Something something. Conan constantly addressing Akai-san by his real name even when the guy is in full Okiya Subaru disguise because his personal experience with having to hide his identity revolves around massive discomfort and powerful dissonance between who he is and who he has to be. He is Conan because he was forced to without warning, because it was the only option, and he yearns for each and every moment someone calls him by his real name. His fake identity is a prison and he assumes it's the same for Akai-san who has to be Okiya Subaru almost constantly. In using Akai-san's real name he is extending a kindness that he himself cannot receive from more than a handful of people behind closed doors, all for a man whose experience is actually wildly different from his. Okiya Subaru is part of the job, yes, but he is not a burden to Shuuichi the way Edogawa Conan clearly is to Kudou Shinichi. Unlike Edogawa Conan, Okiya Subaru was a choice.
