I have somehow spawned a purple daikon radish! I'm hoping to save seeds and I intend to see if any offspring will also be this wonderfully purple.

A video of me discovering the latest volunteer tomatoes I have... in the least sunny part of my yard, the north side of the house, at the foot of the north-most fence.... how are they not leggy as fuck? That spot only gets like, 2 hours of sun total, max, per day!
My first cucumber harvest! The buckets are working well so far!
Galatea had a cool moment in combat in the last session- she rescued Yūji! Crush had grabbed her, and thus Galatea revoked his hand privileges.
I had fun getting to draw Teya in her Scion disguise for this one!
I got to deliver a line before killing one of the Big Bads of our Kaiju TTRPG.
Dude was a mind-controller, had been abusing and manipulating a whole town/small city of people to become his army for years. He was always aiming to get out of the shadow of his fellow villains.
And not only did Yūji take him out of the fight as a side-effect of an attack on a different villain, she also later walked over to his dying body and spoke to him just before crushing his skull.
It was so satisfying!!!!
I really do love my 30% shade cloth. It really can make a difference.
We are starting to edge closer to summer temps now, in my area of Nor Cal, and some of my cucumbers and tomatoes were starting to show the first signs of drooping and stress from the heat.
But I didn't want to completely shade them- they all have tiny fruits being set and more to go and they need the sun and the warmth to keep going. So, how can I help them adjust to the increased UV and temps? A 30% shade cloth. Just enough to cut the edge, but not enough to completely shade them!
I know it doesn't even look like much in the picture (especially with my whole yard already being in evening shade when I took it), but it really did make the difference- both cucumbers and tomatoes stopped drooping only a few hours after I put it up.
Don't underestimate small changes! (I keep reminding myself)
y'all, these cucumbers are growing so fast
These pictures are only 4 days apart!!!
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
I enjoy doing gardening. Like the actual digging in the dirt, ripping weeds, trimming plants, toiling in the earth parts of it. And I like being able to do that part, even when it's not for my own garden.
I helped a friend the other week, they weren't able to dig up their potatoes for mental health reasons. And so I was like, "I could just come over and dig up the potato bed for you." And they were like, "but... that would just be like, you coming to my house and doing a chore." And I was like, "yes, a chore/task that I enjoy, and it would also be helping you, my friend. So double good feelings attached!"
And now I've got another friend who's HOA has sent them a notice that their front yard patch needs to be weeded and trimmed, but everyone at their house is like super busy right now. And I chime in with, "oh, I'd love to come over and weed and trim your front yard garden for you." And their first instinct was to go like "but if you come visit and all you do is manual labor, I will feel like a bad friend." And I had to reassure them, "No, no, no, I am inviting myself over to your place to do my hobby. It's a physical hobby, but I would be having fun doing it, and I would feel good knowing I am also helping a friend!"
So I'm gonna go garden at my friend's place tomorrow and yes, I am legitimately excited to do it.
If you've been waiting to do something "once in a blue moon" there's one tonight! 🌕🌌
baby cucumbers!!!
The buckets seem to be working so far! I can't wait to see how the flavor turns out!
please eat enough and drink enough water and get enough sleep. this is so that you have enough energy. because we need you to be writing and drawing porn on the internet
i am currently on my 5th attempt to move a small black walnut sapling from where squirrels planted them in my garden.
For the first 3 attempts, I think I both didn't get enough of the root ball when I dug them up ( the tap root especially with #1), and then let them dry out in the pots I put them in. And they were outside, which led to unstable conditions.
For attempt #4, I got the whole root system, it was a very small sapling, only about a foot long in total from the base of the tap root to the top of its little leaves. And I wanted to see if it would do better being held in just water, no soil. Turns out, no.
Attempt #5 is going much better. I got the whole root ball, and I'm keeping it indoors with a catch tray beneath its pot, and I'm shielding it from direct sunlight for now.
So here's hoping 5 is my lucky number for black walnuts. (And if not, the squirrels have given me a lot more to try with.)
