to be honest, he doesn’t know how long ago it all started.
all he remembers is feeling breathless when your bright smile greeted him upon meeting you. it was the first day of a shared class, bright and early at the beginning of the school year. your friend had spotted his friend, they’d started chatting it up, and now he was left facing a very pretty individual.
“hi!” you’d beamed at him like he’d known you forever, holding out your hand. “i’m y/n.”
“leehan,” he’d offered back, and you’d repeated his name in a way that made him wonder what it would take to hear you say it again.
“leehan!”
he blinks, eyes focusing back on your hand waving in front of his face. you’re leaning forward, propping yourself up on the desk you’re both seated at. the hum of the library is thick, the clacking of computer keys and shuffling of papers nearly overwhelming in what one would normally consider to be relative silence.
“hey,” you say, tilting your head ever so slightly. “hey, you okay?”
leehan nods slowly, the effort needed to do such a simple motion surprisingly similar to moving underwater. “yeah. just… been staring at this computer for far too long.”
you ponder this for a moment before reaching out, tilting his laptop screen so that the document on screen disappears and the fish stickers on the back of the laptop come into view. he stares at you in surprise, watching as you close your own device and push back your chair, coming around the table to hold a hand out in front of him.
“come with me.”
“what-”
“leehan,” you say with all the mock seriousness that you can muster (he knows it’s not real because of the twinkle in your eyes, the way you’re fighting back a wide grin). “come with me.”
and who is he to refuse, when you’re right there and asking him to hold your hand?
so he takes your hand. he takes your hand, just like he’d taken your hand back then, and then you’re running through the shelves and the halls, muffled laughter bubbling up between the both of you, and your bright smile is back and your cheeks are round with happiness and gods, how is he here with you?
your hand is warm in his, much warmer than the burst of cold night air that envelops the two of you when you finally make it outside. the hour is late, but somehow the grassy field in front of the library feels different under the moonlight. you turn to him, breathless and all smiles, and the realization of just how close you two are crashes into him. he can see his face reflected in your eyes, wide and melding into the dilated pupils you’re gazing at him through, and he wonders what he must look like, from your point of view. he’s all you can see right now.
all he can see is you.
his breath stutters in his chest, heat rushing to his cheeks. they say the deeper you go in the ocean, the more the weight of the water presses down on your chest, heavier and heavier until you can’t breathe.
how far deep must he be right now, to be feeling like all the air has been sucked out of his lungs?
“oh,” you breathe slowly, and leehan cannot deny the simple fact that even such a small sound from you is lovely. you blink in what feels to be slow motion (or is the entire world underwater? the way your hair shifts in the wind, could it not be from the currents that hold the two of you afloat? the moonlight filters over the both of you like sunlight through water, the stars dotting the sky above you like seashells on a beach. is anything not possible when you’re standing here with him?)
you let out a breath, looking away from him, and leehan feels the currents twisting between you. “i’m sorry,” you say, stepping back and letting go of his hand, and now he’s falling, sinking, and his surroundings are so much colder now that you’re not anchoring him to the ground. something in his chest clenches (his lungs, still searching for air? his heart, searching for your warmth?), and it takes everything in him to push down all his inner turmoil and simply smile.
well. smile and reach back for your hand.
you glance up in surprise, inhaling sharply when he squeezes your fingers between his own. “don’t apologize,” he murmurs. “please.”
the look in your eyes is one he can’t read for one terrifying, endless moment. then you’re smiling again, squeezing back, and leehan knows he’ll fight back against the currents, swim up from the depths to get back to the surface, to the source of the light that filters over both of you.
a/n: something something depths of space... depths of the ocean... yeah. :]
sungho grins as you poke your head out of your window. “sungho,” you hiss into the phone, “what the fuck?”
“I just thought it'd be nice to go on a walk today. the stars are so pretty.”
you stare at him, jaw slack. “it's four a.m?”
“just come down if you aren't sleepy!” sungho rolls his eyes. “it's going to take barely fifteen minutes.”
you grumble as you hang up the phone before closing the door on your way out. “could've just watched the stars from my window.”
sungho laughs, your grumpy frown looking adorable in the street-light, especially paired with the bed hair peeking out of the bright pink hoodie you had thrown on. “come on,” he nudges, grabbing your hand and guiding you onto the pathway, “don't we feel like the main characters of a coming of age movie?”
you're still grumbling as you intertwine your fingers, letting him tuck your hand into his pocket, “this kind of stuff is only cool in movies, sungho.”
“oh yeah?” sungho asks amused, “why are you blushing then?”
“it's because it's cold!”
“uh huh.”
“park sungho, i swear i'll go back inside.”
“you're still blushing though.”
“shut up.”
sungho groans as he tosses on his bed, trying his best to go back to sleep. he's so tired but lately he just can't seem to stay asleep no matter what he does. he lets out a sigh of defeat as he half-heartedly attempts to get up because might as well, since i won't be able to go back to sleep anyway.
he's just about to push the blanket off of him when a sleepy voice stops him, “sungho, go the fuck to sleep. it's five in the morning.” you groan out, wrapping your arms around your boyfriend's waist.
sungho freezes. “uh-” he starts, trying to explain his predicament to you but you're insistent, tugging on his sleeve until he lays back down again. grabbing his hand, you bring yourself closer to him until you're nuzzling into his neck. you let out a small sigh of contentment as you drift off and sungho smiles up at the ceiling, trying to hide just how warm he feels right now. pressing a small kiss onto your hair, he also gives into the sleep which comes so easily when you're in his arms, one hand still wrapped around yours.
sungho's sitting on the balcony when you come home. he's wearing just a t-shirt and sweatpants, hand wrapped around an almost empty can of beer. he seems to be focused on the sunrise. you shake your head, putting your keys down to fetch a blanket to throw over his shoulders. he startles when you slide the door open, slightly tipsy from the beer.
