Meet Abbi, the lead Tactician in Forget Me Not! Abbi, a jaguarundi, was a software developer on T’zen, but when she’s exiled to the medieval fantasy land of Thurlos, she soon finds she has no relevant skills for survival other than her ingenuity. Through perseverance and luck, she finds her way to a human settlement and, with great difficulty, convinces them to accept her into their community by proving her worth in the training yard. Abbi takes up arms and patrols the roads around their settlement. Abbi is equally skilled with using both shield and spear either defensively or offensively, and boosts her chances of success with clever trickery, such as erecting totems to ward off enemies and bolster allies, or polishing her helmet until it can reflect the sun into her opponent’s eyes. In Forget Me Not, her role on the battlefield involves deflecting damage from herself and teammates, mitigating geographical effects, and dispatching intruders who wander onto their side of the battlefield.

Next up on the Forget Me Not cast is Juni Newdawn! Juni, a fruit bat, fills the Specialist slot as an assassin/necromancer, using speed and cunning to, erm... “generate resources.”

First official sprite of Forget Me Not, a game I’ve started making in Godot 4.0! This is Zeke Barrens, the first of the game’s four main characters. Zeke the badger takes on the frontlines in the Assault role, where he’ll press the team’s aggression forward while protecting his allies behind him.

I considered selout for the outlines, but opted for a simple (slightly colored) outline to help the animations stand out against the background (which will probably use selout).

I’m keeping much of the details of the game a secret for now, but in a nutshell, this will be a roguelike/RPG with a secret third mechanic, and a cast of characters that all have a very long memory. It’s called “Forget Me Not,” after all!

Digging up some oldies! This is some art from the turn-based strategy game for Krythe. This was a group project in college where I got to take the lead in designing and implementing a game in PyGame with a team. The game was unfinished, but playable if you knew the rules.

At the start, you’d choose a faction, either Plasmodians (red) or Nat’Aspan (purple). Two more factions were planned: Krythans, and AITech. You’d then have some points to spend to build an army, and after that, you’d be taken to the game board.

Each player started with a row of (free) infantry, standing in front of a second row comprised of the army you’d built, and then a Commander in the center behind that. You could move a few pieces per turn by clicking a piece, then choosing one of the hexes that were highlighted within its range, or you could attack another unit either from range or up close. If you dealt enough damage, the enemy piece would be removed from the board. The goal was to destroy the enemy’s Commander before they destroyed yours. It played out similar to chess, and we’d planned on giving the units special abilities, like repairing downed units for the robot faction, or psychic abilities for the Krythans.

I think I mentioned this a long time ago, but this is how I wrote the war scene of Krythe - by inventing a board game around Gan City and playing it out turn by turn! Each grid space had different defense values based on terrain, and some areas offered bonuses like repairing vehicles or powering anti-air turrets. There was also a second battle taking place in the sky (on the whiteboard), and units from one board could affect the other, such as dropping troops from above, or damaging units below as large ships crashed. As I played, I took notes on where troops were moving turn-by-turn, and used that to inform the scene as I wrote the chapter - the main characters were in the mix somewhere in the middle, and as the tides of war shifted on the game board, it impacted how I wrote the scene in the book!

An angery badger.  Zeke is able to enter a berserker rage, but I haven’t quite captured the look I want for that yet.  Still, I’m happy with how this turned out with regards to foreshortening.

First time inking, and I gotta say... Forget Me Not is looking more and more like it might actually be a real comic some day.

Finally put some effort into a high-quality sketch of Abbi, first time since I drafted this character about a year ago. I only recently figured out her species - a jaguarundi. I think I've finally narrowed in on the style I want for the graphic novel starring these critters. Now to redraw the whole cast like this...!
