me at a 15 year old show: azula redemption arc when
Do you think any of the members of the gaang have hot takes on food?
when katara informs zuko that she simply cannot stand spicy food, zuko is like “you know, azula hates spicy food too. but she’d always eat the spiciest thing on the table anyway, just to prove a point.” and katara’s like “wow your sister’s dumb as hell” and zuko’s like “lol.......yeah.”
toph maintains that “rich people food tastes worse” and the best meal she ever had was a bunch of leftover dim sum she found in the garbage
aang’s really intent on repopularizing lychees after the war. he just thinks everyone should be eating more lychees, always
sokka’s “hot take” on food is that he has a teenage boy metabolism and if he does not shovel as much sustenance of any kind into his mouth hole as frequently as possible, he will get very cranky. fine...........crankier.
suki always carries fruits on her that are easy to peel and eat on the go, and whenever one of her warriors/friends/cranky boyfriend seems tired she immediately procures a snack, as if materialized out of thin air, at exactly the right time. it’s one of her superpowers
zuko will only drink tea if it’s been made by someone he loves. otherwise, he’s just drinking hot water with loose garbage in it, and what’s the point in that??

bonus motion study:
If you wanna draw Water Tribe characters to look more like people from the North American tundra:
We tend to have thick, coarse hair.
The most common eye shape i've noticed with us has the lower eyelid curve much more gradually than the upper eyelid. Inner corners of the eye are often a bit lower than the outer corners and epicanthic folds are usually noticeable.
Downturned and aquiline noses are more common than you'd think. Yes, even with women. Can be rounded or pointed.
I don't know how common this is overall but i've noticed in my family the upper lip tends to be pretty thin with a prominent cupid's bow or rosebud shape, while the lower lip varies but tends to be thicker.
Toss a bit of black and white (or at least dark and light) checkered trim on the fur clothes. Fabric clothes may be trimmed with jacquard or silk ribbon, or rick-rack if you feel it doesn't look too modern.
Broad hips (yes, even for men) and shoulders (yes, even for women) are the norm. Expect a fair bit of muscle mass on the legs.
Thicker ruffs (keeps the wind and cold out) and fur trim on the gloves (keeps snow out and may be waterproof depending on the type of fur).
Babies were carried on their moms' backs underneath the clothes. There tended to be some kind of belt.
Being a bit on the chubbier side was traditionally considered attractive.
In case any of you were worried about accidental whitewashing (that tends to be the default for how to draw tutorials so I don't really blame people for thinking they're rules for drawing humans in general). I saw a post going around about not erasing Indigenous features, and it's true that we shouldn't, but not many people know what those features (and some little cultural things I thought could add to it) are because they didn't grow up with us. Of course, anyone else Inupiat, Inuit, or Yup'ik can feel free to add on or specify.
i recently found this "guide to human types" that includes sections about the inuit people as well as other indigenous people and i thought it could be relevant to this post
it seems like good resource for artists if it's accurate but as i'm not indigenous myself, i cannot say whether it is accurate or not. i would greatly appreciate if you or someone else shared their thoughts about it (only if you/they want to of course, i understand how valuable of a resource time and energy is)
This is a good jumping off point. If you want more inspiration, consider googling "lomen brothers inupiaq"
The Lomen Brothers opened a photography studio in Nome, so a lot of their subjects were the Inupiat living there, and others who'd travel (my family the King Islanders, for example, who went to Nome to restock and lived on King Island the rest of the year, before everyone got kicked off and settled on Nome for good).
Here are some of my favorite Lomen Brothers photos:
Her parka has checkered trim, as I mentioned earlier
Note that this gentleman has piercings under his lip for his laberets. This is also an example of the face and hands being much darker due to more prolonged sun exposure
There's so much personality in her expression, I wonder what she's thinking about
This guy is from King Island and he kind of looks like one of my uncles. The top of his head seems to be shaved as was the common style, and if you ask me that fur headband is quite stylish.
There are more photos like this, and while quick pointers can be incredibly helpful, it's always best to have references of your inspirations, especially when they're people.

o my god this reached 1000 notes thank y’all so much 🥺🤍 this is the first art i ever posted on here so this means a lot thank you 🤍🤍🤍
I’ve been wanting to do a fanart of this scene from Avatar FOREVER. Zuko’s redemption arch was amazing, and I saw a lot of myself in him with his struggles for familial love. Anger used to be a huge part of my art in my teenage years, and the show perfectly conveyed the feeling of letting go of that hate.