“hey baby,” you whisper, not wanting to disturb the silent atmosphere the dawn brings, “why're you sitting out here hmm?”
sungho closes his eyes at the feeling of your hands brushing through his hair. pulling you into his arms and into the blanket he's cocooned himself in he mumbles, “was thinking 'bout you.”
“me?” you ask, hand still playing with the strands of his hair, “what about?”
“-wanna stay with you.”
you let out a small laugh, “you're already with me babe.”
sungho nuzzles his cold nose against the crook of your neck, “wanna do it forever.”
you freeze. “forever?” you echo, wondering if it was the beer speaking.
“for eternity,” he hums, pulling you even closer. “don't need anyone but you. wanna tell you that i love you everyday.”
you smile, leaning against your boyfriend's back. “me too,” you whisper.
he smiles, kissing your shoulder as the two of you stare at the sunrise.

You're sitting at your desk—finishing up this major assignment for college. After many days of being stressed, you've been able to collect yourself and work calmly. It's almost midnight, 11:58pm, and your boyfriend who's an office worker still didn't come home yet. You're sure it's nothing and you get up from your desk to grab some fruit to eat in the kitchen.
You first wash your hands and apply soap—watching the lather increase when you rub your hands together. Then, you pick up some strawberries, bananas, and peaches—and wash them up before picking up a knife and cutting them and placing them into a cute platter. You wash the utensils you were using and go back into your room to finish up your assignment. You then hear keys fumbling outside and the door unlocking—to see a very tired Sungho walking into apartment.
"Hi love—I'm home," Sungho speaks out while loosening his tie and collared shirt. No answer. "Love?"
"I'm in here!" You yell out from your room while in the middle of eating an apple.
Sungho smiles and walks into the room, knocking first before he enters. "Hey babe," Sungho mutters as he throws his bag onto the bed and partially unbuttons his collared shirt.
"Hey…" you mumble right after you finish eating your apple. Sungho comes closer to you and kisses the crown of your head.
"Are you still working on any assignments?"
"I just finished, then I went to get fruit."
Sungho nudges you. "Atta girl," he replies while ruffling your hair. He then proceeds to hug you super tightly so you don't escape from his grip.
"Sungho…" your voice muffled because he's hugging you so tightly. "I can't breathe…"
"Then don't breathe."
"So you want me to die?"
"Noooooo," Sungho whines before he starts peppering kisses all over your face. You try to escape his grasp but that doesn't seem to work. He starts walking and you start walking backwards—until you feel your legs on the edge of your guys' bed.
"Sungho please!" and you collapse onto the bed with your very exhausted boyfriend on top of you.
Sungho looks up at you with those cute eyes in which you cannot resist. "Love…why won't you let me cuddle you…? Hmph!" Oh—well looks like your boyfriend asks cute when he's exhausted? That's a first. "I just wanted to kiss you babe…"
"Okay," and you let him pepper your face once again.
On your cheek,
Then your nose,
Then your jawline,
Then your ear,
Then both of your eyelids,
And right before he lands a soft kiss on your lips, he looks back at you with that tired smile of his—then he kiss your soft lips. They're cold, but they feel so addicting that you don't want him to let go yet just yet.
"Alright you big baby, go change into your pyjamas and we'll get you to bed. I'll cuddle you, okay?"
"Yes please," you hear his muffled voice as he nuzzles his face into your neck. "I love you baby…"
"I love you too," You reply to Sungho softly. "Now get your ass up and change!"

you’ve always been a hopeless romantic for as long as you can remember. overthinking every little kind gesture — a guy picking a pencil for you, holding the door for you, or noticing your new hair cut. it’s the the little things that get you, or perhaps… the bar was extremely low.
that’s exactly why you developed the biggest crush on the class president of 1-A, myung jaehyun. not only was he undeniably handsome and smart — you admired how he always made sure every person in the school felt included. he basically fit every criteria of the perfect boyfriend in your eyes.
unfortunately for you, the entire school seemed to also have a crush on him and as much as you love daydreaming about the possibility of him noticing you, it seems like that dream is slipping further and further away with each passing day.
for some reason you’ve never had a chance to get him alone to yourself outside of the occasional glance across the hallway and a quick "good morning" when your paths happened to cross, the two of you had never actually had a real conversation.
flashback to last week when the universe seemed to align just right. you'd volunteered to help carry a stack of textbooks to the front office — admittedly less because you wanted to help the teachers and more because jaehyun had volunteered first. you considered it fate. your best friend however, called it "stalking with extra steps".
he carried nearly the entire stack without you even asking, leaving you balancing only two books against your chest while he effortlessly handled the rest. it was such a small thing. barely worth mentioning. which, of course, meant you thought about it for the next four days.
