Hello hello! It has been a hot minute since I updated my little introductory post, so I thought that I'd do that now to put it as more up-to-date. I still like the idea of having one. The other one was just . . . old.

So anyway, hello everyone! I am kaythejay, but you can just call me Kay. I am a young adult learning how to do the life thing now that my "Baby Adult" time is slowly coming to an end and it is coming up on "Adult Adult" time.

About me:

• I am currently a college student at a small school that I won't name. I spent my first 2.5 years here studying to be a music teacher, but have since decided on becoming an elementary special education teacher. My major is elementary education and I will have minors in music and as an "instructional strategist" which is just fancy talk for special education.

• I am a lesbian who has been known to "adopt" young queers for one reason or another. Queer history is one of my special interests, so I have *a lot* of resources on some of the bigger things that I've found so far.

• Very big advocate of mental health recovery. I know how hard it can be, but trust me, it can and will get better.

• Every single fun fact I have in my pocket revolves around being a musician because that was my only personality trait from the time that I was 16, so now I'm having to completely rebuild something of a personality that is not "I do music."

About the blog:

• This is my random "catch all" blog. If it is not Good Omens or a personal post, you will probably find it here. This is also my "main" so it is the one that I follow from.

• Speaking on being a former music major, you will likely see a lot of random music posts mixed in here. Music posts that won't make sense unless you're a musician.

Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'

She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.

Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?

Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.

I see so many arguments over what is and isn't "good queer representation" that really just boil down to "y'all are actually arguing over matters of taste and genre preference, which is incredibly subjective and personal."

Worldbuilding where being queer is normalized and queerphobia has no impact on the plot? THAT'S FINE. Worldbuilding that includes queerphobia and tackles the effects of it as part of the story? THAT'S ALSO FINE.

Low-stakes queer romcom where the characters are fluffy and cute? THAT'S COOL. Messy queer drama with toxic people who fuck each other over and clash repeatedly? THAT'S ALSO COOL.

Stories that center the characters' queerness, show a trans character's transition, and are about the queerness as much as the rest of the plot? AWESOME. Stories where the characters' queerness isn't treated as a big deal, and have trans characters whose transition happened before the story entirely? ALSO AWESOME.

You may PREFER one thing or another, but it is actually good to have all these things. It's about variety. It's about queer characters being allowed to exist without censorship. It's about queer artists getting to make things without being told we're a "niche issue" or "adult content." It's about having as many goddamn cakes as the bakery can produce.

At the end of the day, I'd prefer a media landscape with fifty pieces of problematic queer representation over a media landscape with one single piece of queer representation that's trying (and usually failing) to be 100% perfect for everything and everyone.
