I made a Landline bookcover! :D
Hi! I was able to make this at around 2am. I don't know why but The Grand Budapest Hotel has always been the subject for my lettering practices. Nothing much to update. Give me quotes to practice on. :(
Trying to get myself into that Christmas feel.
Merry Christmas in advance everyone!
Coldplay Tribute: 4/??
AFTER 134213421095821093420 DECADES OF NOT UPDATING. <3
I LOVE YOU RISA RODIL AND IM TOO SHY OMG
For Janna Catbagan, HIHIHIHIHIHI
Update: Every Teardrop is a Waterfall!
Well I’ve been gone for a while. Is this another I’m not dead yet post? I’m not really sure.
I made this one for my cute university classmates (blockmate). This was definitely one of the songs I recognized from Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto. It’s different from the usual Coldplay songs that I listen to. I find this one upbeat and colorful - the video itself is not an exception, I mean that has to be one of the most beautiful Coldplay videos I’ve ever watched (Atlas was my favorite, lyric video but still a Coldplay video). The song is so refreshing that it is now, one of the members of my YOLO playlist. HA!
Anyway, shout out to Janna Catbagan. LOL <3
AAAAAAAND TO RISA RODIL (I’m too shy to tag her let alone link it, haha) who is the inspiration for this lettering work.
SUCH AN UGLY SKETCH I CAN’T :(
Update! Is this another I'm not dead yet post?
I've been practicing lettering traditionally (and calligraphy) for the past few weeks. I didn't have enough time to render works digitally (not to mention that ever-long pending Coldplay series). I REALLY WANT TO UPDATE IT. I'll do it when I'm free which is probably around late November to December or if I'm lucky next week! Just kidding, I don't want to keep my hopes up too high or I may not be able to reach it. Let's keep things realistic. For now.
That one on the lower right might be a TFiOS quote. I'm not sure. I did it on my sister's request.
I'm also practicing calligraphy. As of now, my nibs kept on blotting on me. I must be doing something wrong.
We had an animation assignment where we did a cut-out animation for Go Outside by cults. I'll post it later on after we submitted it to our professor. Of course, with permissions from my groupmates.
I haven't updated in a while and I'm clamoring for retweets and favorites in twitter for a class. I'm sorry. Uni is too weird lately or maybe just that class. I'm trying though. I've been making schoolwork non-stop. Huhu.
Like someone's going to read this. I just really need to get this blog going.
Any tips for drawing? Also, what songs are you doing next? You've gotta do A rush soon
Hi!! Sorry for the late reply! I just got back from school.
Tips for drawing?
Steady hands. One of my professors in uni said that in order to keep your hands steady, you shouldn't wash it after drawing. Washing your hands immediately will cause it to shiver.
Make your sketch lines light or just be light. Decrease the pressure on your hands and just draw naturally. Hard pressure results to harsh pencil lines creating creases all over the paper. However, don't draw too lightly that you can't see it!
Choose your pencils! If you noticed there are several scales when it comes to pencil, not including Monggol.
H pencils have hard leads and light tones. The higher the number the lighter the tone. Some artists use this for their early sketch to avoid pencil marks.
B pencils have soft leads and dark tones. The higher the number the darker the tone. I use 4B to 6B for shading works while HB to 2B for sketching. (That's just my preference, of course. Artists have different preferences, who knows maybe yours are different from mine! :D)
Also, PRACTICE! Many people have said this before and trust me, this is all truth. Everyone started an amateur but with great practice you'll be able to develop your skills even further and create amazing art! I should rephrase this quote - practice makes perfect - most would just probably say - nobody's perfect so why practice? Well, passion alone can't make you any better, so let's rephrase it to "Practice makes better results."
As for the second question, I'm currently rambling between Clocks and The Scientist. I mean The Scientist has been my go-to song for like forever, it was my favorite (Yes, was - because O came and daaang!!!) buuuut I have this colorful feeling when I listen to Clocks. So yeah, I'm still thinking.
I still have sad news though. Uni is starting and projects and assignments are flooding my schedule so I'm not that quite sure if I would be able to post it as soon as I want. :(
Thanks for the questions though! I hope this helped! :D
Where art thou files? :(
I deleted my school files by accident and now I can't restore it. :''((
Coldplay Tribute: 3/??
As promised O!!
Deleted something without noticing and now I can't remember what it was.. :(
Update: O!
Just to update on what I’m currently planning to do. The first week of uni isn’t as tight as the following weeks so I think I can manage creating another Coldplay tribute yay! BUUUT I think this one will receive a major touch up. (HOW YOU PART)
I usually just make fan art lettering works of Coldplay songs in no sequence whatsoever. These songs are not chosen by random though. It depends on feels. Haha.
O is next. O, for me, is unlike any other Coldplay song that I’ve heard before. It has this whimsical appeal to it that attracts me especially the piano at the start. I can feel a comforting sadness (is that even a feeling?) through it (letting go maybe?). Heartbreaking but soothing. Other than that I think this song also reflects about how love is like a free bird. You can’t hold a person away from his or her freedom, and choices no matter how much you want him or her to stay - one of the many definitions of love.
This song is definitely one of my Coldplay favorites. The morals, the lyrics and the composing, everything was perfect.
how do you digitally touch up your art? do you scan it and then use a digital paintbrush to go over the letters?
Hi anon! I use Adobe Illustrator to touch up my art.
Let’s say in my first Coldplay tribute poster, Yellow, I made it directly from illustrator using two artboards. First artboard for sketching or drafting and the other one for final art.
"Look" and "stars" are made using the pen tool. Then the rest are brush tool.
My second tribute poster, Hurts like Heaven, was scanned then digitally manipulated.
"Weapon" and "Hurts" are made using the pen tool while the rest are brush tool.
Hope this helps! :)
Coldplay Tribute: 2/??
Yay! Another Coldplay tribute!
Those pink stuff beside “Hurts” are supposed to be blood.. or they can be anything you want them to be!
Maybe I should do a Coldplay series?
Just to update this blog with something..
I'm not dead yet!
*insert Stayin' Alive song here*
I haven't posted anything in this blog for a month(?) as I've gone under a sickness where I start doing something but end up procrastinating and altogether not finishing it. My desktop is filled with unfinished attempts that will probably accumulate dust in, well, a couple of years.
Anyway, I'll be back in university soon so I might not be able to update this blog constantly. I'll try my best posting works. I'm currently studying hand lettering, and I've tried rendering some digitally however since I know for sure that I'll be lacking time making those, I'll probably post handmade or traditionally made lettering practices as to what I'm doing now.
However, that one is Coldplay and I love Coldplay so I will render that digitally. Heehee.
I'm also trying to update the blog's theme and it's under construction so bear with meee!!
It's hard to imagine someone reading this but...
I'm off to Singapore and I won't be on in a few days and huhuhuhuhu..
Goodbye.. for like I don't know... a week?
The feels of this quote!! This literally made me tear up in the cinema. GOD BLESS ANGELINA!
This poster is inspired by the great Steve Simpson namely the Cat and the Whale. <3
I probably won't be back in a couple of days, so I wanted to leave this off while I still can.
