Listening to 500 miles by Peter, Paul and Mary
Thought of a byler scenario that made me cry
In the end, during the final battle, while Jane is fighting vecna, Will is still obviously connected, and when vecna dies, Will does to
Mike is extremely distraught with Will in his arms, refuses to let go of Will when the others are headed down to the upside-down
He frantically screams, shouting at the others to leave him, let him stay with Will
Nancy can't stand to lose Mike. That's her little brother, Nancy crouches low, hugging Mike with all of herself. She asks Holly to join in
After a few seconds, she lets go, sobbing as she does. With her head held high, her face contorted in a mess of emotions hand in hand with Holly, she rushes to get to the upside-down
Joyce, Jonathan, and Jane hug the two next, their pride and joy, the one they all fought so hard to bring home is gone
One of Joyce's babies is gone, and she can't do anything about it. She can't rely on lights to communicate with her boy when one of the only lights was him
Jonathan and Jane lost their brother, the one they shared so many bright memories with and thats all they'll have left of him
Robbin, Steve embraced them, too. Steve wouldn't be able to count how many times those kids hounded him for free ice cream when he worked at scoops
He was there when it all started, when the other kids needed someone to look after them, now he was losing two of them.
Robin didn't know either much, but the small moments she had with the two will always be cherished
Once the two had gone, Dustin and Lucas looked at the two.
How does one say goodbye.. how can you day goodbye to someone who chose you as their family.
Mike and Will would always be Mike and Will
Mike was the heart Will was the glue that held them together.
How do you say goodbye..?
The two drop to their knees, too choked up to say anything. Their party can't go on without the two who started it.
How can we go on?
"We love you guys"
Mike's tears kept flowing his grip on Will's lifeless form. It was what tethered him to reality. He was cold now, but if he held on, he could keep him warm. He knew Will hated the cold after the Mindflare
"We love you guys too.." Mike said with a heavy heart.
Lucas and Dustin knew they were running out of time, their footsteps heavy as they made their way down.
No one thought they'd lose another thst night as Jane stood at the gate.
She looked at the onslaught of the night that greeted her.
As the timer runs close to an end, two pairs of arms embrace her, tsckling her to the ground.
And as the timer reaches zero the upsidown is no more.
Mike? Will?
Jane looks at them in disbelief just as the others do.
Will stands hand in hand with Mike, he reaches for Jane's hand talking to her through a look in his eyes.
She grasps his hand, standing beside him.
In a small last-ditch effort, their combined powers dismantle the remaining memories of everything from the soldiers, Dr. Kelly, anyone else who posed a threat to them.
Jane and Will are guided to the truck just as the others are.
The trance the two had set still holding even as they drive miles away.
And only when their eyes revert back to normal do the others hound them.
Nancy can only hold onto her little brother as she sobs, Holly quickly following her big sister.
The Hopper-Byers family are quick to embrace one another.
Steve and robbin stayed by Max and Vickie, Jane speed walking up to Max, embracing her and apologizing. Even though no apology was needed, Max was just scared about losing another part of herself.
Lucas and Dustin stand in front of Will and Mike.
Mike and Will hold hands. The other two's eyes flick to their hands to their faces before all four of them are running towards eachother.
During all of this, no words were said.
Just gratitude to whatever deity graced them with mercy for once.
Utter relief that no one had to plan any funeral with an empty casket.
As time went on, things got better. Way better.
Joyce and Jim obviously got married, small wedding, yet it held the door that was already open for the three kids who finally got the family they deserved.
Jonathan and Nancy got back together after some time apart. Realizing that the only ones who could understand them better were each other. Getting married and having 1 kid that they adore to no end.
Robin and Steve still work together at a better high-end radio shack, rockin'' Robin keeps rockin'' to this day. She even gets to take Vickie to fancy restaurants once a month.
Steve's coaching baseball helps any and every kid that needs it wherever he can. Though the kid he returns to will always be Dustin, who's still an ass to deal with, but they wouldn't have it any other way.
