@kchan323
This is why I love the toku/MMPR fandom.
what really pisses me off about fantasy is it’s always written by Tolkien fanboys who think it has to be medieval I want to see wizards in space
Pssssst, Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series is projected to run all the way from the first trilogy (early 1700s tech level or thereabouts) through the Mistborn Adventure series (1910s tech level), the second trilogy will be modern tech, and the last trilogy will be space age. Also his worlds look very little like the “standard” fantasy settings.
There are also a lot of other fantasy authors writing really interesting worlds based on varying tech levels with cool, unusual visions.
Please don’t judge the entire literary genre on George RR Martin and the like. :-)
I couldn’t agree more! Of course I’m going to plug Mistborn here, because it’s fantastic, but if you’re looking for fantasy that isn’t medieval, you could also try Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s basically set in the Regency era, if the Regency era had magic.
Mistborn is amazing, of course, but even a small change can make a difference; ever wondered what a medieval high-fantasy world would look like if the Romans were in charge? Read Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera and be struck down by its awesomeness.
What about if the Napoleonic War were fought with an air force? But instead of an air force with planes, it's an air force with dragons? If this sounds like your kind of thing, Naomi Novik's Temeraire series might be just what you're looking for! The first volume is called His Majesty's Dragon and I highly recommend it to everybody. Except people who don't like dragons, I guess.

DISNEY LOVE
I love that at first she thinks it’s misogynistic, and isn’t afraid to call him on it, but then we see him do what we almost never see a male superhero do : He admits he’s scared. He’s not trying to belittle her, he’s not trying to tell her or even the kids that they’re not strong, He’s trying to protect what he loves most because he’s terrified of losing them. The big, giant robot ripping apart BUILDINGS doesn’t scare him at all compared to losing what he loves. I love this movie for so many reasons, but this scene is one of the bigger ones. A hero movie where the males are allowed to be emotional without appearing weak? A hero movie where females are allowed to be strong without being callous or woefully 2D? A hero movie where children are allowed to explore their potential instead of being shitty sidekicks? YES PLEASE.

