After 4 years of trying to be part of the general online artist community, I’ve found it to be more of a headache than it’s worth and not good for my anxiety/depression issues. At this point, I’m opting to create things based on what I enjoy at the moment and contemplating getting into game development to realize my ideas.

Irma Rutherford & Alloy Orville (Caelum City Blues; 2020) Clip Studio Paint + Photoshop CC

It was about 5 years ago this month -I don’t remember the exact day, since I nuked my original Tumblr blog out of orbit not long after- I came up with a few doodles of random characters at work, one a satyress/fauness and a scraggly jackrabbit. Everything fell into place not long after, and Irma and Alloy were born (or reborn, in Irma’s case).

It’s hard to really put into words how much drawing these characters -and related ones, like Marianne Celestian or the Neri Siblings- mean to me and how much it changed me as an artist. For once, I felt genuinely happy and not chasing some algorithim or arbitrary number of likes... I was drawing things that I loved and meant a lot to me.

Sadly, I haven’t been able to realize their story -their world- like I’ve wanted to. There’s been... issues here and there, but all things in time. I think I’m finally getting there, maybe.

In any case, to those who’ve been around since their inception, thank you for putting up with them and me. I don’t ever plan to stop any time soon, but I need to get back to them and remind myself why I love drawing in the first place.

A parody of the 'Pretty Woman' movie poster with Baro Ki'Teer and Darvo because... why not? Movie poster parodies are kind of a sign you have little to no originality, but I thought this was funny. (I’m showing how decrepit I am here, but I was 3 years old when this movie was released)

Also, I love drawing these two, tbbh. Half because I legit like them as characters (I liked Baro before in a love/hate way, but he really grew on me after ‘Sands of Inaros’), half because I ship ‘em, lmao. Sure, I could draw other Warframes, Cephalons, NPCs that aren’t Corpus-related, etc... but I don’t feel like it r/n, lmao.

Haven’t forgotten about the wacky world of Caelum City, for sure. Here’s the second in the series; Anan’Zhu. 

In hindsight, I probably should have decreased the bright light coming from the soda machine on Zhuzhu... if/when I ever do an artbook with the Caelumverse stuff again, I will likely fix this. 

Anyhow, the rest of the main cast are to come: Irma and Alloy are next (as April marks 5 years since I first came up with CCB); Drazen-47X or Song Hyung-joon some time after that.

A doodle of my Wisp, because eh. She’s my favorite Frame and while all my other Fashionframes are pretty fancy, I think Wisp is one I like the most b/c of her simplicity.

I really wanna know why Darvo doesn’t think the Tenno are ‘Betrayers’. He probably has a very good reason, considering it’s one of the (many) things he clashes with his father over and possibly one factor in why he broke from the Corpus.

Makes me wonder if perhaps he was saved by a Tenno prior to the game taking place or something. 

Anyhow, that’s my Oberon. I also did another color variation (which is more in line with what I’m most comfortable with in my art), but tbh I’m not sure which one I like better. Either way, it was a dumb doodle I took too far, so ehhhh... sorry.

I’d seen some artists on Twitter do their takes on Corpus characters without their trademark hats, so I figured... why not? 

Nef is one of those characters that I love to hate for a variety of reasons. :T Unpopular opinion, but I like him a bit more than Alad V, tbbh. Sorry.

Feona Pinnata (Caelum City Blues; 2020) Photoshop CC

Seeing as 2020 marks 5 years since I first came up with the ‘Caelum City Blues’ concept, I figured now was a good time to do new/updated character illustrations of the principal cast with their most current designs. Which is weird, because they change outfits very frequently, but I digress.

Feona came first this go-round, because any excuse for me to draw Feona being fabulous is a good excuse. I admit, I struggled with a way to properly utilize her, but with me (slowly... slowly...) working on the first major story, I managed to find a good use for her. 

As for how she connects with Irma and Alloy, well... Alloy is her former bodyguard (who is on his last day before retiring when the story I’m working on takes place), and even after he leaves to start up his investigation business with Irma, Feona still keeps in contact with him as a friend thereafter, and as an occasional contact/information source.

Anyhow, she’s a fun character to work with. I drew inspiration for her from the glam 80′s, and a few other things here and there. Doriades (her race) are based off of nudibranchs, so they technically are a wholly androgynous/non-binary race... though Feona is femme identifying and uses feminine pronouns (which do not exist in doriade culture) for reasons that tie into her backstory.

I would really love to see more interaction between Darvo and Baro, but alas, it will likely never happen.

‘Myths of Meteora’ characters (Myths of Meteora; 2020) Procreate + Photoshop CC

Basically, ‘Myths of Meteora’ is going to be a series of done-in-ones that retell various myths, folklore, fairy tales, and/or fables from around the world: the Greek myths, famous and interesting as they are, tend to dominate, so I want to try a difference approach using framework that is otherwise ignored or overlooked (without being blatantly appropriative, of course). 

This also means that the characters seen here (and maybe in a future follow-up line-up) don’t necessarily interact with each other. In past iterations of the fantasy concept of mine, they did, but this time... not so much, due to the set up of the concept as it is now. 

These characters, barring Liem, are my oldest OCs to date; older than even Irma Rutherford. Mariah, Minerva, and Windy are also the purely original characters with no fandom basis whatsoever. Jericho and Liem both have fan character origins, but have long since have had the serial numbers filed off. 

I also wanted to do the concept without humans, because I’m tired of humans, lmao. Werehumans are my only caveat to this. XP

Darvo Bek (Warframe; 2020) Photoshop CC

With all the QOL updates since I last played it on XB1 years ago, I’m really enjoying Warframe on Switch (so I guess you could say I’m a Nintenno, lmao) lately. It’s a good stop-gap until Animal Crossing consumes my life at the end of March, lmao.

Anyway, Darvo has quickly become my favorite NPC and my favorite character from the game. I kind of have a soft spot for characters like him, tbh. Sadly, I have not gotten to do the Clem side quest yet (I’ve only barely started ‘Stolen Dreams’, which should give you an idea of where I’m at; and yes, I know what happens later on) but I’m looking forward to it. 

Also, I admit I kinda fumbled how he looks in my style. To be fair... he is 105, and given Corpus apparently age like the Asari in ‘Mass Effect’, Darvo looking young-ish isn’t too far off base...? lmao. I will do better next time!

I’m not 100% sold on my original stuff done in this particular visual style, but eh, is what it is. Worth trying something new, I suppose. 

Anyhow, last drawing of 2019, everyone. Here’s hoping 2020 yields better results/output, whatever that may end up being. 

Theoretically, Drazen should be in his AI Construct form, which is the only way he can see the Familiar (who is also an AI construct and based off of a silver fox) and I did try that (where the upper half of his body is digital and lower half of his body is physical), but it... didn’t quite work how I wanted it to.
