"A rare photo of a telecom technician hatching. He even still has parts of the eggshell on his head."
I like this version of this comic.
The worst thing you can do, as someone who has recently realised they are transfem, is to let terves and transphobes convince you cis women will never accept you.
I was told that when I came out everyone would reject me. That I would find myself isolated from the world, and from other women especially, who would react to me with horror and revulsion.
In reality, within the first months of coming out, in no particular order:
My sister's reaction on my coming out was, "Right, so I have a sister instead of a brother. Cool. I'm taking you clothes shopping tomorrow."
A friend, when she learned I am a woman, immediately invited me to her women-only, girls-night-out birthday party the following week.
Another friend, when a friend of hers expressed doubts about my gender, immediately shut them down and reaffirmed I am a woman.
I went camping with a group of friends, and we had two tents, one for the boys and one for the girls; I was unsure as to which I should enter, to which a girl friend responded by grabbing me and physically dragging me inside the women's tent.
In the women's bathroom at a movie theatre a random woman, whom I'd never seen before and haven't seen since, stopped me as I was going into a stall, to warn me there was no toilet paper in there, because she'd just used the last of it.
All of these, and more, some from friends, some from complete strangers. All within a few months, as a trans woman who hadn't started medical transition yet, and was very visible as being a trans woman.
I've had some people reject me, true, but the vast majority, including almost all cis women, accepted me as a sister with open arms.
Cis women are cool. It's terves who are bigots.
weirdest side effect of the pandemic is how many people i know who get sick and say 'but my covid tests are negative so i should be fine' like you know other illnesses. exist. right.
everyone more pretentious than me is an insufferable poseur and everyone less pretentious than me is a clueless philistine
romantic and sexual partner.
12/Clara photoshoots aesthetic, itâs what I thrive for
queerplatonic is whatever those 3 middleaged animal men from ice age had btw. i hope you understand now
No, unironically that's kinda how i explained QPRs to my sis.
I was like "Okay, think of your best friend. You love him, right? Would you share a house with him? Marry him? Raise a child with him?"
Those fuckers went to the ends of the earth together. Through thick and thin and when they had a chance to get out of it, decided to just keep hanging together. Even after they started their own romantic and familial relationships, the relationship between that Mammoth, Sloth, and Sabertooth meant just as much
lmao on the edinburgh zoo site it says âthere is a daily penguin parade at 14:15 but it may be cancelled last minute as it is a voulntary parade, we do not coax the penguins with food, and they may not want to go outâ lmao anarchopenguinism
this is the cutest goddamn thing iâve ever heard
I saw the penguin parade. It was a very slow parade, because the pingĂŒinos take their sweet time and arenât very fast walkers to begin with.
can I volunteer to be a penguin
I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr Iâve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.
So a while back (I canât remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just⊠followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they canât get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.
Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian Kingâs Guard. This isnât really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that thereâs a penguin in the Norwegian army
Reblogging with Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III inspecting his troops.
Carry on âŠ
I love everything about this post.
A GOOD POST
A lovely older friend of mine lived in Edinburgh when she was a small child, and regularly attended the penguin parade â as a penguin. That is, she was a small toddler and thus about the right height and speed, and she just waddled along with everyone else who was about 2â high.
So the answer to âcan I volunteer to be a penguinâ is at least occasionally âyes.â
I would like to wish everyone an uneventful new year
May we live in very uninteresting times
may you experience very precedented events
Goncharov wouldnât be half as entertaining if Tumblr werenât completely and utterly willing to âyes andâ all the initial flaws. Katyaâs name should be Goncharova? Her calling herself Goncharov reflects her complicated relationship with both her gender and her queerness. Andreyâs name should be Andrei? No, because heâs actually a Ukrainian being mistaken for a Russian by the Italians, which is central to his character and the themes about identity and nationality in the wake of the collapsed USSR. The USSR wouldnât even fall until 20 years after the film was made? Matteo JWHJ0715 was ahead of his time.
Itâs a great example about how good faith approach to writing can really enhance the reading, when you treat flaws as opportunities rather than just nitpicking them or erasing them. The mistakes being folded into Goncharov makes for a deeper, stronger, and more interesting story than if those mistakes had never happened at all.
reading A Study in Scarlet the first time like
Arthur Conan Doyle: hehe thank you for picking up my silly little book about a silly little man going on silly little adventures haha! hope he can solve all the silly little mysteries hehehe! come on in get comfyâ *locks door* MORMONISM IS A CULT
I think that it was interesting that the Study in Scarlet was informed by ACD hearing about somewhat contemporary accounts of things like the Mountain Meadows Massacre (where over a hundred pioneers passing by Mormon territory, with the raiders stealing the settlerâs stuff and kidnapping the children to indoctrinate into their religion), how Joseph Smith and Brigham Young had a friend/henchman theyâd send out to commit murders for them (Porter Rockwell), etc. etc. But âcause those things arenât as frequently taught about, folk kind of think that ACD was just being an asshole.
"Villain era," I hiccup between sobs as I'm forced to assert basic boundaries for my mental well being.
I can't believe home depot literally produced a wildly successful science fiction musical and we all just pretend it didn't happen. on one hand yes it had a boring white guy main character but like.... home depot just... Made it? And it had shit ton of box office sales? and no one even talks about this. this is like avatar (2009) all over again
OK so. After a lot of frantic googling I realized this was all a dream. home depot did not in fact produce a wildly successful science fiction musical. I was on allergy meds and took a nap and my brain simply prophesized this. slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch it.
Is anyone else ever a little baffled by the cis women who consider womenâs restrooms and locker rooms these safe havens from abuse and sexual harassment?
Like I feel like there are two options here:
1. They did not have mean girls in their school
2. They were the mean girls in their school and didnât realize all the shit they were doing to the other girls in the locker room was absolutely sexual harassment and sometimes assault
I would only nuance this with two other possibilities that work in tandem with these:
3. Theyâre probably skinny and able-bodied with no significant scarring on their bodiesÂ
4. They didnât grow boobs as a preteen
kitty wrapped. in a little blanket
A few days ago I came across a video that really resonated with me and I canât find it but what was said is stuck in my head.
âMy whole personality was being smart and then one day I wasnât â
I was always just the smart and nerdy kid and after the pandemic, and everything else that happened to me, I ended up failing exam after exam. And with that title of smart being gone Iâve come to realise I never developed an actual personality.