this felt like the golden opportunity you had been waiting for to finally make some type of impression on him. the two of you were alone in the hallway accompanied by the comfortable silence, no interruptions. you turned slightly to face him as you walked side by side. you took a breath, mustering up any courage you had left in you. "so… there’s this new café that recently opened and i was wondering if maybe—"
but before you could even finish your thought, your words were quickly cut off as someone from another classroom called out to him, he gave you an apologetic smile before being whisked off away. just great. once again, the moment you longed for slipped right through your fingers, leaving you alone in the hallway. safe to say.. a part of you died that day.
your very last hope was the school festival.
it was your school's biggest event of the year. every class competed in different games and activities, students partnered up at random, and by the end of the day someone always walked away with bragging rights that somehow lasted until graduation. you didn't care about winning. you cared about one thing. magically getting paired with jaehyun.
each person in every class had to reach their hand in a box and pull out a certain numbered tag and attach that to their jersey. the very moment you received your number your eyes wandered everywhere to find jaehyun. soon enough you found him, his smile was hard to miss. he was across the field laughing with his group of friends, your eyes shifted down towards his jersey which had a completely different number than yours. 17.
before you could even react you felt a hand poking your back. quickly turning around in a huff, you were faced with a guy you’ve never seen before. "i think we’re partners. number 23 right?" he muttered which you gave a hesitant nod, trying to figure out who he was. then it all clicked. han taesan. the same guy who would sleep almost everyday in the back of the class, headphones practically glued onto his ears. everyone viewed him as this scary intimidating guy. this time he wore a black sporty headband that slightly raised his bangs away from his face. which in a way made him less intimidating. almost.
"yeah… i guess we are." you quietly replied with a half smile, awkwardly rubbing the back of your neck. neither of you said it out loud, but there was definitely somewhere else you'd rather be right now. the whistle shrieked across the field before either of you could force another word out, signaling every pair to gather around the first station. you let out a quiet sigh, falling into step beside taesan as the two of you made your way across the grass.
"y'know you don't have to look so disappointed." he said breaking the silence which caught you completely off guard. his hands lazily shoved into the pockets of his track pants as the two of you continued walking. "it's kinda obvious you wanted to be paired up with jaehyun judging by the way you were staring at him."
embarrassment washed over you instantly. "i wasn't staring!" you protested, though even you knew your excuse sounded painfully weak. taesan finally looked over, raising a single eyebrow before letting out a quiet hum. "you were." his answer was so matter-of-fact that you couldn't even argue back. instead, your shoulders dramatically slumped as you buried your face in your hands for a second.
"was it really that obvious?" you groaned, already knowing the answer. "to me."
a defeated sigh escaped your lips. "great. there goes any chance i had at seeming mysterious."
"were you trying to?"
"...not very successfully."
the corner of his mouth twitched ever so slightly before he looked away again. it wasn't exactly a smile, but it was enough to make you blink. so he does have facial expressions.
by the time the two of you reached the first event, teachers were already shouting instructions through megaphones while students lined themselves up along the starting lanes. you glanced at the track, then over at taesan before awkwardly clearing your throat. "just so we're on the same page…" you began, laughing a tiny bit. "i'm actually terrible at sports."
"i noticed. you got out of breath just by us walking over here." he replied glancing over at you with that same annoying blank expression. you couldn't help but scoff. "that doesn't count. i was emotionally overwhelmed."
this time, there was no denying the faint smile that tugged at the corner of his lips. it disappeared almost as quickly as it came, but you caught it anyway. "so..." you continued, pointing a finger toward him as if you were proposing the world's greatest business deal. "how about we make an agreement?"
"we don't care about winning." you shrugged as though the answer was obvious. "no unnecessary effort. we participate, survive the day, and go home. deal?"
taesan considered you for a brief moment before giving the smallest nod. "works for me. i wasn't even planning to show up anyways."
satisfied, you stuck your hand out toward him. "perfect. then let's go lose with dignity!"
he looked down at your hand for a second before reluctantly shaking it. "lose with dignity." he repeated in a flat tone, raising one hand up to show a tiny bit of enthusiasm.
unfortunately...
han taesan was either a terrible liar or the two of you had a very different definitions of losing with dignity.
the relay race began and before you even had enough time to process what was happening, taesan had already sprinted past three people. your eyes widened as he effortlessly overtook another student around the bend, his movements so smooth that he barely looked like he was exerting himself.
it made absolutely no sense. this was the same guy who slept through first period almost every morning. the same guy whose most impressive athletic achievement, as far as you knew, was successfully making it through class without getting caught using his phone under his desk.
by the time he passed the baton into your hands, you were still staring at him in disbelief.
"go!" he reminded, nodding toward the track.
"oh — right!"
you practically launched yourself forward, nearly losing your balance before somehow managing to finish your lap without embarrassing yourself too badly. the second you crossed the finish line, you bent over with your hands on your knees, desperately trying to catch your breath. meanwhile, taesan stood beside you looking as though he'd merely gone for a leisurely walk.
"you said we weren't trying!" you accused between breaths, narrowing your eyes at him.
"i wasn't."
"you passed half the field."
"they were slow."
one event became two, then somehow four. every time you convinced yourself this would surely be the event that humbled him, taesan casually proved you wrong.
archery? bullseye. dodgeball? untouchable. a freaking obstacle course? finished before you had even reached the halfway point. it eventually got to the point where you stopped contributing anything remotely useful and instead appointed yourself his overly enthusiastic cheerleader.
somehow. against every odd imaginable. you just kept winning.
the sleepy boy from the back of the classroom had unknowingly dragged the two of you all the way to the finals.
a loud whistle cut through the field as one of the teachers stepped forward with a clipboard in hand, announcing the final matchup over the speakers. "our last event will be between pair number 23..."
