I've experienced this firsthand when exploring public spaces on VRChat. In the past month I've been told, by younger users:

get a job

I'm old

"unc", "boomer", etc.

Things that are innocuous in hindsight because teens don't know better. I have also been told:

I'm easily identified as an adult because I talk to other users with respect

I'm safe to approach when there's chaos/someone feels uncomfortable in the public instances

and that honestly holds more weight than any digs I get for my age.

I know it doesn't mean anything in the long run, but I sincerely hope that by being an approachable adult in public fan spaces, I can help mitigate conflicts presented to me, and I can be a physical reminder that, even when you graduate school and start to shoulder adult responsibilities, you can still have the whimsy.
