â Â a pavement of the past
To understand Killian, you have to go back to 1937. Back to a time when Alexandria Hastings, a young werewolf of the Greyson pack, met and fell in love with a man named Rhys Granger. He was Beta of the Riordan pack in London and only visiting for a handful of weeks on pack business. In that short amount of time they shared a whirlwind romance of stolen nights, whispered secrets, and half formed plans that were never meant to see fruition. Their relationship wasnât supposed to be anything but a fling but when it came time for Rhys to return home, Alexandria realized that she couldnât go through with their inevitable goodbyes. With her mind made up she packed her bags and departed for London at his side. The two eventually went on to marry and in the winter of 1943 their first and only child, Killian Lucas Granger, was brought into the world.
From day one Killian was raised to be a warrior, to live and breathe the pack motto, âEsto sine timoreâ; be without fear. Riordan wolves did not shy away from a challenge, even if it meant a sure death, and he was never allowed to forget that. By adolescence the ideas of loyalty, perseverance, and sacrifice were as much a part of him as his own two hands. The greater good of his family, and his pack, would always and without exception come before his own needs or desires. It was a way of living that even at such a young age he welcomed and it became a common assumption that a position among the pack hierarchy looked promising for his future. Ultimately, however, that would never be. In the summer of 1956, when he was thirteen, the Riordan wolves were caught off guard in an attack and all but decimated because of a territorial feud. Once numbering close to 30, they were now reduced to one. His mother had been killed instantly and he himself had been injured in the fight. However, his father, though fatally wounded, had managed to get his young son away from the bloodbath before taking his last breath. Killian was suddenly alone but not for long.
Despite becoming a Riordan wolf by choice, his mother had been a Greyson wolf by birth and had never fully severed ties with her bloodline. Unbeknownst to him, sheâd already made arrangements in the event that anything ever happened to her and her husband. Killian was retrieved in London and quickly sent to live with her familial pack. Almost instantly he was taken under the paws, so to speak, of some of his motherâs closest friends and former pack mates, Sophia Greyson, and her sister Daralis. Though he was angry and lost, Kil immediately formed an ironclad bond with the Original werewolves. In his eyes Sophia was the closest link he still had to his mother and, in a sense, became one to him herself. On the opposite end, Dara quickly became the mentor he needed and even more importantly, a friend. As time went on he slowly but surely assimilated into his new pack but the death of his parents was never forgotten or far from his mind.
For five years Killian patiently waited and carefully planned, spending his days and most of his nights in training with Dara or privately plotting his revenge. It wasnât in his nature to kill needlessly but the wolves responsible for his parents death wouldnât live to see one day more than he deemed necessary. At the age of eighteen he set off for London on his own and tracked them down. Whether it was through greed for more power or simple stupidity, those responsible had already managed to kill most of themselves off. Finishing the job for them was almost too easy a task and with their blood on his hands his curse was triggered. His goal was achieved and he returned to his pack without lingering in the city he had once called home.
From that moment on Killian has rarely strayed from his pack for longer than a few weeks at a time and his loyalty to the Greysonâs is unwavering. He fought alongside his pack in the Third World War and inevitably settled down in Hollow Grove after its establishment. Itâs been his home ever since and he has no intentions of changing that unless asked of him. Where his pack goes, heâll surely follow.
â Â the nature of the beast
In general, Killian is an agreeable man but, like most wolves, is prone to mood swings and an aggressive temper if provoked. Heâs always put others before himself from a very early age and the years havenât changed that behavior. But itâs important to remember that while he is willing to be a friend to most, his allegiance will always be to his pack. He is loyal and protective of those he considers family to a fault and there isnât a single thing he would not do for them (whether it be lending a hand or taking a life). Because of their significance to him, this is especially said to be true of Sophia and Dara Greyson.
Though the Riordan wolf pack is no longer in existence, Killian still clings to their idea of living without fear. Heâs more calculating than he is impulsive but he will face any situation head on. Even though heâs typically warm in nature heâs absolutely capable of becoming detached from his emotions with an almost frightening ease. He doesnât allow feelings or his own well being to get in the way of whatâs necessary. If it needs to be done it will be done one way or another; in his eyes there is no such thing as giving up or backing down.