"...and pair number 17"
almost instinctively, your head turned.
across the field stood jaehyun, the afternoon sun catching against the loose strands of his hair as he laughed with his partner before looking toward your side of the field. the crowd erupted into excited cheers almost immediately. it wasn't every day the class president faced off against the school's resident sleeping beauty.
you slowly turned toward taesan, still trying to process how either of you had even ended up here. "i thought we agreed to lose with some dignity, get our participation trophy and go home." you murmured, unable to hide the disbelief in your voice.
his shoulders lifted in the slightest shrug. "we did."
"carrying us to the finals doesn’t seem like not trying."
"i guess i did, huh?"
a laugh escaped you before you could stop it. "well... at least we'll lose to jaehyun."
for the first time all afternoon, taesan's gaze drifted toward jaehyun before returning to you. his expression didn't change much, though something about the way his jaw tightened was almost imperceptible.
in the end, jaehyun's team ended up claiming the first place trophy exactly as everyone expected. the crowd erupted into applause while students rushed over to congratulate him and although second place wasn't exactly what you'd dreamed about that morning, you found yourself oddly content. infact you hardly ever thought about jaehyun at all. somewhere between your failed attempts at every sport and taesan's impossible ability to excel at all of them, the day hadn't turned out nearly as disappointing as you'd expected.
the festival officially came to an end, the field had slowly started clearing out. students who had spent the entire afternoon screaming at the top of their lungs were now scattered around, exhausted and sunburnt, gathering their belongings while teachers attempted to restore some kind of order. the excitement that had filled the air only an hour ago was slowly fading into the ordinary after school atmosphere you were used to.
you stood near the edge of the field, staring down at the small medal hanging around your neck. second place.
it wasn't exactly the outcome you had imagined when you woke up that morning.
you had spent weeks convincing yourself that the school festival would finally be your chance with jaehyun. just imagining what it would be like to actually talk to him beyond simple greetings that you were convinced something would happen.
maybe the two of you would end up laughing together during the event. maybe he would notice how hard you were trying. maybe, just maybe, he would finally see you as more than another classmate.
instead, you ended up spending the entire day with taesan. which wasn’t all that bad now looking back at it.
"for someone who said they didn't care about winning, you look pretty disappointed."
you turned at the sound of his voice, finding taesan standing beside you. without the sporty headband holding his hair back, he looked almost like a completely different person compared to the one who had dominated every event earlier. his hair had fallen back over his forehead, his usual tired expression returning as if the past few hours hadn't happened.
"i'm not." you quickly shook your head, though the way your voice lowered gave away that there was some truth behind his observation. "i just thought today would go differently."
you didn't have to explain your reasoning. his eyes followed yours almost immediately, landing on jaehyun across the field. surrounded by friends, laughing as he talked to someone, completely unaware of the fact that someone on the opposite side of the field had spent the entire day hoping for a single moment with him.
"you really like him, huh?" he glanced back over at you, looking like some sad puppy and all you could do was simply nod.
the silence afterward wasn't uncomfortable like it had been when you first met him. it was actually... nice. you didn't feel the need to fill every second with conversation and you found yourself realizing that maybe this was why people misunderstood him. taesan wasn't cold. he just didn't force himself into spaces where he wasn't needed.
"you're actually not as intimidating as everyone thinks you are." you admitted, looking back toward the field.
taesan glanced at you. "people think i’m intimidating?"
"very."
the conversation continued naturally after that, moving from random complaints about the festival to teasing him about how unfair it was that he was somehow good at every sport despite insisting he wasn't trying. you accused him of secretly training behind everyone's backs and he couldn't help but laugh at that, telling you that was the strangest thing he's ever heard.
after a few moments, his eyes shifted toward the drink stand nearby before looking back at you. without saying anything, he walked away, leaving you confused. you assumed he had gotten bored of you or remembered something he needed to do. the last thing you expected was for him to return a few minutes later with an iced cold bottle of soda in his hand.
"you should drink this," he said, holding it out toward you. you looked between him and the drink, confused. "you were yelling all day so i thought something cold would ease your throat a bit."
"correction. i was cheering."
taesan gave you that look before raising an eyebrow. you paused before sighing. "okay, maybe i was yelling."
you accepted the drink with a small laugh, thanking him quietly. it was a simple gesture, but you genuinely appreciated it. taesan noticed something small and did something kind without making a big deal out of it. there was no hidden meaning you searched for, no secret message you tried to decode.
before either of you could continue the conversation, your name suddenly echoed across the field.
you turned around to see your best friend, minju, standing near the entrance, waving you over with an expression that immediately told you she had been looking for you for a while. you looked back at taesan, almost reluctant to leave only because the conversation had been surprisingly enjoyable.
"i should go," you said, lifting the soda slightly. "thanks again."
taesan nodded. "see you tomorrow."
"see you."
you followed your friend away from the field, not realizing that this would probably be the last time you and han taesan would ever have a meeting like this. after today, he would probably go back to being that quiet guy in the back of the classroom, the person you greeted every morning but never took the time to get closer with.
or so you thought.
your friend didn't say anything until the two of you were far enough away from the field. the second you reached the hallway, she stopped walking and turned toward you with a look that immediately made you suspicious. you had known minju long enough to recognize that expression. it was the same one she wore whenever she had something to say, usually something you didn't want to hear but desperately needed to.
