Childhood abuse survivor Julian Bashir feeling monstrous even before he knows about the augmentations. Simply for existing. For wanting. For needing.

When he learns about the augmentations... it just has a place to go.

So he makes himself heroic.

Selfless.

The man when wouldve saved Jules.

But he still sees a monster when he looks in the mirror. Because there is a desperately lonely, covetous thing there that he blames on the augmentations. Something he daren't share with anyone because of how certain he is that it makes him a monster.

No one ever stood a chance of loving him, because they only ever saw the shadow on the wall. Even death casts a shadow.

What would it mean to truly be seen?

How can you love an animal so ill-socialised? How can you hold a creature all broken bones and sharp teeth?

He's cured plagues.

He's saved worlds.

He's still just a shadow on the wall.

Jules is still alive in there.

was at the public pool yesterday and i kept looking around at all the women with fat and rolls and stretch marks and discolouration and cellulite and scars and thighs that bounce and bellies that jiggle and it's like wow. literally Everyone has these features that society is trying to convince us are evil and unnatural. idk it just really put things into perspective for me. highly recommend checking out your local public pool

A perfect representation of opposites attract,

but when you think about it-- it's the same profession. Or rather in the same perview of business.

Whats really the difference between an infirmary and an interrogation room?

The smell of new blood,

disinfectant covering up the old,

and the same sharp instruments.

Whats the difference between hurting and healing?

One chemical kills,

while the other heals,

one move and a person dies.

It makes sense for Garak to be wary of infirmaries.

And to simultaneously be attracted to Julian.

it's knowing the right amount of pressure to induce,

just to get the results you want.

I know Julian wouldn't be a villain but just imagine for a second that he is. Augmented without his consent as a child and forced to keep it a deadly secret his whole life while people like him are called a monster and less than human. Struggling to make and keep friends, struggling to keep a mask on and when a changling replaces him, nobody notices. Then the augmentations are revealed and legally nothing happens to him, was it all then for nothing? I think he could very easily snap and it would be valid. Garak wouldn't want Julian to tread this path, would want to keep his hands clean, but after some convincing he would join him to keep him safe. And who could hope stop an augmented human and Cardassian ex spy?
