“Mom! Are you home?!”
His voice reverberated through the empty house. No answer. He made sure to search the rooms for her to see if maybe she was too busy to answer, but she was nowhere to be found. The corners of his lips upturned as he brought his fist into himself as a victory gesture.
It looked like he really did have the house to himself for the weekend, very unusual for his overprotective mother. Though, he wasn’t complaining. He made his way back to the front door, opening it without his usual dejected expression.
“She’s gone. Make yourself at home --just don’t break anything and no smoking inside. I’ll set up the table.”
The boy cleared off the small glass coffee table set up in front of the TV, producing both a credit card and a rolled up bill. Although he’d been hiding his eagerness all day, he couldn’t hold it back any longer. Hungry eyes waited in anticipation for Smile to produce the bag he’d been bragging about since school had started.
“What are you waiting for, Smile? If you’re hungry we can eat after! I’ve been waiting all day!”
