Schools: don’t teach those skills anymore

Stuff: is made to not be repairable

Tools & Materials: are priced as a luxury

Working Hours: have expanded to take up a lot of people’s whole day and weekends

Wages: have stagnated so that everyone has to work full time

“News” media: Your dad is better at DIY than you, ya dick!

Also if these boomer dads had taken time to fucking interact with their children, they’d have more of these “basic life skills” the media is constantly going on about.

My father falls on the cusp of boomer/gen X and I fall on the cusp of gen X/ millennials, and he always included me when doing shit around the house. Whether it was cooking, cleaning, repair work, DIY, or working on the car or motorcycle. I was (and still am when necessary) his helper monkey. I am still occasionally floored by my friends who don’t know how to carve a large roast bird or install a ceiling fan or whatever. Not in a mocking way, but in a “why didn’t your parents ever show you this?!” sort of way. So I teach them what I can, when I can.

So these mocking goddamn boomers:

We can’t fix shit? It’s your fault. We don’t know how to invest or “aren’t smart with our money”? It’s your fault. We’re in huge amounts of debt and can’t hold down jobs? It’s your fault.

Fuck right off.
