I guess this is how I’m processing what we’re all going through right now. I had the stray thought, “What is Spider-Man doing during all this?” and this happened. Don’t have spoons for long explanation - also this is only speaking for christianity - but religion has been a force of oppression for women, people of color, and lgbt+ people and the rejection of the religion is often coupled with the rejection of how religion treats them.

I’ll also say that abuse survivors are included in this because it is a reaction to and an attempt to reconcile how (christian) god would allow abuse to happen.

For straight white men atheism is usually rooted in intellectual and rational superiority complexes. It’s a “i am more rational and intelligent than you, how can you believe in something so obviously fake” thing as opposed to a reaction to a societal institution that upholds their oppression and abuse.

Women, PoC, Queer people, immigrants, trauma survivors, etc:  How can I believe in something that teaches you to be cruel?  How can I trust the books that tell me of peace and love, when you use your faith to hurt me?  How can a loving god allow [insert injustice of the day]?

Yep! The man I refer to as my husband? We aren’t actually married. We can’t be.

If I married him, the government would literally expect me to care for him and be his sole source of income. He would lose all of his benefits, including SSDI. Spouses are expected to share income and that effects ALL of his benefits, even his health insurance. We simply can’t afford to be married.

But it goes even further than that. If I were disabled, our incomes would STILL be combined, meaning BOTH of us would have our benefits cut.

For people reviving supplemental income, their benefits can be cut anywhere from 25% of their current income all the way down to 0%

In fact, one of the stipulations of receiving income under the adult disabled child program (which provides benefits for people who were disabled before age 22) is that they LITERALLY never be married.

I normally don’t link to blog posts as resources, but since social service resource sites like to dress this problem up and make it seem smaller than it really is, I’m gonna call it appropriate! Check it out!

He came out to his dad when he was 20, and then his mum when he was 21, after trying very hard to hide that part of himself and never really discussing anything like that in their household. Seriously though, to any 13/14 year olds, you're a child. You might still be in middle school. Please don't worry about what position you like in sex. Worry about passing your tests

Why is changing your appearance a bad coping habbit? It doesnt do any harm and can help in feeling like you “opened a new fresh page”. Yellow didnt say Steven has to look a certain way to be happy, she gave him the freedom to decide for himself (“you can be big if you want to or you can be small if you want to”)

Blue’s weed jokes are fun and all but all she’s doing is letting people feel her own joy. Its like empathy of the part of whoever chooses to interact with it. Think about seeing someone you love get excited and happy about something you don’t get- that kind of contagious happiness.

(Also weed is fine in small doses just like most enjoyable things in life and in the episode no one was drowning themselves in blue’s clouds to escape reality, so even that analogy doesnt reflect bad usage of that)

White doesnt encourage self harm? She lets you channel your thoughts and be heard. She is also doing it so she could see from the perspective of life forms she previously considered “lower”. Its open mindess. Things escalated with Steven because he’s Steven and he cant face himself these days. But facing yourself in general isnt bad. Its good actually.
