Is it really any wonder that Jonathan Byers is insecure about being second best when his literal mother disregards him in favour of his younger brother?

Jonathan has done everything to support his mum and his brother, and he's always put Nancy and her feelings above his own dreams.

For example, we know he's had a dream to go to NCU since he was a young child, but he was going to throw thay away to go to college with Nancy, and then spiralled when he realised he couldn't even do that because he wanted to stay closer to home to support Joyce, Will and El.

For Steve to poke at him and call him a "paranoid, pothead, weirdo" was below the belt, and it showed that he hasn't really grown up at all since school.

Jonathan has always been insecure - he's lonely, he's traumatised, and he's doing his absolute best for everyone in his family. His anxieties are so valid, and so real, and I love him.

Jonathan loves Nancy more than he cares for himself, and I really hope that they get to stay together.