"you know what your problem is?" minju sighed, looking at you as if she was some exhausted therapist who had been listening to the same problem for months and had finally reached her limit. you narrowed your eyes, already preparing yourself for whatever lecture was coming next. "that sounds like you're about to insult me."
"because I am," she replied without hesitation.
you sighed. "of course."
she crossed her arms, looking completely serious. "you spend way too much time waiting for things to happen to you."
you blinked, tilting your head slightly. "what does that mean?"
"it means you have liked jaehyun for months, and what have you actually done?"
you opened your mouth, ready to defend yourself. then you realized you didn't have anything to say. because she was right. "i mean, i've talked to him."
"three words in the hallway don't count."
"you can't keep waiting for him to magically notice you," she continued, her voice softening slightly. the words hit you harder than you wanted them to, not because they were cruel, but because they carried a reality you had been avoiding. "jaehyun is not going to wake up one day and suddenly realize you're the love of his life because you walked past him looking pretty."
minju had always been the person who encouraged your ridiculous romantic fantasies, the person who listened to every single detail about jaehyun that you somehow considered important. she knew about every hallway glance, every small interaction, every time you came running to her because he smiled at you for half a second longer than usual. but she also knew when you were getting too comfortable just admiring someone from a distance.
she wasn't saying it to bring you down. If anything, she was saying it because she cared enough to be honest with you
"so what am I supposed to do?" you asked, finally giving in.
the smile that immediately appeared on minju's face should've been your first warning.
"leave it to me."
the next morning, your friend walked into class looking far too proud of herself. there was a mischievous smile painted across her face, the kind that immediately made you suspicious because you knew minju well enough to know that expression never meant anything normal. you barely looked up from your desk before immediately asking, "what did you do?"
instead of answering, she only smiled wider before placing her phone directly in front of you. at first, you didn't understand what you were looking at. your eyes scanned the screen, confused, until they landed on the contact name sitting at the top.
"myung jaehyun" in big bold letters.
it took everything in you to not jump out of your chair. you immediately grabbed her phone, looking at the screen again just to make sure your eyes weren't playing tricks on you. thanking her probably more times than necessary, earning an amused eye roll from her as she watched you practically treat the phone number like it was some priceless treasure
"you're acting like I just handed you a million dollars," she teased, leaning back in her chair. you looked at her completely seriously. "this is basically the same thing."
you carefully typed the number into your phone, checking every digit before saving the contact. you were so focused on making sure you didn't make a mistake that you completely missed the tiny error hiding within the numbers. one digit. one simple mistake that was so easy to overlook, especially when your excitement had completely taken over. your brain wasn't thinking about what could go wrong. for once, it was too busy imagining everything that could go right.
the classroom doors suddenly opened and before you could let yourself spiral any further into your thoughts, your head immediately snapped up at the sight of jaehyun walking through the doorway.
the second his eyes moved in your direction, you immediately shoved your phone away and stuffed it into your bag so quickly you probably looked suspicious. it felt like you had just been caught doing something illegal instead of saving a stupid contact number. you were so focused on trying to act normal that you completely missed the small smile he gave you before turning his attention back toward the class.
after that, the rest of the day passed by in a blur. it was nothing out of the ordinary, just another school day filled with teachers explaining their boring lessons, your classmates whispering whenever they thought they wouldn't get caught, and taesan remaining exactly where he always was — in the back of the classroom, completely asleep as if school was just background noise to him. nobody bothered waking him up, mostly because everyone had already accepted that trying was pointless. your mind was still stuck on the same thing, though. every few minutes, your eyes would drift toward your phone hidden inside your bag.
the very second the final bell rang, you practically ran out of the building. you didn't spend another second lingering around school because your mind was already somewhere else entirely. the second you got home, your bag was dropped onto the floor, your shoes were barely kicked off, and within minutes you were sprawled across your bed staring at the contact name glowing on your phone screen.
for some reason, you felt nervous. it was easy imagining conversations with him when he wasn't actually there. creating perfect scenarios in your head where you always knew the right thing to say. but this was real. this was a message that he would actually receive.
your thumb hovered over the keyboard for what felt like forever before you finally took a deep breath. i mean what was the worst that could happen? with one final burst of courage, you typed your first message and pressed send.
across the city, a phone buzzed.
a few minutes later, someone stepped out of the shower, towel hanging around their shoulders as they reached for their phone. they expected the usual notifications waiting for them, nothing important enough to immediately check.
until they saw the unfamiliar message.
because the person who received your first message to myung jaehyun wasn't actually jaehyun...
...it was taesan.

myung jaehyun (명재현) — lucky charm
he could never forget the first time you came to one of his soccer games. some may find it “embarrassing” for someone to chant their name as they’re holding a sign with your face plastered onto it. but jaehyun? seeing you in the bleachers being his own personal cheerleader; gave him the biggest boost of confidence. feeling proud of himself everytime he made a goal—immediately looking your way to see the smile he’s always loved. after winning, he dedicated his team’s victory to you.
the entire soccer team went off to celebrate their hard earned victory with ice cream, but the two of you chose to stay behind. standing in the middle of the soon-to-be dark soccer field, kicking the ball back and forth to each other, enjoying the comfortable silence.
