I don't think it's unreasonable for our public officials to be expected to prove they're alive and not in a coma to be able to retain their office.
If someone were, as a random example, say hospitalized for over two weeks with no explanation, I think that should automatically trigger a special election to replace them.
If you're still able to do your job, then prove it. And if you're not, then you're actively obstructing democracy by not stepping down.
Which is to say, that if a public official were to pass away or into a coma, and their handlers choose to obfuscate that fact, this should be seen as intentionally obstructing democracy.
And there should be, you know, consequences for the people who would do such a thing.
you learn something new everyday. unless you're a historian. then you learn something old
i'm still a leftist but in my experience women are viewed as expendable in leftist spaces, spoken over, treated as stupid, on a level that is astounding. you can get away with an enormous level of vitriolic hatred for women if you couch it in the right terms
yeah they think it's bourgeois and childish and that you are bourgeois and childish if you are a feminist. sometimes the ones that want to act like Allies to Women will act like it's cute (read: naĆÆve) that you're a feminist and expect you to be flattered by that. otherwise you're stuck up and obnoxious for acknowledging rape culture, caring about your own safety, and not believing in bullshit like "rich women don't experience misogyny"
oh my fucking god
What is your middle name?
The name of one of my parents
The name of a relative or ancestor
The name of a friend of a parent
My mother's maiden name
A religious figure's name
Just a name my parents liked
Other
I don't have a middle name
I'm Option #1: My middle name is my mom's name. But I'd like to know if that practice is very common or not.

i think the scientology speedrunners should start visiting the hospital mitch mcconnell is supposed to be in. i think it would be enriching for them
itās been talked about a million times but way too many books now have a problem with telling and not showing. a character in the book iām reading rn said āmy therapist says my anorexia and drug use is my way of gaining controlā girl i donāt want to hear that i want to see you starving yourself and snorting coke every time something goes wrong
getting kicked off love island for just swimming in the pool and not talking to anyone
Travis Kelce is dumb jokes will never not be funny to me. I don't even hate the guy or anything but I love joking about how stupid he is because it's true.
this one in particular tickled me
submitting this for consideration bc it looks like i forgot to screenshot the one where someone said his vows took 20 minutes bc he had to sound out the words
She took my fucking mind palace, I'm thinking out of my mind car now.
You know that whatever character did those problematic things isn't like. Real, right?
You are aware that a fictional character is just a rhetorical construct designed to fulfill a narrative/thematic purpose right? That their actions are written by an author who wants to use them to explore complex ideas and moral gray areas within the safe confines of fiction right? That they aren't a real person who has killed real people right?
some of yall do need to get more feminist for real
like i do think that to engage properly with theory around anti transmasculinity and exorsexism you should also be engaging with feminism more broadly, and understand feminist history and theory and various approaches etc etc. you are not immune to internalizing shallow pop feminism, or anti-feminist talking points, or just being undereducated on feminism.
bell hooks wrote Feminism Is for Everybody specifically as a short, accessible primer to explain feminist theory without complicated academic language, & you can read it here or watch someone read it aloud here! and you should! at minimum i think everyone should read/listen to this book. if you want to go deeper with hooks, also check out Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center.
i also recommend (although these are varying degrees of accessible & skew US-centric; also, every text can and should be read critically! its good for everyone! critical engagement is an act of mutual respect and encouragement!):
Enemy Feminisms: TERFs, Policewomen, and Girlbosses Against Liberation by Sophie Lewis
Black Feminist Thought by Patricia Hill Collins
"Radical Feminism or Feminist Radicalism" by Ellen Willis
Women, Race and Class by Angela Y. Davis
Capitalist Patriarchy and the Case for Socialist Feminism by Zillah R. Eisenstein
The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan
Feminist Theory: The Intellectual Traditions (4th ed.) by Josephine Donovan*
"Wages Against Housework" by Silvia Federici
*as an introduction to the history of feminism & to get a sense of how various feminist theories evolved; Donovan is pretty hostile towards Butler and very positive about cultural radical feminism. so not a source of good transfeminist theory, but has educational value.
