When I was little my mom’s meatloaf was my favorite food. But ONLY her meatloaf. I didn’t like anyone else’s, and she told me that she would teach me how to make it when I was older. And when I was like 19? She finally taught me, but she told me never to tell anyone else and I was like weird but okay

Anyway, she was super fucking homophobic and abusive to me when I told her I was gay, so here’s the recipe

4-6 lbs of Hamburger/turkey burger

1 pk onion soup mix OR ranch mix

1 TBs ketchup

1 Tbs spicy brown mustard,

1 Tbs bbq sauce

1 Tbs steak sauce

1 egg

mix, shape into a loaf in a big pan, and bake at 350 for 2 hrs (maybe 2 and a half if you’re feeling dangerous)

You can get almost all of these ingredients at the dollar store, and have leftovers if it’s just you. The leftovers make great tacos if (taco seasoning is also like a dollar). Enjoy your revenge loaf

here’s a mashed potato recipe from my homophobic mother that i swore to never share that would pair perfectly!

(6 servings)

-2lbs red potatoes

-1 cup butter (2 sticks)

-1 cup cream cheese (1 pack)

-Chives (optional)

-Salt & Pepper to taste

1. drop those bad boys (potatoes) in a big ol pot. U don’t even have to chop them just wash them

2. boil til soft!

3. Drain

4. Mash (usually they’re small enough you can use a fork if u don’t have one of those squashers) until its a pretty chunky mix

5. add the other stuff. Keep mashing

I like my mashed potato consistancy more lumpy but its all up to you!! Peel the potatoes or keep them on, it literally makes the creamiest fluffiest mashed potatoes which she always served with the nastiest fuckin meatloaf

IDK the last time I logged into Tumblr (maybe a year? more than a year?) but anyway, hello!

Today there were two unexpected moments of kindness and connection that I’ll write down to remember.

I was at the auto shop getting an oil change and brakes replaced, and a woman came up and apologized for interrupting me but she had to ask, where did I get my T-shirt? It has an Audre Lorde quote on the back: “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” I thanked her for asking, and she thanked for me wearing it, seemed genuinely moved to see something like it out and about.

When I was leaving the auto shop, the mechanic mentioned that there’s another issue with my car that he noticed because of a sound when he took it for the test drive after finishing work. I mentioned that I may not have been able to hear it and I forget quite the order of the conversation but I ended up mentioning my hearing aids or something and he gets kinda quiet and mentions his hearing isn’t that great, and... well, it may be a personal question, should he ask? Well, he asks anyway, could I recommend someplace to talk to someone about that? He says his ears ring, and he has to turn up the volume pretty loud on the TV to hear it, and he’s self-conscious about it, but maybe it’s time to actually admit that something could help... I gave him the name of where I go, and tried to gently normalize and encourage. I forget that so many other people still feel stigma and shame around these things (and that I still feel stigma around other things, no one is without it). It was a really nice moment of connection, and I hope that that sparks something for the mechanic to seek help and get to hear better sooner.

One advantage of not really having a strong sense of gender identity is that you’re very [shrug emoji] about how people gender you. Sometimes people call me by she/her pronouns and sometimes they go with he/him pronouns and on the internet people often default to they/them, and neither option is entirely right but also, fuck if I know what would be right, and I don’t particularly care. Therefore I’m perfectly happy to outsource my gender identity to the people around me who actually need to figure out which box to put me in. I don’t need to talk about myself in third person, so really my pronouns sound like a you problem.
