Since Mikey just straight confirms datables were once children, I of course can’t be normal about this. So here are my headcanons for the datables in my harem fanfics childhoods.
Jerry- my love, I feel like with how attached he gets with things I wholeheartedly think he either had one or both of his parents were incredibly overbearing and definitely at least one of them had some sort of compulsive behavior when it came to cleanliness, he would definitely be a child of that beige perfectionist mother and now he’s no contact and he’s just not doing great because he never had the chance to have a healthy attachment to things and now it’s an incredibly unhealthy habit that doesn’t have to be. He just needs love and a little bit of therapy…
Mac and Penelope- They’re siblings in my fic, Penelope is 100% the burnt out parentified older sister and Mac is the unexpected youngest with a surprise disability that their parents gave their complete unwavering attention too doting on them out of support and pure ignorance but still putting all the pressure on Penelope because her poor sibling can’t do things like the other kids, it really put a strain on their relationship growing up and they very much resented each other a lot until they were older and now that they’ve grown up. It took Mac coming out and finally breaking through that mold their parents put them in that they’re now really close because Mac finally understands what Penelope went through wasn’t right and wants to make it up to her in whatever way they can. They definitely have wine nights
Dasha- Mom friend, eldest child to a large tight knit family. Surprisingly the most mentally stable of their friend group. She’s just there to vibe but she’s also there to make sure everyone drinks water and eats healthy meals at least once a week. It’s not trauma, it's just how she shows her love. Chance- Mama's boy, raised by a single mom who was hard working but always cooked a ton of food and always had her doors open for her son's nerdy and very anxiety ridden friends. She is basically their adopted mom and they all love her. Inko Midoriya vibes I can’t explain it. Chance was also a kid like looks like he’s in kindergarten but he’s two type big. His teachers used to call him a gentle giant cause he was always befriending and hanging out with the anxious or shy kids in class, him Parker and Jerry were friends growing up and were all incredibly close. He’s still close with both of them and is the one who puts the most effort to help Jerry with his attachment issues…
Dunk- daddy issuessss, boy just wants his dad to be proud of him. He just wants to be accepted, his mom loves him unconditionally regardless but still cutting off his dad was the hardest decision he has ever had to make but it was literally for his own peace of mind. But god does Father’s Day not literally burn a hole in his heart.
Parker- neglected. That Baby boy was left on his own far more than it could’ve been legal, I feel like when Chance befriended him and brought him home for the first time, Chance's mom took one look at this disheveled child and went “Chance sweetie does your friend want to sleep over?” And then he basically just never left. I like to think how people see Jerry now is how people saw Parker as kids, so Parker and him had a falling out because Parker is so traumatized from his childhood he can’t stand watching his friend living in the conditions he’s in, but I like to think all three of them were all really close at some point, they all still get invited to Chances moms house for dinners. They all still go because hell will freeze over before they hurt her feelings.
Shauna- Adult Orphan. Their father walked out on them when they were a toddler and died in her early teens unintentionally leaving their mother his life insurance which let her go to college her mom then had an accident and died suddenly when they were a sophomore. They have no other family. They were taken in by their best friend's family so much so that she started dating her best friend's older brother a little while after college…
Sophia- momma girls, her moms a girls girl, protective of her daughters and made sure they knew how someone should treat them. Sophia has two older sisters and one older brother. She's the baby. Despite being raised in a house filled with power women, her brother went down a path of bad habits and even worse influences and took it out on his partner, to say when Sophia; Shauna’s best friend found out what he’d done. Despite being her brother she wasn’t standing by him and threw him to the curb. She took care of Shauna the first few months after the breakup and held her together, until Shauna broke down and told Sophia everything and she helped Shauna build the persona of Shaun as a way to explore and rebuild their confidence after the escaping. They are still very close but Shauna has become very private about her life so people don’t know that they know each other.
Monique- first gen immigrant, her parents saved up her entire life to send her to the states so she could have a better life. She went to college and did everything she could to build a good career, then one day In college she met this tall broad shouldered blonde woman who wore all black even her makeup was black and she never had those feelings for anyone before. Her and Sophia had that kind of whirlwind romance where you just know that you found the one, they got married both in the states and in her home country. Her parents are unwavering supportive of her and she does everything to help them move to the states and be closer.
Hector- similar to Chance raised by a single mother, who doted on and cared for him. But was really busy and always working so he became a grandma's boy, he practically lived at his abuelitas house. Helped her with chores, cooking, and loved watching her telanovelas despite them potentially being a tad inappropriate sometimes for his age, she was his safe space and even when she started getting sick late into his teens years he’d help take care of her. It was always just him, his mom and her. When she died the weekend before his college graduation, he was devastated. He almost didn’t walk the stage but he did, but afterwards he became incredibly depressed and withdrawn. He wanted to be a writer but now he was too afraid to be seen in the light.
Tele- trans androgynous icon, with the most supportive and scariest ally of a momma on the block. She terrorized the PTA until her son was allowed to use the bathroom without fear. And even though he’s grown, she will be damned if anyone says anything bad about her baby boy; I feel like when he brought Jerry home she was like "C'mere here honey, let me give you something to eat.” And then gave him the equivalent of feeding a family of four while she listened to them talk about whatever, she’s supportive of her kid and whatever misfits he brings home. Her and Chance's moms are besties; they go to bookclub together , their sons are completely unaware.
H1nk- normal family, had a mom, a dad, an older brother and an annoying little sister. Just a typical run of the mill family, until he was in high school and he hit a rebellious phase. He got really into extreme sports, it took over his every thought he was so determined he’d make it big he decided that after high schooled that he and a group of his closest friends would become a team and make a name for themselves! They already had a group name since all of them had the same first name.
H2nk- super strict over achieving parents who wanted him to get into Harvard or something; Asian stereotype I know; but he was a dreamer a creative at heart and he wanted to see the world and when his best friend brought up the idea of becoming a team of daredevils after high school he was hesitant but wanting to be free to live his own life he took the dive.
H3nk- similar to Parker in a way his parents were divorced his mom was incredibly narcissistic and blamed him for everything but his dad was a good man always encouraging and supporting his dream, he was the one with the best grades in school he wanted to be a doctor and the one most reluctant to agree with becoming a daredevil, but when he got called into the counselor’s office one day receiving the news his dad had a heart attack and had passed away. He lost his spark for medicine, lost his will to live and agreed to join. He didn’t feel like he had anything left to lose…
H4nk- foster kid, idk I think it fits. He kinda fits the vibe of a kid who was neglected in the system and got adopted by these nut jobs, very much undiagnosed ADHD, get this boy some Adderall, he was always getting himself into trouble, but it was one of his crazy stunts that went viral and got their team on the radar of the biggest energy drink company in the market…
H5nk- normal Latino household, mom, emotionally distant father, senile grandparent your mother has to keep alive half the day. And burnt out eldest child who’s only job is to manage all the goddamn kids their parents keep deciding to have…guess which one he is~ Boy was tired he was the first on board to run away and become daredevils anything to get him away from the nonsense that is his family, but still boy is Latino pining is in his bones, he wishes for the day he can have a family, because he is determined to be everything his father wasn’t…
Bodhi- orphan! I’m not joking, his parents were also time capsules so they were in status during his childhood. He was raised by his grandmother who was awoken when he was born, and he loved her immensely. When he was finally of age and went into status himself it was the saddest moment of his life. He nearly crushed her but she kissed his cheek and told him to take care of himself in the next century… I’m not crying, you're crying!!!
