Here is my story:

It was 2018, religion class with my very old religion teacher. I was wearing my Interactive Introverts hoodie on a dress down day. Then a classmate decided to loudly ask why my sweatshirt had “a weird sentence on it.” We we’re twelve at the time (most of them didn’t know what introvert meant).

I explained, quietly, that it was a YouTube thing. Dan and Phil. British. Internet men that lived together. That definitely weren’t gay…seriously they had said so. (Not that I would have cared but im sure my old hag of a religion teacher would have).

The side conversation drew the attention of my religion teacher and she demanded that I share with the class my side conversation “that was apparently more important than Jesus”

I panicked and said that nothing was more important than Jesus except Dan and Phil to me at the time. I then essentially gave a quick panicked oral presentation on Dan and Phil and Internet “Culture.” I also quickly explained the meaning behind interactive introverts, and what it was about. All in front of a group of judgmental 12-year-olds who probably already thought I was strange sat right under a giant crucifix.

Regardless, after the whole thing, my teacher looked pissed and said “You should focus more on God and his plan for you instead of strange man on the Internet.”

She was probably right in someways, my brain chemistry has definitely been altered, but I don’t care. Nine years later and I still love this place and community lol <3

Anyways, that was my foundational trauma and now I am bisexual and going to school to be a High School English teacher at 21 years old! (Phanny to bisexual teacher pipeline should be studied btw, there are A LOT of us apparently).

Someone has probably already said this, but I realized that Colin never dances in Season 3 until it’s with Penelope. And we even get two hints as to the gravity of that symbolism through Benedict:

one, when Miss Stowell corners Benedict into a dance but Colin can’t be convinced by any of the other ladies to get on the floor (even when they overtly try after the balloon rescue), and

two, when Will Mondrich makes that comment about “one dance and you’ve signaled you are available”.

Colin was completely genuine in his disinterest in the marriage mart this season and stood on business by explicitly refusing to dance with anyone outright. Which means, in the previous seasons, he totally understood what dancing with Penelope would look like, and he did it anyway. (Because he loved her already and didn’t mind the insinuation, obvs.)

In fact, the only time he gets on the dance floor before getting engaged is to interrupt Penelope and Debling — another subtle signal that he was thrusting himself into the marriage mart, but only if it was going to be with Penelope. Not to mention, man couldn’t stop dancing the very second he was engaged to her.

Anyway, my point is, Colin’s been in love with Pen forever and to them, dancing is a far more intimate an act than it has been to any other couple and I love them for it.
