I'm a sucker for romance. More of a reader than a televisionwatcher, but when my daughter got me hooked on Supernatural in 2019, Sam and Dean just blew my mind. Funfact: I discovered the existence of fanfiction by watching The monster at the end of this book. Oh yes, I should add that I do not think sex between consenting adults is morally wrong even if they are related, so don't expect me to relegate my defense of wincest to the "it's only fiction" corner. Love is love. No bigotry allowed on this blog.

I went through almost all wincest fics and quite a lot of J2 rpf fics, and bookmarked the ones I like. They’re tagged systematically for easy navigation. There’s over 2000 bookmarks now but if you filter for top favourites the number goes down to about 500. You can also filter by trope, for instance A/B/O, AU, Demon!Dean, Soulless!Sam, heaven fic, post-apocalypse, animal transformation, amnesia, fuck or die, ghost fic, vamp fic, were fic, etcetera. 

Almost all fics I bookmarked are finished works. The exceptions are tagged Unfinished. J2 is clearly tagged as well. If I add a “non-au” tag to J2 fics, it means that in the story Jared and Jensen are actors who play or played Sam and Dean on television, rather than mob bosses or college students. 

I’ve gotten on a second OTP reading binge since 2024, this time Johnlock, so by now I’ve added about 500 Sherlock fics to my bookmarks (johnlock and mystrade). Mostly BBC Sherlock, but quite some ACD as well. 

To keep things manageable, the Supernatural bookmarks are on my main pseud Lasfloresdelcamposanto, the Sherlock stuff on the Lostwithoutmyblogger pseud.

I've also made a Wincest LiveJournal rec list, all personal favourites not archived on AO3 but still present on LJ, at least they still were as of 2024. You can see it here:

Chat, is it considered “abusive roommate behavior” to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)

For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called “Princess Time” where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and I’d quickly clean that stuff up.

So like, if I’m expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed “trash” by the trash panda and thrown away.

I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.

Somehow he's a registered voter now. Called the county clerk. Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty. Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons? Me: Yes, but he's a cat. Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county? Me: He's a legal cat. Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption. Me: He can't file anything. He has paws. Clerk: You can file on his behalf. Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat." Clerk: (pause) Check "unable to serve due to medical reasons." Me: What's the medical reason? Clerk: He's a cat. Me: That's not a medical condition. Clerk: It is if it prevents him from serving. Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later. "Insufficient documentation. Please provide medical professional's statement." Took the letter to my vet. Me: I need you to write that my cat can't do jury duty. Vet: Why is your cat summoned for jury duty? Me: Excellent question. No good answer. Vet: This is the weirdest request I've gotten. Me: Can you just write that he's medically unfit to serve? Vet: On what grounds? Me: He's a cat. Vet: (started typing) "Patient is unable to serve due to species-related limitations including inability to speak, read, or comprehend legal proceedings." Me: Perfect. Sent it in. Got another rejection. "Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court." My roommate thought this was hilarious. Roommate: Felix is going to jail. Me: This is serious. Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens. Decided that was actually the only option left. Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters. Checked in at the courthouse. Clerk: Name? Me: Felix Martinez. Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix? Me: Yes. Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat. Me: I've been saying that for six weeks. Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption? Me: I filed three. All rejected. Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation? Me: Twice. Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this. Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me. Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote? Me: You tell me. Supervisor: This is a data error. Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out. They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience. Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry. Me: Appreciate it. Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted? This informal survey aims to gather statistics on the length and completion status readers on AO3 prefer for fanfic. The survey is not aff

I put together a relatively short survey (about two dozen questions, mostly multiple choice, all optional) to get some data on what fic lengths and completion statuses readers on AO3 prefer or avoid. If I get enough answers to have a good sample size, it should give us some insight into how people search and read on the archive.

If you find this interesting, feel free to share it with AO3 users elsewhere or post it to other platforms. I'd like to get a good crossection of readers that isn't biased by platform, if at all possible.

The survey is just for fun/curiosity, and isn't associated with any university, company, or other entity. It's just me asking you this stuff here :)
