some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

Too many children in the comments like ‘I think authors should be able to share ko-fi links :) it’s just nice’ and ‘OP is just a cop.’ Homie, OP is trying to keep AO3 fully functional without interruption. I will report your ass, too, because I value fic artists and our freedom of expression and my audience and our shared history far more than I value the few bux you wanna make on a commission.

It is not hard to link to your Tumblr or Twitter with a vague message like, “If you’re looking for my other works or other ways of supporting me, go here: link.” I have had people buy me coffees after enjoying my fic and asking where to support me. I threw up a link to my Tumblr and people cared enough to follow it. They were fully understanding when I explained in the comments that they could not commission me and I could not link them directly to any donation platform, but they could go to xyz link to read more. And they did! Nobody has to put AO3 directly on the firing line.

Go ahead and commission independently. Just do it anywhere else except on AO3. And then don’t come crying to the community when you, personally, get a C&D from a massive corporation.

AO3 is our bullet shield. Tumblr will pull your shit down. Wattpad won’t fucking protect you. LJ and FF.net already sold our asses for one (1) corn chip. AO3 is trying to protect us, you goddamn lemmings.

If you cannot follow the rules that protect fanspaces, you do not belong in our fanspaces.

The only people who misunderstand this are doing so intentionally and maliciously. Do yourself a favor and block the infants who think this isn’t a big deal.

I think a lot of younger people are seeing this as a moral panic by OP. These are NOT being laid out as moral injunctions! This is not about being good! This is about covering your own ass and keeping fandom away from larger-scale legal trouble. No one is saying “If you break the rules you’re BEING BAD!” They’re trying to tell you “breaking these rules is DANGEROUS for yourself and potentially others as well!”

All through high school I wrote fic on my TI-83 graphing calculator using the alpha function. I discovered you could write an “equation” about 449 lines long this way before the calculator stopped accepting input and I had to hand copy it to paper.

After that I wrote fic on the note function of my old LG flip phone where you had to press 7 four times to types S.

Also wrote fic on a paper plate while at a party at least twice.

Side Note To Fan Fic Authors

Here’s the thing.

I read a lot of scripts. A lot. From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies. Features and pilots. Specs and treatments.

And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I’ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff. It’s more inspired. It’s more compelling. It’s genre bending and creative and heartfelt. It’s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful. It’s smart and thoughtful and good. It’s novel-quality. Better than, sometimes.

Rare is the script I don’t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic? And it’s not even a fan fic author’s day job. This is what they do on the side. In their spare time. For free.

So my point is, fan fic authors, you’re good. You’re good writers and great storytellers. I know it doesn’t always feel like it, especially if you’re one of the authors who’s not a BNF and doesn’t get the notes/hits that a few do. And because some people still view fic as “not real writing.” You guys know the shit that gets made into movies. You’re better than that. So be better than that. If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you’re already doing it. You’ve already started.

And you’re more talented than you might think.

Hospital AU but Castiel is a doctor or nurse and Meg is a patient.

1. Okay I’m assuming that this is gonna be Cas and Meg specific with the Winchesters on the fringes/secondary characters so let’s establish that at first. We’re gonna keep it in the same time period soooo 2012 ish (bc s7 has this very idea but reversed).

2. Does the supernatural exist here? I’m gonna say yes but in a different way than it does in the show. Cas is a doctor and is examining a strange new disease outbreak. Meg is a patient infected with this disease. It turns out to be supernatural in origin, and all the other patients are the other demons in the original show. Yes, you guessed it: this outbreak turns people into demons.

3. So, regular doctor Cas eventually figures this out and works with his patient Meg in order to work out how to stop it/how to stop it by supernatural and magical means. In doing so, they start to fall for each other (I’m assuming this is intended to be Megstiel).

4. Angels are the hospital administrators/other doctors. The ones allied with Cas in canon are helping him out here, the ones not are trying to keep it hushed up. Chuck, the main shareholder, worked with Azazel the demon to release the virus bc he wants to experiment on its effects. Sam and Dean in this universe are the experts they consult who already know abt the supernatural.

5. It eventually ends with no cure being found for turning into a demon so Meg has to go through it but in the end still loves Cas and they’re able to make it work.
