How to start with radqueer?
Have you seen radqueer around and want to know more? Do you want to get into movement but the amount of info is overwhelming? Do you want to come out as radqueer and give someone overview of what is it? Do you want to get someone into radqueer?
No matter what is it, it is a place to find your answers. Below you will find a quick guide on how to understand radqueer and get into the movement!
APPROACH WITH OPEN MIND
Radqueer is a movement of radical support towards good-willed identities. It means that no one has malicious intentions and what they identify as is for their personal reasons. As long as you are respectful and willing to learn everyone will accept you too!
Understand what radqueer supports
Radqueer supports many different identities. Take time to read about each one to understand what it means.
Start with researching:
- overlapping contradictory identities (mspec gays/lesbians, lesboys, turigirls, transman lesbian, transgirl gay etc.)
- transIDs (trace, transabled, transage, transreligion, transplural etc.)
- paraphilias (necro, zoo, pedo etc.)
- nontraumagenic systems (explore different systems origins)
- freedom in fiction (proship, darkship, compship etc.)
- nonhumanism (otherkin, therian, otherhearted etc.)
- bodilyautonomy
Find different resources
A lot radqueers made cards, wikis, pages, and blogs about radqueer in general or it's specific aspects.
Feel free to browse them, read about different labels, and identities. Maybe you will see that you relate to some or something you thought doesn't have a name is actually a radqueer identity. The more you read, the easier it will be for you to understand radqueer.
Do mind exercises
When you read about it ask yourself how these things make you feel and try to tell why you feel like that. If you feel negative emotions ask yourself why. Why do radqueers who live their true lives without fear of judgment make you feel that way? Maybe those are just repressed feelings. If you are confused try to play the game 'Why would someone identify like that?' where you try to come up with reasons for identifying with some label. It's really fun and it helps you be kinder towards others.
Work to be more mindful
Try to use inclusive language. Not everyone is a person, not everyone is an individual, not everyone is a human. Undo personal biases. Practice not asking for chronoage, their biological body, or their cis identities if they don't share them. If you struggle with xenopronouns or emojipronouns practice them! Make an OC who uses them and practice using them by talking about them. Work on providing image descriptions, typing quirk translations (if you use it), and voice message transcription.
Start interacting with the community.
In radqueer community everyone is open and welcoming. As long as you are respectful and nice, everyone will be happy for you to be there. Look into tags you found the most interesting on Tumblr, join servers on Discord, and look up things on other social media. Just remember to respect anyone you come in contact with, their identities and boundaries. When asking questions be genuine and nice.
CONGRATULATIONS!