“you know.. our team hasn’t been able to actually win a game in a while,” you turned to look up at him, “you might just be our lucky-charm.” he couldn’t help but cringe after saying that, avoiding your gaze. “hm.. is that so?” you teased with a smug smile across your face, before roughly kicking the ball right at him.
he looked up at you with a shocked face before roughly kicking the ball back at you, and somehow this turned into a mini soccer match. even though it was slowly turning pitch black outside, and you haven’t played soccer a day in your life. that didn’t really matter since the two of you practically dropped the game and it was just him chasing you. sharing laughters as the the two of you ran around the soccer field. he soon caught up to you wrapping his arms around your waist. trying to contain your giggles, he placed a quick kiss before whispering.
“i win.”
park sungho (박성호) — cafe dates
before you dated, sungho had a habit of going to every café he could find. tasting the food, seeing how sweet or bitter the coffee was, and the customer service. it all had to be perfect to him. as the time progressed you noticed his habit so you involuntarily invited yourself to his café runs. he was opposed to it at first, but knowing you.. that wouldn’t really stop you. and that’s how the two of you found yourselves going from café to café on your free time.
this time, he brought you to a charming little café tucked away on a tree-lined street. as you stepped inside, the inviting atmosphere embraced you like a cozy blanket, making you feel right at home. soft, golden light filtered through the large windows, illuminating the rustic wooden tables and mismatched vintage chairs that gave the space an intimate vibe.
the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, awakening your senses. when the barista served your cappuccino, it was a work of art, with delicate latte art swirling on the surface. you obviously couldn’t resist trying a flaky croissant, still warm from the oven. with every bite, you felt as though you were transported to a little slice of heaven. sungho couldn’t help but smile watching you truly enjoy the place he’s taken you to. just like he’d hope you would.
“you know… y/n do you know why i go to all of these cafés?” he broke the silence, fidgeting with his hands. “to live your dream as a food critic?” you snickered before he shook his head ‘no’. “it’s to get the perfect place to finally ask you out on.” sungho sighed at his confession coming out like this. you looked up at him with a puzzled look on your face which soon melted into a soft smile. taking his hand that rested on the table, “it’s perfect”.
lee sanghyeok (이상혁) (riwoo) — babysitting
it was time for you and riwoo’s date night, but it all came crashing down when he received a text from his mother. basically stating that she had nobody to watch his little brother while she had to attend an important event. he glanced over at you getting ready and felt horrible for having to drop your date to babysit. surprisingly you took the news pretty well and even accompanied him to his house.
“If it means I don’t have to wear these god awful heels any longer, then I’m totally fine.” you chuckled, trying to bring light to the situation. the two of you got into his car and as he was driving you felt a strong pit in your stomach. realizing that this would be the first time you’d be in the house riwoo had grown up in and for some reason that was scary.
but all of the fear washed away once you met his little brother. it wasn’t at all what you imagined and the two of you became friends quick. riwoo found himself sulking at times when you’d give his brother more attention than him. “we’d be at our date right now enjoying dinner. just us two.” he dramatically rolled his eyes, you gave him a kiss to reassure him that it was fine. and the two of you had the funnest time babysitting his brother. wouldn’t change it for the world.
han dongmin (한동민) (taesan) — piano nights
taesan was up all night trying to find a certain melody for his song. but for some reason it just wouldn’t come to him. he brought out his piano and began hitting a few keys. nothing. the sounds of the piano managed to wake you up, walking into his room that was filled with scrambled music sheets and song lyrics.
“taesan, it’s two in the morning. are you still going crazy over that one song?” you murmured, your voice thick with sleep as you rubbed the remnants of drowsiness from your eyes. he turned to face you, a look of guilt creeping onto his features as he noticed your weary state. “i’m really sorry for waking you up,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. “i just can’t seem to nail down this one melody. i promise i’ll go to bed as soon as i figure it out.” he sighed deeply, running a hand through his tousled hair, frustration etched across his brow. it was clear that he was feeling overwhelmed by the weight of his creative block. the least you could do was lend him support in this moment.
grabbing the piano, you began to play a melody you used to always enjoy as a child. taesan was visibly shocked, never even knowing you could play the piano. everything felt perfect and surprisingly matched the song he had in mind. he couldn’t help but slowly close his eyes as he swayed to the music, feeling a nostalgic vibe wash over him.
you stopped playing and looked up at him with a tired smile—since you had just woken up. the next thing you knew, taesan was cupping your face, staring at you with a dopey smile. “you’re full of talents, hm?” he softly said in a tone as quiet as a whisper before placing a kiss on your lips.
kim donghyun (김동현) (leehan) — corydoras
it was leehan’s birthday and you just couldn’t wrap your head around the fact he didn’t want to do anything special. it was just another day to him, and the only thing he was looking forward to was just taking a “nice nap”. which you weren’t fond of.
although it was hard, you convinced him to let you surprise him with something. all he was expecting was a small gift, a card even, but instead you placed a blindfold on him. holding his hand as you slowly lead him to your car. “it feels like you’re kidnapping me.” leehan joked as you gently shoved him inside the car, buckling up his seatbelt.
