My mom was telling me about this YouTube video she watched (I can't remember the name, sorry) where the person shared a screenshot of some MAGA voter from Florida asking for help, because his wife had been hired for a nursing job with the VA in Texas, so they sold their house and were preparing to move. But they rescinded her job offer after Trump's executive order. The post from the guy was basically like "I already contacted Senator Ted Cruz's office, and they said they couldn't do anything about this. Please help me get this story to President Trump, we love him! We voted for him 3 times! And we know this was just a mistake and he'd help us!"

This is the part about believing in universal human rights that can be a bit difficult: they're universal, and should never be denied anyone, no matter who they are or what they have done.

You can be – you should be – furious with people who voted for Trump, for wilfully trying to sabotage those rights and make them conditional, a privilege for the "deserving", a privilege they can deny the "wrong" kind of people.

And when the MAGA crowd are hit by the consequences of their actions, and denied basic human rights because it turns out their Great Leader doesn't actually include his followers among the privileged, it's tempting to say that they deserve to be denied those rights, because that's what they wanted to do to others.

But if you do that, you don't truly believe that those rights should be universal; you just have a different idea than the MAGA crowd about who should be included among the privileged.

You can still tell the MAGA who's crying that the leopards ate their face that you're angry with them for letting the face-eating leopards loose. But you shouldn't be fine with their face being eaten.

so my brother was telling me about this human resources certification he attended a while ago. in a panel, the panelist asked a bunch of people in attendance, “who here knows if an applicant for a job is right for it in under 60 seconds?”

hands shot up around the room, people smug about their ability to “weed out the riff-raff” when it came to hiring for their fortune 500.

Today, I took my wheelchair out to go to the library. I usually use crutches when out, but today I decided to bring my wheelchair. It was…an experience. A very upsetting one.

It started off good. The bus drivers were nice and secured me correctly. Everything was great. That was until we had to take a short walk to the library. The sidewalks were uneven, businesses had tables and chairs in the middle of the sidewalk. The cross walks were to steep and had bumps at the bottom of them, so when I’d go down them, I would almost tip forward, and once even did tip forward. Luckily my partner caught me before I fell out, but my stuff went flying. It was very upsetting, but I laughed it off.

Before I went to the library, I did look up if they had an accessible entrance, and according to them, they did. So I went, and I learned quickly that it wasn’t accessible at all. The ramp into the library was too steep. I couldn’t get up it myself and needed my partners help. The library itself inside, was great! Except the fact there were stepping stools in the isles that I couldn’t get around so my partner had to move them. Besides that, the inside of the library was great.

All in all, the library itself was great and accessible to me. But the walk to the library? Not at all. The entrance to the library? Not accessible. Accessibility is more than a ramp. It needs to be something that people can actually use. It was very very frustrating and upsetting. I deserve to be in places with my wheelchair. I deserve to use my wheelchair. I deserve to walk around the town. I deserve all of that.

Luckily my partner was willing to help, and was more then happy to help me out all along the way, although we did both agree that I will probably not be taking my wheelchair back into town anytime soon. I hate it. Made me very upset. Made me want to cry and meltdown. Made me want to scream.

Society itself needs to do better. Towns need to do better.

I know this is easy to see as "millennials and Gen Z upset they can't live in fancy areas", but... it's not that. It's that we want to live where we grew up, because those are the places we love. It's that a lot of us want to live in the same place as our LITERAL FAMILY, because having a community is so important and so many people of our generation are being priced out of having family nearby to help if we're on good terms with them. We can't even be close enough to our families to go over for a meal. It's that so many homes that could have been for normal rent or up for sale are now being held by fucking short-term rental AirBnB/VRBO GHOULS, so tourists can visit the places we consider home. I don't know why the idea that "if you grow up in a place, you should be able to afford to live in that place as an adult - not in the same neighborhood as your parents, even, but in the same CITY OR REGION, CLOSE ENOUGH TO VISIT YOUR FAMILY" is so absurd. You should be able to escape your family, yes... you should be also to stay near them without having to LIVE with them. You should be able to grow up and find a partner to live with and get pets and maybe have children and still not have to move hundreds of miles from your family. But this is what so many of us are being forced to do now. I think we should focus on this the same way conservatives fixate on the birthrate. If anything is destroying families, maybe it's this.
