what was your first tarot deck? mine was the tarot of marseilles! v confusing to start reading (far from beginner friendly)

Mine was the Faery Wicca Tarot, which was (coincidentally) given to me as a gift from a good friend. It's a beautiful deck and I still love the artwork, but it is...well, there are many bits of the accompanying info book that make my practical/historian side twitch.

These days I tend to use the Golden Tarot with the Visconte-Sforza artwork. It's VERY opinionated but also very reliable. I also love the Everyday Witch Tarot and matching oracle deck. And I do still use the info book for every reading I do because divination isn't my strong suit and even after 20 years, I can't keep all the card meanings straight in my head. 😅

My first deck was the Deviant Moon Tarot, which was pretty friendly as far as firsts go. Very much on the macabre, matter-of-fact end of things. I almost immediately lost the box and guide book, so I learned all of the cards in a very roundabout, calls-em-like-I-sees-em way. The deck is good for beginners; my method, not so much (lmao).

Ayyyy! Mine was also the Deviant Moon Tarot!! I had the same experience as far as deck personality. I had dedicated it to a deity I no longer work with, though, so I have since retired it.

My first deck was Connolly Tarot, gifted to me by one of my sisters. It was a pretty decent beginner deck, but I outgrew it super quickly and learned that I don't enjoy decks that are basically just RWS reskins.

I ended up passing it on to someone else who was interested in getting into tarot.

I'll plug this more when it's closer to December, but inspired by the fact that I get more motivated to do things if I have a challenge/event for them, I've decided to simply invent ones for myself. If I get other participants, great! If not, hopefully this is sufficient to trick my brain into treating this like a real event.

The goal in deckcember is to create 12 custom cards, whether those are tarot, oracle, playing cards, or for tabletop games. (I will be doing tarot)
