Has it ever occurred to some of you guys that an outwardly racist, homophobic man with a history of domestic violence would seek out a predominantly latino/black gay bar to find victims? Yeah, the Orlando shooter frequented Pulse long before his attack and set up a grindr profile. That doesn’t automatically mean he was a self loathing closeted gay man. If anything, it just means he was carefully planning his attack and trying to lure in vulnerable gay men to abuse…..because he is an abuser……and that is exactly the kind of behavior we should expect from a violent bigot. Also, according to witness accounts, he never sought out sexual encounters with other men or tried sleeping with Pulse patrons. That right there should tell you something.

I mean, I understand that a lot of straight folks desperately want to distance themselves from this hate crime by placing the blame on gays, washing their hands clean of this massacre and moving on while muttering “Damn, the gay community is fucked up lol.” But it’s not that fucking simple. And if you’re straight and you find yourself trying to outright ignore this horrific instance of homophobia or erase the sexual identities of the victims to make it more palatable to you or blame the shooter for being a “"secretly gay muslim terrorist”“ in order to separate yourselves entirely from him, maybe it’s because you have more in common with him than you’re willing to recognize.

The silence from some of you is sickening. We see you.

Also, the media likes to construct stories when it comes to high-profile cases. The “alleged homosexual terrorist” angle is definitely a story that will sell popcorn and make straight people feel comfortable. Selling profitable stories is their agenda. Be wary. Don’t believe everything you read.

There’s a documentary on HBO called Hunted that shows how violent vigilantes in Russia use these same tactics (pretending to be gay on social media/gay hookup sites) to hunt down gay men in order to lure them to private places and subsequently brutalize them and film and distribute footage of the violence as a warning to other gay people that their behavior won’t be tolerated.

So that was my first thought when I saw the media reporting that he was possibly a self-hating closeted gay man himself. Personally I don’t buy it (maybe because I don’t want to and maybe because the evidence isn’t convincing). It’s not unusual for perpetrators to familiarize themselves with their intended victims during the planning of an attack. That’s common sense actually.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, dude, but as a general rule, women don’t pretend to virulently hate men they’re secretly in love with as some sort of elaborate courtship ritual. That’s a trope we made up to justify why the male protagonist always gets the girl in the end even when it’s starkly at odds with prior characterisation. In real life, if she acts like she thinks you’re a creep, it’s because she thinks you’re a creep!

I am sick of the girl being pretty once her glasses come off. I’m sick of the boy suddenly staring at her because she’s taken her hair out of a bun. I’m sick of that dances that she said she didn’t want to attend suddenly being the place where she shows up and learns to live.    I want a movie where she gets kissed because her lab goggles left circles around her eye sockets. Where she doesn’t go to the dance and isn’t ashamed of it. Where she wins the science fair and the way the blue ribbon looks on her makes somebody’s knees weak.   I want a movie where the girl doesn’t get tamed. Where she’s still a badass bitch at the end of it. Where she doesn’t need a man because she has a killer girlfriend who is a cute nerdy radio technician. Where her freckles don’t get concealed on the big night. Where she shows up to prom in a suit and a model on her arm.   I want a movie where the queen bee is also a 4.0 student. Where she wears makeup and styles her hair and gets her work done. Where the pretty girl is also pure of heart, works on the weekends at soup kitchens, shows up with heels on. Where the queen bee lets the new girl have the boy because she doesn’t see the point in trying to compete. Where they end up friends at the end and the boy ends up with nothing.    I want a movie where girls are art without having to be painted over. Where we are beautiful without reason, where we don’t need to prove ourselves as being worth a boy’s affections. I want a movie where we don’t have to be secretly fuckable in order to get a happy ending.

Comic Shoes Masterpost

Hello guys!  I’ve been making custom, OOAK comic shoes for a couple months now - mostly for my friends and my favorite celebrities!  The shoes I gave to Gillian Anderson:
