Yes, you've successfully dodged allegations of monarchism by having the heroic princess decide to abolish the monarchy and institute representative democracy in the last five minutes of the game. Bravo.
Now give us the sequel where every prospective heir in a thousand-mile radius comes out of the woodwork claiming she's not allowed to do that and her actions should simply be construed as abdication, five different people declare themselves King, the nation plunges into civil war, and the ex-princess has to ninja around murdering all of her would-be successors in order to make the transition stick.
The way that France ping-ponged between monarchy and republic for so long after the Revolution. That one time the British got rid of the monarchy and then just brought it back. This is so real.
maybe there never were any twin towers. like did u ever see them?
So I know all you kids are joking around but no, you’re not allowed to make jokes about this. No.
Can’t just leave this in the tags, @the-starboy-symbiont
All of the above, plus:
For years after 9/11 we were constantly told “NEVER FORGET” and the idea was basically “keep feeling sad and afraid and especially ANGRY forever; don’t let time dull your emotional response like it’s naturally supposed to; continue to justify the injustices by feeling this way all the time.” And the 3000 deaths were constantly pointed to as this huge deal that justified any lengths to go to.
And then Covid hit. And there were several points during the height of the pandemic (because fun fact, according to the actual definitions of a pandemic, *it’s not technically over yet!* ) where we were having a 9/11’s worth of deaths every week or so. And suddenly 3000 deaths were not a big deal at all. Instead of being enough reason to go to war far away and strip us at home of many rights too, they weren’t even enough justification to make people wear a damn piece of fabric over their face.
3000 people died once and now the government can legally wiretap anyone without a warrant, and hold people at Gitmo under suspicion of terrorism (no need for due process)… 3000 people dying every week but we should all still be going out to brunch and concerts and who cares about the disabled and immunocompromised?
Something in me broke. Make all the 9/11 jokes you want.
something white people (and nonblack people of colour) need to know is that if your friend of colour comes up to you to tell you that you were being racist in some way or another, that is an act of trust.
to elaborate: if they dont trust you to react well to criticism about your behaviour, they wont say fucking shit to you. theyll just silently absorb it until they cant take it anymore. do you know just how many microaggressions and casual acts of racism are tolerated every day by the poc around you? probably not!
your friend saying "hey that was kinda racist :/" is you being given a chance to apologize to them and do better, rather than you getting relegated to being Yet Another Source Of Pain.
if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
I hate learning about instances of "oh yeah we know how to do that, we just don't".
this is exactly why I love talking about historical passive heating and cooling techniques
oh wow the glass-tower office buildings we constructed when we thought air conditioning and central heating would never have downsides...have downsides?
and we're still building them?
while the Victorian house museum where I work, with thick walls and small windows and big wooden shutters stays ~10 degrees above (winter) or below (summer) the outside temperature for days on end with no help at all?
uh. okay then
(also public transit. the history of public transit in the US is infuriating, because we had it! and then we destroyed it!)
also speaking of jakub różalski this painting of his is my FAVOURITE like yes girl snitch on the knight!!! get his ass!!!
the one of a girl looking longingly at a naked witch flying by and the one of a babushka yelling at a devil also rule tho
Just want to make sure people are aware that the artist is on ArtStation and many of these, including the longing stare at witch one, are in fact for sale as prints for highly reasonable prices - the cheapest option being an 8 by 12 art poster for 18 US dollars (plus shipping).
HERE’S HIS WEBSITE
Not only will you get to see the hilarious names of these works but usually a short story and a detailed look at his work progress!
He also does a lot of werewolf art which I adore!
Answers the question, "What if Frazetta was Russian?"
more characters with superpowers who look into the whole superhero thing and decide "hm no i do not want to participate in this actually"
to be clear i'm not saying they turn to supervillainy. they just look at their superpower-based career options and decide to go in an unrelated direction. dental hygienist. supply chain management. HVAC technician in surprisingly high demand
some of them do superpower hobbies on the weekend, but a good portion of them are just "eh. my body could technically do it but this is not fun for me?" like it's literally just excercise. why spend your free time training for a marathon when you could be crafting
a lucky few have highly marketable powers which make for extremely well-paid gig work (standard teleporter hourly pay is insane), but it's not exactly a passion driven career. yeah speedsters can make bank working production lines but that gets repetitive real fast. also that shit is tiring. yeah the agricultural industry is paying you big bucks to control the weather during harvest season but you're going to have back spasms for months after.
One time at my manufacturing job I got asked about what superpowers I would want and I concluded that the most passion driven power/job I could imagine was just knowing the precise location of all sharks. I would be unable to control them or communicate with them. But I am invaluable to conservation work, ocean photography, zoology, lifeguards, etc. I have no idea if I could or would want to profit from this, I would probably still have a 9-5, but I like to think of spending my spare time just answering texts about Greenland sharks and doing horrifying guest appearances on weather broadcasts.
Marvel Comics actually did this story years ago, called No More Mutants. After yet another "Let's push Wanda Maximoff past the breaking point" story, she clicks her fingers and switches off 99% of super-powered mutants on the planet. In addition to the costume-wearing Usual Suspects being affected, a surprisingly high number of seemingly ordinary people lost their mojo, including an award-winning photographer who only found out after the fact that his mutant power was capturing the perfect shot. I wish they had done more with that aspect of the story, but unfortunately it got buried under the hoopla.
