Some woodpeckers make dainty little holes that barely damage the tree.
On the other hand, pileated woodpeckers
Your tree has been visited by the Flying Tree Doctor and diagnosed with Infested. He has removed the Unauthorized Fucking Thing. Praise be to Flying Tree Doctor.

Have you ever made a coelacanth? Your squids and cuttlefish are super cute. Sea hares and anemones would be fun to see too.
Thank you so much! Yes, I made a Coelacanth not too long ago. Here it is! I think a sea hare will be next soon, and maybe anemones too (āāæāāæ)

So at a party it is socially acceptable to just silently join a circle of people talking and contribute to the conversation when you feel like it as if you already know everyone in the circle, btw.
If you want to know peopleās names at some point saying āSorry, did I catch your name?ā or āSorry, what was your name again?ā like youāve briefly been introduced before is a good move.
Conversation openers for starting a conversation with a random person next to you:
Whatās the punch taste like?
What are you drinking?
How do you know the host?
Hey, nice shoes!
Did you bring this drink/food/decoration/etc.?
Hey, whatās your costume?
Are you from (place where a lot of people at the party work or are from)?
Hi! Did you come with (mutual friend)?
Fr? On god? Just like that?
Yeah, just act like youāve been there the whole time.
I have social anxiety and discovered this by trial and error despite my fears. I took on this burden for all of you so you donāt have to. Trust me. Just stand in the gap in the circle. Itās waiting for you. Itās an event where people are expecting to meet other people. Itās not creepy or weird. Theyāre there to talk to strangers and friends alike. Just step into the circle.
When I was in grade school I used to send emails to biologists and zoologists asking them questions to get answers to include in school projects I was working on, and would cry when they did not respond because I thought I was stupid for thinking that some random kid would ever be deserving of a response from someone who does something as smart and cool and important as *checks notes* studies frog fungus.
Now, at 29, Iām lowkey having a panic attack because my academic email is filled with middle schoolers wanting me to answer their questions about pygmy raccoons and I keep putting off answering them because Iām so overwhelmed with all the other raccoon stuff I have to do.
Anyway, greatest apologies to any scientist I ever emailed as a child and also an adult.
I know your research is really important and I appreciate all you are doing but this is so fucking funny
Unfortunately, i have many questions such as: Why is it impossible to find candy snaps in the us? Why are Americans forced to suffer with Thompson seedless and those big stupid red table grapes? Why do I struggle to propagate grape cuttings? Why canāt I buy mars grapes in any stores?
The Pale Sword and the Crown
If you're going to insult a post or author in the tags, you really should keep in mind that all of your tags are literally copied word-for-word onto OP's activity page
there's no way to collapse or shorten the taglist on the activity page either afaik - meaning every single tag is displayed the entire time
and the longer your tags are, the bigger the notification will be on OP's screen
Actually a very funny side effect of this is that all tags are shown in the notes, but COMMENTS, by default (and maybe always?) are trimmed to only show the first 2-3 lines, meaning that insults in the comments (generally viewed as far more aggro/direct/aimed at OP) are much less likely to be read by the person you're insulting.
Mostly this is great! I love not seeing whatever fucked up shit MAGA assholes and TERFs say in my reblogs.
But occasionally it does lead to some, shall we say, entertaining miscommunications.
For example, that sometimes I will see someone commented on one of my posts starting with "That's not how that works."
So, since I have been following most of these issues for years now (and running this blog since 2022), and because a huge number of people are actively avoiding the news these days, and go "Ah! This person doesn't have the full context!" or "Ah! A teachable moment!" and write a comment to quickly and kindly explain the science/context/whatever
(This is an impulse I work to actively cultivate in myself, because gods know I have been wrong about PLENTY of shit in my life, and also, I have seen the damage that assuming bad faith can do. Both because I have been through shit that gave me a LOT of reason to assume bad faith at certain points in my life, and also, honestly, because one of the worst things that ever happened to a dear friend was done in part in my name, by people who were so convinced they knew what was going on, they never bothered to ask.)
So, you know, this is a style of response I'm pretty deliberate about, especially on this blog specifically.
....However, this does occasionally results in exchanges like the one blow.
(Which I put it behind a readmore bc, while it was somewhat entertaining to me, this is a good news blog!! And also my threshold for what counts as upsetting has been Very skewed by the fact that I've been an out trans activist irl for over a decade)
But yeah, long story short:
Everything you put in the tags is copy-pasted onto OP's note page in full
Comments and iirc replies have the first 2-4 lines copy-pasted onto OP's note page
So the tags are a great way to make sure other people see how much you love their art/writing/post/etc.!
However, in other cases, it may be something you want to keep in mind š

tf2 heritage post
it was international jazz day and all you guys listened to was a single album??
not even close to joking when i say that everyone going "meeeee :3" in the notes needs to ask themselves why they're so much more willing to listen to jazz that isn't made by black artists
If you like Casiopea, check out some classic jazz funk fusion albums like Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock or Return to Forever by Chick Corea.
If you like the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, check out some later period big band albums like Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus and The Roar of '84 by Buddy Rich.
If you like the Persona soundtrack, check out some more modern jazz fusion albums with electronic elements like Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal or Freedom Fables by Nubiyan Twist.
