right off the bat making me think of really interesting questions like "is the cannonball he weighed down that bundle of clothes with the same one they used to bash his head in" and "would they have kept that on the ship and if not what did they do with it" and "how similar in shape were cannonballs to each other in the 1700s like how good was cannonball making technology would there have been a way to tell them apart" i used to live like ten miles from a shot tower i should know more cannonball trivia
"is that... twine?" "yeah i didn't know what i was doing but i thought it looked like it needed a little flourish so i just put some twine on there" "no you were right to do that i think it makes it" you don't understand how much i love you two
"nice to see this ship wasn't the only thing to get... decked ;)" SIR???? IT'S LIKE 6AM????
wow i have never seen a clock that was so obviously a bomb before in my life
"we didn't pay!!" (manic giggling as they mad dash away)
maybe im late in realizing this but doesn't the name "republic of pirates" imply that they have a system of government with an elected leader? republics don't have a queen so zheng isn't in charge here. is jackie the pirate president and if so why is her main gig owning a bar
oh speaking of zheng here's my confirmation that those three are not in fact all dating each other. oh well
"yeah, family who fucked!" holy shit actually
pls don't tell me they're going to do a whole "fame goes to one person's head and the other person gets jealous" thing
oh ok wait it... doesn't appear that they are doing that! fantastic carry on
hey perhaps the advice "don't finish any of the drinks anyone gives you" would be better replaced with "don't drink anything a stranger gives you at a bar you dumbass boy"
"paperazzi" was such a dumb bit but it made me giggle more than was reasonable
"this is my signature cocktail. it's sweet and spicy, like my wife" i forgot how much i missed this man
In Which Stede Is Getting Cocky Again: This Can Only End Poorly
ed is so uncle iroh coded rn and as someone who aspires to similar things i am living for it. yes please retire from your life of exhausting drama and violence that never quite fit right and become a small business owner doing what you're passionate about
"oh by the way i'm leaving" is actually crazy how did you think that was going to go over dummy
"fucking off, sir" izzy remains my favorite
izzy giving stede advice on how to best connect with ed is character growth at its finest
again, just the most bomb-like clock of all time
olu reaching across the table for her hand was so corny and awkward and it was everything
god the five seconds of "ah fuck i should have seen this coming lemme adjust to this new normal real quick" on jim's face when he said he was leaving with zheng broke my brain
oh god fucking dammit don't duel her there's no way you get out of this without looking like a fool
i adore the fight choreography in this show and the bar fight was incredible in so many ways but also the simplicity of her beating him with a 2x4 while he tried to crawl away was hysterical
I FUCKING TOLD YOU IT WAS A BOMB
where do they find these actors man. this hurts so much
ed is just living life over here man. he's henry david thoreau fr. especially once you find out he's being a freeloader and kind of a poser
"control your pop-pop! control him!" the only moment in my life i've ever wished i hadn't watched arrested development
i think one of the british soldiers went "maybe he lost his hearing from the explosion" as ed was staring at the wreckage and all you could hear was the ringing in his ears. if so that is peak comedy
"things always seem to work out. for me, i mean" you're halfway to acknowledging the privilege you were born with and all the way acknowledging the fact that god won't let you die so for that i applaud you
zheng tightening her pigtails was such a nice little detail
imagine crawling out of the sea dressed head to toe in soaking wet black leather. actually don't imagine it it physically hurts to imagine it
"YOU WROTE ME A LOVELY LETTER!!!"
it's "hanged" actually in this context so fuck you. prince of failing middle school english. goddamn.
that was too aggressive my bad. he is trying to kill them tho so like not that bad on my part
"being a pirate is about belonging somewhere when the world told you that was impossible... go ahead! kill us all. we'll live on long after you're all gone. because we're good, and you're an entitled, syphilitic cunt." i cannot scream the word "catharsis" loud enough to do this scene justice. america in 2025 is so fucking shitty. but no matter how much legislation gets passed that tells us to stop existing, love lives on.
THE PARALLELS TO THE DREAM IN E1!!!!! running across the beach but this time they don't smack into each other at full speed, they talk like normal people, they're just holding onto each other and kissing and saying i love you and i am losing my mind
"so that's the plan!" "no that's a suicide mission" "it's only suicide if we die!"
they all look so fantastic in the soldiers' uniforms tho. costume design in this show is peak
um?? he got shot?? oh fuck wait he just said "i'm fine" holy shit they're killing him off for real
"eddie, just sit with me." FUCK YOU
"you're good now... you're surrounded by family. they all love you. just be ed." BITCH DON'T DO THIS TO ME
fucking hell that was real crying. y'all keep telling me to watch "boy" if i want to see more of taika waititi doing trauma-based acting and now i am very afraid to
"i now pronounce you... mateys!" what a wild tonal shift from the death and burial of my favorite character to this objectively adorable wedding. can't say i don't appreciate it tho
aww the triumphant arms up wedding kiss was so damn cute
ok no jokes here. no funny business, no writing in all caps. i need you to believe me when i say this. usually when i say "i'm crying" i mean it metaphorically or as hyperbole. it's just a way of saying "i am feeling emotions" without having to use so many words. when i saw stede and ed standing on the porch looking out over the sea, my jaw genuinely dropped. when he said "i guess we're innkeepers now," i quite literally started sobbing. i had to sit up in bed in an effort to make sense of what was happening and all i could do was sit there and cry. holy shit, guys. they're innkeepers now. i'm getting teary again as i'm writing this. i don't have words to even say how much comfort there was in that ending. to know that yes, the others are off traveling the world and seeking vengeance, but it's okay for stede and ed to make peace with how things have been. they just need to worry about each other. no more blackbeard, no more gentleman pirate. they're both giving up so much for each other and they're doing it gladly. love is real.
yeah watch out for an essay on that topic coming soon bc good god do i have more to say
also - obviously if they make more of this show i will watch it, but that was such a natural ending point. i never feel that way when something ends. i hate endings. but this was perfect. god. hats off to you all.