Day 8 - Discomfort
Shit. My teeth are aching. Best friend just told me beauty is pain. Let me just add that beauty is pain, patience and luck. I’m reading a bunch of Invisalign journals and people who are pretty deep into the process right now and everyone seems to be comfortable with them… but me! Like I really don’t know what to do… I’m only on Day 3 of my first tray but honestly… I feel like giving up now. This is my first time even going through any type of real treatment to fix something about me… so everything’s really new. I’m not saying I regret actually taking action to fix this but I feel like I shouldn’t of focused so much on my flaws, especially those inside my mouth that rarely anyone but my dentist and I ever see. But my mom paid everything and she’s going through it with me (by the way she says she really likes them) so I guess it’s a little better. And boy was it a price to pay after losing my camera and our memories. Really thankful for even having a Mom that would go through with this with me too. <3
So anyone who has Invisalign and would give some advice to a beginner? Any good ways to lessen the pain and soreness? I’m all ears!!!
The first tray is definitely the worst. I'm on week 5 of my own treatment now, and by this point when I switch trays I only have a few days of soreness, but with the first tray it took about a week before I was completely comfortable with them. That said, here's some advice and I hope it helps! :)
When switching trays, or starting out for the first time, take ibuprofen or tylenol regularly. Try to time it so that you're not taking it on an empty stomach, but it'll still be in your system the next time you take your trays out to eat.
Taking the trays in and out can and will get better. It took me about 5 minutes to get them out my first couple of weeks; now I can do it in seconds without even looking. People who have contacts will know what I mean: it just takes practice. Just take it easy. You'll get better at it with time.
Drink tons of water, especially right before and right after switching to a new set of trays. For some reason, a lot of people get thirsty as hell on invisalign. At least staying hydrated is good for you! ;)
The soreness will go away. The first set of trays are always the worst. The longer you go on the treatment, the easier it gets.
Communicate with your dentist! Sometimes, discomfort - such as pressure along your gumline - can be a sign of improperly fitted trays. Your dentist and his/her staff can help by filing down the offending part of the tray. They'll also be able to answer any other concerns you may have, and give you advice for a successful and comfortable treatment.
Make sure you clean your trays well enough! Rinsing them out with water is fine, but water can and does go stale, which will make even the cleanest trays smell nasty. Every morning I take my toothbrush - with no toothpaste on it - and brush my trays under running water, inside and out. It keeps them smelling and looking fresh and clean!
Be patient! :) Let yourself vent and grumble and complain about the soreness if helps you feel better, but know that you're doing something good for yourself. By the time you're a few trays in, you'll start to see a visible difference and it'll be awesome! :)
So there you have it, a few tips from a fellow Invisalign newb. Remember: you can do it!
so i decided that i want my teeth straight again and white
so i put in my Invisalign for the first time in 2 years which i only wore for a week when i got it,
lets just say i am in so much pain rn
and i am fully convinced my worst nightmare is gonna come true bc of this
The first tray is by far the worst. Drink lots of water, take ibuprofen or tylenol regularly, and try to be patient. Within a couple days you should start feeling less and less sore until you're not sore anymore at all. New trays are always a little uncomfortable but they're not as bad as that first one. So once you get through this part, the worst will be over!
You can do it! :)
Realization
So I was browsing the web as I usually do around this time of day, putting off eating lunch and trying to get over my usual 12-2pm grogginess, when I happened upon a sort of fanfic that looked interesting. So I started reading it.
It was fun and enjoyable and basically everything I had wanted going into it, but I noticed something right off the bat: every single romantic pairing was same-gender. Now, don't get me wrong here. I like all sorts of pairings: het, same-gender, cis or trans*, or anything else you can think of, but I will admit that a part of me wondered, "Wait a minute. Why isn't there a single het pairing in this? We exist too, you know!" That's when it hit me.
This must be what LGBTQ people feel like all the freaking time.
Now, for me, one fic is not a big deal. But how would it be to watch movies, read books, explore fanworks, when the vast majority don't have a single character I can relate to in that way? Oh, I can still relate to them in other ways: personal, academic, family, whatever. But for some reason, that part stuck out at me even still. So then I began to wonder. How would it feel to be systematically excluded? Whether it's via prejudice or ignorance, it doesn't matter. The answer is, it would freaking suck.
Now, in my own writing, I tend to stick with what I know: cisgender, heteroromantic stuff. I've been afraid to explore writing characters of other orientations and identities simply because I don't want to disrespect anyone by getting them wrong. But now more than ever, I realize that this is something I'm going to have to get over if I'm going to be a successful writer. I need to suck it up, practice, and seek constructive feedback so I can include characters of all identities, orientations, and lifestyles in my works - and do it right.
I've long been a supporter of stronger representation of LGBTQ people in the media. But now I realize that waiting for other people to do it isn't going to be enough. And if I ever get to a place where what I write actually matters to people, you can bet that I'm going to do my damnedest to ensure equal representation in my books. It's something that was important to me before, but now it's vital.
To any other cis, straight creators out there, if you don't understand why it's important to write diversity into your craft, do what I did. Find a work that doesn't include anyone like you, and see how it makes you feel. Oh, you might very well enjoy the heck out of it otherwise, but you'll feel something off. Something unsettling and uncomfortable. Maybe it will feel like, according to that work's creator, people like you don't matter. That according to them, maybe you don't even exist. That feeling is what we've been giving to our LGBTQ readers.
And for any part I may have played in that, I am truly sorry.

Kamen Rider Casts a Spell of Acceptance
via Orends:Range
Famous comedian and dance choreographer Kaba-chan of the comedy troupe Onee-MANS will join the cast of Kamen Rider Wizard as the owner of one of the hang out spots in the show!
He’s the owner of a doughnut shop called “Do~Natsu ya Hungry” in which Haruto frequently hangs out. In early comments it’s mentioned that his hair style should remind people of Kamen Rider Fourze.
Kaba-chan is known for being one of the first openly gay actors of the 90s to make it big within Japan and as someone who has striven to broaden acceptance.
Kamen Rider is going to be the first live action superhero franchise in history to include a transgendered character.
BLESS.
Okay I know this is old news by now but I was thinking about Kamen Rider and it struck me again just how awesome Kaba-chan and his character are and I felt the need to remind everyone of this fact.