“ha. ha. very funny.”
the car ride was surprisingly quick as the two of you enjoyed a mini karaoke session together. once you arrived, you guided him inside. after all the anticipation, you carefully took off the blindfold to reveal the huge aquarium in front of him. knowing that leehan had a strong fascination with fish, you thought, why not take him to see a bunch of them on his birthday? although he had a small aquarium in his dorm, he hadn't visited a real aquarium in quite a while.
you both decided to spend the day exploring the aquarium, admiring the various fish and sea animals. leehan pretended to be an expert, confidently naming most of the creatures without even needing to read the labels. regardless, his plan to impress you worked.
then he spotted a huge aquarium filled with corydoras. taking your hand, he gazed at the fish with excitement sparkling in his eyes. you were more than thrilled to see him smile this big on his birthday. it’s safe to say that the two of you ended up celebrating his birthday together every year after that.
kim woonhak (김운학) — confession (inspired by 20th century girl)
the school year finally came to an end, and to celebrate, you and a few friends decided to go to the amusement park. after all, you guys deserved it. enjoying all the amazing sweets they had to offer, getting frustrated over not winning a stupid carnival game, and taking endless photos to capture the fun.
it was about time to experience all the rides, and everyone was excited as you all waited in line. all but one person. glancing over at woonhak, you noticed he looked extremely anxious, with sweat dripping down his face. he was trying to act nonchalant, his hands stuffed in his pockets.
“we don’t have to go on this ride if you don’t want to,” you whispered to him, not wanting the other friends to hear. “it’s pretty scary anyway”. he immediately shook his head in protest and insisted on going on the ride. you reluctantly backed off as you continued to wait in line.
when it was finally your turn to board the ride, relief washed over you as you found yourself seated right next to him. as the ride climbed higher, the world below grew smaller, and your pulse quickened. suddenly, just as you nearly reached the peak and could see the entire park below, he grasped your hand in a firm, trembling hold. you turned your head in surprise, caught off guard by his urgency. his breath came rapid and shallow, and with an expression that blended fear and something deeper, he shouted over the roar of the approaching drop, “i like you, y/n! the only reason i agreed to go on this dumb ride was because I didn’t want you to think i was a scaredy cat!”
before you could even fully process his confession, the ride plunged downward, and the two of you let out a collective scream that echoed through the air. the adrenaline surged through your veins, and you found yourself actually enjoying the ride. as the ride slowed and began its return to earth, he released his hold on your hand, and you could see his cheeks flushed, warmth radiating from his rosy ears. once you stepped off the ride, the lingering thrill still electrifying your senses, you turned to him and gave him a quick peck on the cheek, a playful smile dancing on your lips.
# synopsis ⋅ you write a ton of unsent love letters to your childhood crush to simply get your feelings out, but what happens once he manages to get his hands on them? (heavily inspired by tatbilb obviously)
author's note ⋅ sorry for lowkey disappearing from this account lol.. but i just finished re-watching all of the movies for the millionth time and i’m in tearsssss. i’ll try to be more active on here (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) ! maybe i’ll do a pt2 with ot6 ???
you’ve known intak for as long as you can remember. ever since the shy boy with the dimpled smile moved into the house across the street, the two of you had been joined at the hip. spending the summer chasing ice cream trucks, making up games only the two of you understood, and laughing until your stomachs hurt. every memory from your childhood had him in it.
as you got older, your friendship with him grew deeper. it was built on late-night conversations whispered between your slightly open bedroom windows. secrets shared in the quiet that only the shadows seemed to hear. feeling that familiar flutter in your chest every time he gave you one of those quick, genuine smiles. somewhere along the way, you realized you had fallen for him. hard. but the thought of losing years of friendship over something as dumb as love scared you more than rejection ever could. so you did what you’ve always been good at: you hid it.
every feeling you couldn’t say out loud found its way onto paper instead. handwritten letters. some short and sweet, others tear-stained and raw. each one beginning the same way, to: hwang intak. you sealed them all away in a glittery shoebox, tucked deep into the back of your closet. as if hiding them could somehow hide your feelings too.
years passed in a blur of exams, now, with college only weeks away, you were preparing to leave the house that held all your childhood memories — him included. of course, intak being as helpful as ever offered to help you declutter your messy room.
he was halfway through sorting your mountain of clothes when he noticed it. something glimmering beneath a pile of all your forgotten sweaters. “what’s this?” he asked, pulling out the sparkly box that had once been your safe place.
your heart stopped.
before you could reach for it, curiosity got the better of him. he lifted the lid and found the letters. each one addressed to him in your familiar messy handwriting. you could only watch as realization flickered across his face, soft and stunned all at once. silence filled the room as he picked one up, unfolding it carefully.
“to: hwang intak…” he read softly, the words trembling between you.
you wanted to run. to snatch the letters back and laugh it off as a big joke. but then he looked up — eyes meeting yours with a mix of wonder and something you’d never seen before.
“i wish you’d told me sooner,” he murmured, voice barely above a whisper. “because… i think i’ve been writing my own letters too. just… not on paper.”
and for the first time, the distance between you felt smaller than ever.

