Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is my main inspiration in my “NOW” Project. I’m looking at memories we have “now”. Some are real and some aren’t. Deja Vu is an example of having a memory of something that happened that most of the times in fact never existed. Andy’s use of repetition made me think of Deja Vu. Repeating objects as if they were memories. In his ‘Marilyn Diptych’ he repeats a print of Marilyn which fades the more copies he makes. That to me signifies fading memories in a way. Something that happened once will never turn out the same no matter how hard you try to make it perfect.

“NOW” PROJECT > showing how the memories we have “now” aren’t necessarily real. Deja Vu is my main focus now. Repeating memories (using photographs) to see how how certain events seem like they fit into a time or place that isn’t connected.

More experiments with Photoshop. I layered two or more pictures (all of which were taken from my camera roll from different times in my life) to show how false memories work. We put ourselves in places we haven’t been in reality because that’s how our brain fills in the gaps in our memories. I changed up the colours/opacity as well to form a glitch-like effect.

Using same app as I mentioned in my previous post but this time I took a screen recording as I messed around with different settings. This resulted in the glitch “coming to life”.

I wanted to play with editing apps on my phone. I wrote DEJA VU in my copy and took a picture of it just to use it as a sample. The app I used allowed me to create a glitch effect which I was after. Deja Vu is said to be a feeling of having already experienced the present situation and many people have conspired that we live in a simulation and that Deja Vu is just a glitch in our world. I thought that was an interesting theory and wanted to put my simple and quick spin on it using art as my outlet.

I’m experimenting with photographing repeating (everyday) objects in a random manner. I took the photo below but I didn't like the low quality and colours so I decided to play around with Photoshop using the original and I’m much happier with the edited version. I really like the colorful contemporary, almost static look to it.

Repetition of words is an easy way to show emotion in your art without having a complicated image. Words have meaning (different to everyone)

REPETITION - I love the colours and the simplicity YET strongly visually effective. Trippy effect makes me look at it for a prolonged period of time during which I keep discovering something new in the animation.
