May we pretty please have headcanons of the Resident Evil Men (Leon, Chris, Luis, Carlos and Karl) hearing and feeling their soulmate slowly dying? They do survive, thankfully. But they don't know that until they feel the inner flame become brighter over time.
Imagine they started hearing someone shouting Lieutenant, a stranger wondering where this individual is, finding them, and then begging their lieutenant to keep their eyes open. Not sleeping. Staying with them as the men feel their kindred spirit flame almost fizzle out. Realizing that: my soulmate is dying.
CW: gender neutral reader, soulmate au, mentions of death (no actual death), references to injury, suggestions of grief (barely there), discussions of panic and anxiety, mentions of smoking/chain smoking
A/N: Ofc anon! I love this idea! This is all my opinion/headcannons so feel free to leave your own ideas in the comments or reblogs! I've never written an au like this before so getting this request was very exciting :)
Leon
I felt that this fit best with RE4 Leon as I wrote this, but ofc works for any other versions
Leon would very much feel it and feel it hard.
He wants to keep a level head since he has a job to do, but that sinking feeling in his heart won't go away, in fact it gets worse at times.
I feel like Leon would try as hard as he possibly can to keep priorities in line, but after all his soulmate is his priority too.
Leon would feel a bit better about not immediately rushing off to find his soulmate, but as the inner flame begins to dim, that's when he panics and it becomes hard for him to focus on the mission from that point.
He almost becomes paranoid, looking over his shoulder constantly and checking every single room that he passes just on the off chance that he finds his soulmate and makes sure that they're okay.
It takes a lot of willpower for Leon to not race off to find them, knowing that he'd feel much better and would be able to focus much better knowing that his soulmate was okay, but the other part of him didn't want to abandon the mission
However, when the inner flame grows dangerously dim, Leon enters a strange state. He hurries off more frantically and desperately to find them and save them since they're the one good thing that he has left in his life.
When he doesn't find them, his panic only grows, becoming meaner to whoever is around him.
That is until he feels the flame begin to grow again.
Leon would collapse to his knees in sheer relief, feeling that horrific weight being lifted off of his chest finally.
His soulmate was okay.
Chris
Chris is very concerned about the whereabouts of his soulmate, especially as the inner flame begins to dim.
However, in a similar manner to Leon, he doesn't panic until the flame begins to dim. However, this doesn't make him heartless in the slightest.
Chris knows his soulmate and trusts them to keep themself safe in any situation, in fact he had trained them after they asked him to, therefore he knew they had his skills and were perfectly capable of using them, so why should he worry?
Of course, he is terrified of losing his soulmate, but he is a lot better at detaching feeling from missions than Leon and Carlos are.
Similarly to Leon, he does become a lot more meticulous about searching rooms, but he knows that there is nothing that he can do about this situation since he left his soulmate at home.
Chris does grow more gruff and commanding as time wears on and he feels the flame begin to dim, by default becoming more and more paranoid, both about his soulmate and the men in his squad.
When the inner flame gets to a point where it is dangerously low, Chris orders his men to stop, placing his hand on his chest right over his heart where he can feel the warmth from the flame cooling.
He doesn't move at all.
After about ten minutes, the flame grows brighter and warmer again, and the tension drains from his jaw. His muscles relax and he lets out a sigh of relief, stroking small circles over his heart with his hand as if to comfort his soulmate.
Luis
Luis has nothing to lose, therefore scurrying away from Leon to search for his soulmate is a no-brainer to him.
There's no point telling Leon, since he has no stake in this, only Luis does.
He doesn't care about the risk as long as the person he is searching for keeps the inner flame burning.
When it beings to dim, however, that's when the panic sets in.
As I said, Luis has nothing to lose, therefore if he gets hurt searching for his soulmate? That's not a problem for him.
He will stop at absolutely nothing to find them and save them, even if it means backstabbing Leon and Ashley if it came to that, which deep down he hoped it didn't since he had become decently fond of the buff, blonde agent.
Luis sneaks around in the shadows searching for his soulmate, heading back in the direction of their home where he hoped they had ventured towards.
However, when he feels the inner flame begin to dim, he begins to panic.
He ropes Leon in for help, which is the first time that the agent has seen his new companion so worried and unconfident.
Luis stutters over his words and has a new sense of urgency about him that wasn't there before.
Leon has to try to calm Luis down as the panic begins to eat away at his carefree and nonchalant façade.
Luis even begins to chain smoke cigarettes from the stress.
However after a while, long after Leon manages to get Luis sat down and taking deep breaths, the tightness begins to lessen and his lungs begin to ease up.
In my mind, Luis resembles a man who is getting his breath back after sprinting. He's panting with relief as his chest lightens, feeling that familiar warmth of the inner flame returning to his chest.
It's almost immediate that his cocky jokes return and Leon beings to regret helping him.
Carlos
Carlos's reaction is much like Luis's reaction... except with guns.
The moment that he feels that inner flame waver, he's off on the hunt for his soulmate with absolutely nothing in the way to stop him from doing so.
He isn't entirely reckless though, he knows how to keep himself safe and keeps a relatively level head, however that all becomes difficult when the flame grows dimmer and dimmer and dimmer.
When the realisation that his soulmate is dying dawns on him, all logic flies out the window.
In that moment Carlos becomes an unstoppable force of muscle and bullets as he hunts mercilessly for his soulmate.
No stone is left unturned for him as he practically tears the place apart looking for them. He knows that their squad was sent to a different part of the facility to his so he is determined to find them and ensure that whoever laid a finger on them pays for it.
When that inner flame begins to steadily grow brighter, he takes a moment to pause, completely stopping in his tracks, feeling that warmth return.
Carlos even sinks against a nearby wall, bringing the chain that has a small pendant with his soulmate's initial engraved on it to his lips and kissing the metal.
It's a small token that he takes everywhere for luck, as he has become slightly superstitious that his soulmate is the reason he survives all of the missions that he has been on.
It wouldn't be a shock either if a tear slipped free from his eyes as he feels the flame grow stronger and stronger as the minutes pass.
Karl
In my mind, Karl's response resembles that of a wealthy mafia boss who simply sends off his minions to do his dirty work.
He has faith in his soulmate's strength and skills, in a similar way to Chris, except he's much cockier about it.
Karl knows that everyone in the village knows that they're his soulmate, so they wouldn't dare lay a finger on them.
However, the moment that inner flame begins to dwindle? He's off.
Once again resembling some strange form of mafia boss, he storms around like he owns the place, leaving absolutely no single stone unturned as he hunts for his soulmate and the fuckers who hurt them.
He bangs on Alcina's castle door, but she simply shoves him back out into the cold, presuming he's being dramatic again. However, when his soulmate is in danger, there's no such thing as dramatic.
Karl practically tears the entire village apart in his quest to save his soulmate.
But when he feels that warmth return as the flame flickers stronger, he simply sighs and returns to his factory without a second glance at whatever destruction he left behind.
I hate people who call themselves “brutally honest” when really they’re just mean. You don’t need to be brutal to be honest. You can deliver the truth in a way that’s direct yet kind. If you only use the truth to hurt people, that’s not honesty. It’s just being an asshole
A specimen of spinosaurus mirabilis with a genetic mutation that causes its recurved crest to point forward. This mutation proved rather useful in combat, as it was observed using its blade-like crest to slash, hook, and impale the necks of rival males. One researcher even reported seeing the animal sharpening the crest on the bark of a tree.
