The Kiss, by Gustav Klimt: Cat Version

it is so upsetting listening to so many males talk about all of the times they have gone on road trips alone and slept in their cars alone or on the side of the road, or travelled overseas alone and slept on the floor of strangers homes or in parks or at hostels and they appear to have such freedom in that they are able to be alone in ways that females, unfortunately, cannot…and there is an ignorance surrounding this in that these boys never seem to comprehend just how fortunate they are that strange people and unfamiliar places and the dark of night are not their enemies but rather exciting, promising things
it is past time we jettisoned the useless false dichotomy of introversion vs. extroversion and just accepted that everybody has a minimum amount of social interaction, failing which, they get really weird. and everybody has a maximum amount of social interaction, exceeding which, they get really weird. these levels are different for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and have no moral dimension. and that is all.
it IS a phase, mom
show me a permanent state of the self, mom
Impermanence does not mean insignificance, mom
The key to a happier life is being in a constant state of change and acceptance, mom
when lizzo said "self love is survival" and when hannah gadsby said "do you understand what self-deprecation means when it comes from somebody who already exists in the margins? it’s not humility. it’s humiliation" and when mitski said "i used to rebel by destroying myself, but realized that’s awfully convenient to the world. for some of us our best revolt is self preservation"
Me when i see a wild animal in a metropolitan area: reclaim your space, we are the invaders, retake what is yours
I don't think it's a coincidence that the nu-atheist movement slowly turned in to the incel-blackpill-4chan fascism we're dealing with now. A lack of religious belief doesn't in any way make someone a bad person and we should be criticizing organized religion and all the harm it's done. But the cynical dudebro atheist culture had a distinct ideology - it wasn't about science so much as using the concept of science as validation for a bitter, joyless view of the world.
I remember when people in that scene loved to talk about how no one's pets actually loved them, and people who deluded themselves into thinking their dog wasn't just using them for food were idiots. That's just science, are you triggered snowflake? But in reality, actual science has shown that your dog does have a positive emotional connection to you, one that goes beyond seeing you as a provider of necesities. So why would these self-proclaimed logical, rational men ignore the actual science in this case? Because they have been raised in a culture that rewards cruelty and dominance. Genuine scientific thinking involves abandoning your preconceived notions and coming at a subject with an open mind, but they never did that. They just looked for validation for what they already believed - everyone is inherently cruel and selfish, nothing has any meaning, we come into a heartless world for no reason, fuck kill and die and nothing matters.
This deliberate rejection and mockery of any kind of sentimentality, spirituality or connection with the land and other living beings is unhealthy. It's settler-colonial manhood taken to it's logical end point, an angry refusal to genuinely feel anything, trust anyone or make yourself vulnerable in any way. It's the mentality that human beings are all enemies who gain from each other's suffering. It isn't actually based in logic or reason, just a long oppressive ideological history, and it really isn't surprising that it became violent as fast as it did.
remember when you were a child and you thought the moon was following you in the car…gud times

THIS IS THE FUTURE I’M SO EMOTIONAL I HAVE TEARS IN MY EYES
Why hasn’t this existed for years???
This HAS existed for years, actually! Check out “The Avion My Uncle Flew” (2004), an exciting YA book that starts off in English and ends up completely in French.
I’ve always thought the concept was brilliant, and I’m extremely pleased to hear that Jonny and Alex are taking it further :)
if it ends up being biden v trump we gotta start burnin shit down
No. We don’t.
What we have to do is fucking GROW UP.
There’s not one single thing in the world (outside of the choice of what’s for dinner) that gives “us” 100% of what we want 100% of the time. This is especially true for politics.
Do you know what Biden is?
An acceptable (note: not perfect. not necessarily desirable.) compromise candidate who can pull the largest number of people behind him.
Do you know what Biden is? A candidate who can carry the Midwest and Rust Belt states, the flyover states that went to Trump and guaranteed his victory.
He’s a candidate with experience. He’s a candidate who has been in the trenches for decades, has seen social challenges and changes, who has been wrong in the past (but right for the time he was in, wrong when viewed with today’s lens) and has apologized for the “mistakes” he has made.
He’s lost his son and grieved deeply.
Would I like to see other candidates? sure. I particularly like Mayor Pete Buttigieg. But when the time comes to enter the voting booth? Vote for the party (that’d be Democrat) if you can’t vote for the candidates, because it’s better to have Biden than Trump.
If it’s Joe Biden, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!
If it’s Pete Buttigieg, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!
If it’s Beto Freaking O’Rourke, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!
I’m gonna level with you, I have qualms about EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN THE RACE. I’m leaning toward Elizabeth Warren. But no matter who ends up getting the nomination, they are going to be better than Trump. Trump is abusing the hell out of executive privilege. He’s gotten to appoint a fuckton of judges. He’s taking unilateral action to restrict civil rights, particularly the rights of trans people. There are legitimate concerns that Trump will try to resist stepping aside if he loses the 2020 election! At this point, the name of the game is containing the fucking damage.
See your vote as voting AGAINST trump. Not for someone else.
If you must start burning shit down, wait until after we’ve voted Trump out of office and we have a president whose first response won’t be to attempt to put tariffs on fire.