Dustin, an innovator of all sorts, gets a job at nasa, discovering new things and improving on spacecraft and satellites. Settling down with Jane and their new dog whos a pug and practically owns the house.
Jane's a teacher, working with children, healed the darkest parts of her. Would she want them for herself? No, but getting to help other children grow is enough for her. She can't help but remember those dreadful times when she had no one, but those memories are replaced with the people who took her in like she belonged their to begin with.
Lucas and Max got to settle down in a cozy house, living out their days, watching movies every friday with one maybe two little versions of themselves running around them.
As for Mike and Will? We'll, as I've said before, Mike and Will will always be Mike and Will
"Or Will and Mike-"
"Its the same thing, but it's Mike and Will."
"Michael."
"That's my name." Mike smirks at Will as he said that.
Giggles could be heard in front of them.
Mike exasperated at the thee small children laughing at his antics.
"Doth thou offspring laugh at their parents?"
More giggling ensued at that.
And older teen standing at the hallway entrance groans. "Daaadd just finish the stoorry"
"You've heard it a million times, plus these little gremlins are making fun of me"
"Oh, no, they're not. They're angles," Will says, winking at his three youngest, more giggles could be heard.
Two twins sitting at the kitchen island gesture for the three youngest to be silent as their dad finishes the story.
"As I was saying, before I was, oh so rudely interrupted- Will, im looking at you"
"Arnt you always," Will says with a smirk of his own.
"Ughhhh, papaaa no more lovey doveyness, I need to hear an ending!!"
"Ok, ok" will puts his hands up, gesturing for Mike to finish.
Well, just as you've all just witnessed, you can gues where their story continued.
>Bonus<
Mike is listening to the radio as he's getting ready to leave for work.
"As of now, for the first time in history of the year 2004 gay marriage is now legal in Massachusetts."
Nearly dropping his papers, Mike stills.
Rushing his way home felt like a fever dream. His only goal was Will, his Will.
Will was cooking up dinner when Mike burst through the front door, beelining for him.
Grabbing Wills ring off his finger he bends down on one knee.
"Marry me."
"Mike, this is the 7th time you asked me, my answer will always be yes."
As Mike stands to kiss Will, tears in his eyes. Will asks Mike what all of that was about.
"Gay marriage is legal as of today in Massachusetts."
Will only stare at him, tears also spring to his eyes. He couldn't believe it. Chills run through his body, yet for the first time in so long, he welcoms them.
Kissing Mike once more, his hands on either side of Mike's face, wondering if today was real or not.
Mike grasps onto wills waist wondering the same.
Their current 4 year old runs up to them, tugging Mikes pant leg.
"Are Papa and Daddy marrying again?"
The two look at eachother, a silent conversation, bending down to meet their currently youngest daughter nodding their heads.
"Yea kiddo, we are, we are." Mike states.
(End)
[Authors note]
Ok.. this was a lot, like, allllooott
I wrote this as I went and on my phone, it was like 2 something now its getting close to 4 (/_;)/~~
I wanted to get this out of my head before I forgot it.
Also that last part only came to me like a couple weeks ago and im so happy I finally wrote it out.
Also, yes, byler has six kids, Will i feel would for sure want to adopt as many as he could, giving the kids a home he only got when he was reaching adult hood.
Mike also wants to have kids so he can prove that he would be the best dad he can be. He would not be mentally unaware of his kids like his father.
I just wanted one of the main characters to have six nuggets, lol
Also the last part of the story of Will and Miks finally being able to legally Mary was for pride month.
And if you're still here- Happy pride!!!!
My brains are running on fumes, if anhthing confuses you, please don't be afraid to ask in the comments, I might turn this into a fic might not idk
Oh and again for the last part of the story, Robin for sure called Will and they ranted on for like 10 whole minuits
Also 2004 in that point in time they only had about their 3rd kid (the twins are the oldest of the six)
And then the youngest three are all one year apart (3, 4, and 5 yrs old) and thats in 2017 or so
Yipeee all done happy pride again!!
