Way back February of this year, I left my previous work and had a month of rest before I went back to the workforce. While I am taking a sweet time off from stress and sleepless nights (or rather ‘days’ since I work at night), I suddenly missed the blogging world. This brought me to a decision of putting up a new blog which I pray to grow and give me a chance to earn money.
This was the time when I started pinoygoals.com
I felt that this is a great chance for me to build my blogging credibility, This is my chance to create posts that are not about my life. Also, I am a fan of seat sales, promotions, discounts, and all hot stuff that are happening in the Philippines. I believed that when you promote brands of a specific company, big corporations might notice me and give me tokens in return. All you have to do is build your website, let people know that you exist, and let them believe that you are credible enough. That’s my fuel, it pushed me hard to bring out all the creative juices in me.
I started the journey by getting a domain for Php50 (USD 1.00) for a year at GoDaddy. Yes, it’s incredibly cheap! But it took me time to set the site up. Since I have Friendster account, I love working on codes, HTML, CSS. It always gives me a headache, but I understand it. I never wanted to spend a lot of money in building this website up. It took me months and months to choose the perfect theme, the branding, and the topics that I will feature. Finally, the site went live in July. I spent hours researching on different trends, working on articles, and making it visible across social media. I am so thankful when I had avid viewers and offered me tokens and freebies. It happened, not all, but I am still thankful. I loved it when they appreciate my efforts to help them with their campaigns. It is a rewarding experience.
And then one day, I woke up and I decided to stop working on it. I am in the midst of my crisis and I felt that it was not meant for me. I still believe blogging is my passion, but Pinoy Goals is not what I like to do. It took a huge chunk of my time and I don’t think I can continue doing this, especially that I also have a full-time job at night. I cannot put a personal touch on my blog. I tried, but It’s not natural. My last update on my blog was on October 4th.
The site is still up, but I am planning to close it down before the year ends. I spent too much time on it, and I think the returns were not enough. But, this is not the end of my blogging stint. I’d like to restart with another one, this time focusing on my own adventures. This is something natural, something that everyone can relate to, and of course, inspiring.
I learned three things:
It’s okay to commit mistakes! We may have done bad decisions or choices in life, but I think of it as a lesson instead of punishment. Mistakes are natural ways of telling you that better things are meant for you. It may be painful, but it will make you stronger.
You have to spend time, effort, and/or money for the things you like. My mistake is I didn’t allow myself to allot money to make my blog and social media platforms visible to my target audience. I could have spent some money to boost my posts, enhance my website features, or create some gimmicks. I have not tried sacrificing my sleep or comfort just to spend more time on my blog. Moving forward, you really have to invest and invest. Results might not be visible at the soonest time, but you will reap what you sow.
Remember why you started. It’s always easy to give up just because you think you are leading nowhere. We always need to believe that there are no shortcuts to success. There will be sunny days, there will be rains, there will be floods. You may rest for a while, but go back when you are ready. I dream because everything is possible. God will give you all your needs, but getting it may not be easy. He may lead you to a way that is different from yours, eventually, you’ll get there. You will make your dreams come true.
I am creating a new blog, which will be launched on January 1st. I promise it will be worth reading! A big thank you to everyone who visited my site and inspired me from the day I started Pinoy Goals. It will close down on December 31st.
