Stoick stood in the door frame and took some of the wood from his daughter’s arms. Carrying this much weight made her slow and the wind was already blowing into the house. It fought with the fire but in the end the wind lost as Stoick closed the door as soon as his children were safe inside. “Put them next to the fire”, he said, “and get the cauldron set in place!” “Have the two of you eaten while out on your quest?”, he asked in the usual adult-worried-about-their-kids-voice.
Hiccie jumped up and down as soon as some of the logs were taken from her to try to get herself warmer, then she seemed to remember a fire was there and she ran to the hearth, putting the remaining wood next to it. She motioned to her brother to get the cauldron and in the end decided she wouldn’t wait and ran to help him carry it. “Eat? No! Who got time for that on an adventure!?”
Stoick laughed and his voice rumbled through their house. The hairs on his furry cloak shook until his laughter slowly dies into a faint smile. “Then I guess I have to make sure my two adventurers have their bellies filled after their long quest!”
As their father moved into the corner were they stored their food, Hiccup carried the big cauldron towards the fire and heaved it over the hot element. He flinched when a flame came a bit to close to his leg, so he made sure to take a quick step back. Then he was on his way to get a bucket to fill it up with the collected water from their back yard.
“Cheese and bread is what I can offer my brave kids!”, exclaimed Stoick as he returned to the fire-lit space, looking expectantly as his daughter as his son was out of sight for the moment.
