular basis
Keeps tabs on his squad members anytime he can, in case they run into danger
Uses the mask to hide more than just his scars (reactions and emotions, it's like his shield)
He was born with a curse because Patri's spirit shared his body (demon spell/curse on Patri, affected William type of thing)
Never returned to the Vangeance estate after becoming a knight
Despite her treatment of him, he doesn't hold anything against his step-mother
Has always found comfort in plants
Works himself to exhaustion, especially after the elf invasion
Feels incredibly guilty for being the cause of so much hardship, twice (elf invasion, demons using his magic for their gate)
There will likely be more later.