it was a cold winter afternoon, and most of your days were filled with the scent of musty books and the faint sound of the heater struggling to keep the bookstore warm. you spent countless hours behind the wooden register of your parents’ little bookstore, hunched over your textbooks as you prepared for the upcoming exams. if you were being honest with yourself, your life was pretty boring. the same familiar faces came in and out of the store, every interaction felt predictable, and excitement seemed like a distant memory. hell, the only thing that interested you in this store was when it stocked multiple copies of your favorite book series.
that is, up until the moment the door chimed, signaling the entrance of a new customer. you glanced up, a reflexive gesture honed by countless hours in customer service. when your gaze met his, your breath caught in your throat. he was undeniably beautiful—his tousled dark hair that slightly covered his black-framed glasses, and his soft pink lips took you by surprise. in that instant, your usual greeting for customers became tangled in your throat, leaving you staring at him like some creep. he awkwardly offered a nod and moved further into the store, you were entranced for a brief moment, heart racing so loud it could probably be heard by everyone in the store.
a few minutes later, after gathering a stack of books that leaned precariously in his arms, he approached the checkout counter where you stood. the air was thick with tension, an unspoken awkwardness hanging between you, and you couldn’t quite place why it felt so heavy. sure he was attractive, but i mean.. you just met the guy. “are you new to this town? i don’t think i’ve seen you around here before.” you asked, hoping to break the silence as you scanned each book’s barcode with a quick beep.
“yeah… i just moved into the apartment complex down the street not too long ago,” he replied, his eyes briefly flickering with surprise at the sudden small talk. “i had no idea there was a bookstore in the area. i thought i’d stop by and see what it was like.”
as he spoke, his awkwardness seemed to fade, and he began to passionately rant about his love for books, sharing the titles of his favorite authors and the genres he adored. you found yourself drawn in by his enthusiasm, and the flow of the conversation became comfortable. spending hours talking about whatever came to mind. the pile of books you had just finished checking out, along with your countless textbooks, now sat neatly on the side of the counter.
the two of you were soon interrupted by the soft chime from the door, signaling the entrance of another customer. you blinked, snapping out of your trance, realizing how much time had slipped away. with a rush of energy, you quickly gathered all of his books and packed them into a complimentary branded tote bag. “it was really nice talking to you.” you said, your voice full of warmth as you flashed a bright smile. he returned your grin, his eyes twinkling with appreciation as he accepted the bag, the faint scent of his cologne lingering in the air between you.
as he stepped outside, the door swung shut behind him, and a sudden wave of realization washed over you—you hadn’t even thought to ask for his name. you smacked your forehead in disappointment, annoyed at yourself for getting too carried away. ‘what if he doesn’t come back?’ was all that ran through your mind. nonetheless, you helped the next customer with their books, feeling a heavy pit in your stomach.
days turned into weeks, and those weeks morphed into months, leaving you right back where you started… stuck in the boring life you’ve always been in. all you could think about was that tantalizing encounter with the mystery guy—his soft smile and piercing gaze haunted your thoughts. with exams behind you, the moments felt painfully stagnant. the business was slow anyways, so you allowed yourself a small break. leaning against the cold, polished counter, exhaustion washed over you, and soon you found yourself drifting off, eyes closed to the world around you.
a few hours slipped by, the peaceful calm of the shop interrupted by that damn door chime once again. startled awake, you hastily composed yourself, your heart racing as you turned to greet the customer. and there he was—the mystery guy, looking even more captivating than you remembered. the surprise caught you off guard, and in an instant, you leapt from your chair, shock coursing through your veins as you stared at him, unable to believe your eyes. all you wanted to do was ask him where the hell he had been, but you barely known each other and didn’t want to come off like some weirdo.
he glanced up at you, a charming, crooked smile playing on his lips. “i’ve been beating myself up for not asking for your number before i left that day,” he confessed, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his hoodie. “life just got so chaotic, but i really wished i could’ve spent another day chatting with the beautiful girl behind the counter.” blood rushed to your cheeks, leaving you momentarily speechless, struggling to find the right words in response to that.
“don’t think i’ve introduced myself, but i’m yoon keeho,” he paused taking a quick glance over at the name tag pinned on your sweater, “it’s nice to meet you again, y/n.”

despite the fact that neither of you had ever stepped foot on an ice rink, the two of you somehow found yourselves out ice skating. it all started when intak insisted on trying it out after getting yet another couple's ice skating video popping up on his feed. you shamelessly gripped onto the side railings for dear life, afriad of falling face-first onto the ice, while intak on the other hand was starting to get the hang of it—letting go of the railings. watching him skate so freely gave you a bit of confidence making you think, 'if it's so easy for him, why not try it myself?' wrong. the first few moments after letting go of the railings were going quite well up until your legs began to wobble, struggling to maintain any balance you had.
*thud*
intak glanced back over his shoulder, his eyes widened as he spotted you sprawled onto the ice. in that moment, a wave of panic washed over him, uncertainty flooding his mind. he couldn't exactly tell if you were either sobbing in frustration or doubling over with laughter. but when he caught sight of the radiant smile breaking across your face, a sense of relief washed over him, and he couldn't help but join in on your laughter. "let's stick to the railings this time, okay?" he laughed, his voice lightening with humor, as he extended a hand to help you up. taking his hand, you got back on your feet.
this time, however, he grasped your hand with a firm grip, his fingers interlocking with yours, afraid that you might stumble on the ice again. admittedly, you weren't entirely sold on his ice skating idea at first, but now, beneath a canopy of twinkling fairy lights that draped overhead like a starry night, and accompanied by the soft romantic tune drifting through the air; you found it hard to imagine being anywhere else.
the world seemed to slowly fade away as if it were just the two of you in the rink. each time you nearly lost balanced, laughter erupted between you. the sharp cold air nipped at your cheeks and nose, yet the warmth of his embrace wrapped around you like a cozy blanket, filling you with a sense of comfort. everything was simply perfect.
