The opposite of “the elephant in the room” is “the centipede in the room”: something that’s not actually an issue but everyone is freaking out about
im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
even if the story is genuinely bigoted, i really recommend trying to have a conversation with it anyways?
recently I've been digging into a very deeply and frankly insultingly misogynistic series, which, against all odds, has created this really compelling female character whose story it can't figure out how to tell. the character's personality and backstory DEMAND that she be at the helm of her own story, and so there's a weird tug-of-war happening between the writer's storytelling instincts and his internalized misogyny.
kids were roleplaying with minecraft figurines and one of them had their figure go up to the other and say “i’m in love with you” and the other one replied “sword slash to the chest. and you’re on fire”
too many people have the idea that racism is a nothingburger thing. like. people die from that. it’s not “cancel culture” to call out racism. and if you’re white and you say anything close to that you have some serious self-reflecting to do. idc if you’re a content creator. idc if “it could happen to you.” having a platform on the internet and saying stupid bullshit doesn’t make you more oppressed than the marginalized groups you’re criticizing for being upset
It’s genuinely so gross how common the phenomenon of dark skinned characters being whitewashed in order to be depicted as soft/innocent/feminine is.
girls night girls night
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
i know everyone posts this one cause its just so well written but im still going to cause damn
cannot understand why people like youtubers who are yelling the entire time. why do you let that man raise his voice at you.
racism literally bleeds through the cracks of everything and if you dare to even barely point it out everyone will kill you
racism runs so deeply in people that if you call it out you are calling out them, and instead of sitting down and examining their own racism they lash out at you for being sooo meansies to them. you don't even have to be talking about anyone's racist behavior in particular because it makes racists so uncomfortable they will come forward themselves and act like you're targeting them specifically. it's okay when they do it because they're doing it in the correct way, in the nice way! they don't mean it like that. in fact they're actually being progressive. you're the cruel one for acting like their racist behavior is racist. you're the problem if you're bothered by their comfort racism. you're the bitchy colored person who makes eeeverything about racism when it so clearly isn't. i'm fucking sick of this.
every conversation on here increasingly feeling like this tweet
important reminder that most people you follow online are significantly lamer than you think they are including me. and if you feel insecure comparing yourself to someone online: DON'T. theyre probably also lame and weird. most people on the internet are
reblog if you're also lame and weird.
my hot take is that tumblr should have a bookmark function as well as likes
