I'm Kano Barlowe, fantasy indie author with a fascination with monsters and mythic storytelling. I'm pretty bad at being social and appearing active on tumblr but boy do I try my best. I love all sorts of writing and providing help, tips, and feedback for others.

My current project, a mythic gay fantasy-romance which takes place in a desert land. All the water in existence floats in a celestial sea high in the sky. In the oases that dot the land, where gravity fluctuates and allows water to bring life, people of metal wage love and war for resources, land, and dominion.

The story follows Quill of Kasraei, an Argentum Seer who makes a living as a thief and occasional assassin, infiltrating the Imperial palace on a mission to find the Emperor's own Seer concubine. Disguised as a gift to the Emperor and married off to his closest friend and advisor, Quill uses the palace life as his way in as he hunts for the woman who can give him the information he seeks: the time and location of the next starfall, a rare event in which one person can receive one impossible wish if they are lucky enough to find it.

As he gets closer and closer to the woman he seeks, however, Quill finds himself increasingly entangled with the guard set to attend and watch him, a Titan named Rahim whose peculiar nature and gentle touch send Quill spiraling into a scandalous love affair that may jeopardize his mission.

Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!

Finally making progress again in my project. Quill got some quality time with the Argenta, which he doesn't get very often. It's fun to explore that conflict in him, of being in his culture again after being torn away from it, but it's also kind of hollow inside him because it's not HIS clan, it's not HIS people, they're gone and can never come back. He really battles that feeling of emptiness and wanting to belong

Exploring mythology again and learning about Persian legends (reading the Shahnameh) is helping inspire me. I'll proooobably finally write again tomorrow, I want to convert an entity in an early chapter to be reminiscent of Simurgh. Then need to think of how a Minotaur would convert into the world and what it would be called for the Greco-Roman mythological side of spirits.
