Alright guys, it's PSA time. GO GET YOUR PETS MICROCHIPPED!!! It doesn't matter if they're indoor, outdoor, or both. Tweed is an outdoor cat, definitely knows where home is, and always wears a collar. But last year I got him chipped just to be safe-- maybe he loses his collar and someone takes him in thinking he needs a home, maybe he gets injured and someone takes him to the vet, maybe we go somewhere and he escapes, etc. Everyone said it was stupid and a waste of money because we've never had any problems. Then about 3 months ago, he had to get some teeth removed. I brought him to my place (he usually lives with my parents) so I could keep an eye on him and give him his pain medicine and antibiotics. Every thing was going great, then he escaped. I went around the block calling for him, talked to neighbors, posted fliers, posted on numerous websites, the whole nine yards. He also just got a brand new collar and tag, so I thought for sure I'd be getting a call. Then yesterday morning, more than two months after he had gone missing, I got a call from a vet office saying that they found my cat. The lady who found him had been feeding him and fell in love and was going to take him home, but wanted to stop and see if he had a chip first. Of course, Tweed had decided to go lose his collar. Luckily she was still there when I went to pick him up, so I got to thank her for taking such good care of him and finding me (I will always be in her debt!) So yeah, it doesn't matter if your pet never goes outside or always goes outside, get them chipped!! It's the reason I got my baby back after I thought he was gone for good. It's so cheap (his was only $15), and it is something you will NEVER regret.
