It’s the sort of thing you watch and get a warm and fuzzy nostalgic high off how much it pays tribute 80s and 90s animation where the roots of MLP are.

Not ground breaking but a solid 8/10 at the least and a blast to sit down and enjoy, especially with the high-quality animation and music.

Personally Tempest Shadow’s performance/animation just sold this movie for me.

I was told that the models for this movies had a RIDICULOUS amount of frames for each turn around.  Rather than just sliding the features around on the face to give the illusion of 3 dimentions the characters had individual face shapes to flow between to make the turns SUPER smooth on every angle.

Having seen the movie I believe this 100%.  Was it overkill?  Possibly, but damn it looked GOOD.

It’s funny. I remember Lauren Faust one time commenting about how media targeted specifically for women or young girls are criticized more harshly than those made for boys. And here we are.

Also of note, it’s unknown officially what the exact budget for the film was but it’s said to be around 8 to 30 million dollars, the usual minimum budget for a theatrical animated feature these days is around 50 million to 65 million dollars. The fact that they managed to make the movie look this good on such a small budget is an amazing accomplishment (also the animators worked overtime through 7 day weeks towards the end of production to get the film finished on time).

There’s also the fact that while the film does include celebrities voicing the newer characters, the main cast from the show have all their original voice actresses/actors from the TV series, something that is extremely rare for big screen cartoon adaptations as they usually just recast the main characters.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and that this film isn’t perfect, but come on! It at least deserves more respect than The Emoji Movie!

Truthfully I think it was down to how the fuck do we put this in an order where you’ll have the person who would actually watch WhatMojo for anything but abject boredom because all the stuff you have on your recommended you’ve already seen to watch to the end. YOu have the surprise (VLD), the I’ve heard some bad things, but not that bad (SU), and Oh holy crap I’ve heard about this, yeah it’s bad.

Frankly the whole reason is that paradoxically R&M fits the old sterepotype of a toxic fan (somebody who takes a joke from it too seriously), while the other two have the new face (we’re good and moral and you shjould just fucking die because you’re obviously not moral).

All in all, the fandoms of all three are shitty, the fans vary, but the fandoms are massive shitpiles.

What’s really crazy is that there’s a huge dividing line between Old and Modern Fandom. You’ll note something about the top three they’re all after 2011, and are considered not mainstream.

Want to get down to it, the fandoms up there have one mindset from the subcultural shift that started in 2008 and really took hold in 2012. The hipster mindset of constant competition, bringing others down, and constantly trying to move away from the “mainstream”. Want a good example of how a fandom that by its nature nips that in the bud. Just look at the TTG fandom (and yes there actually is one). Hipsters and the subcultures that came afterwards with their mindset wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole. It can’t be enjoyed in an “ironic” way, it’s way too mainstream (even if the fandom is small, the fact that it’s outright a corporate cash grab makes it mainstream), and it really pushes home that all the cred/woke points/IQ points shit is so utterly meaningless that it would be the equivalent to their mindset as telling a 1990s goth that a red, black, and white wardrobe is absolute crap, they’ll have a hard time reconciling it.

And before you go but hipsters are all soyboys or whatever the new buzzword is, I’m talkingg the mentality, one that’s pervaded the counterculture subcultures after it. The mindset lives on in the Screeching far-left SJWs and their constant competition for woke points (, and the fedora tipping alt-right /pol/aks and their constant need to make everything a debate so they too can get that endorphin rush of being “right”.
