Larcom Theatre | Beverly, MA | 05.23.15

On a recent day trip to Beverly, I wandered off my usual path on Cabot St and found The Larcom Theatre. I only heard about this place from Caspian playing a show here. I had no idea it was this fantastic--opened in 1912, restored by a troupe of magicians in the 1980s, and boasting a history featuring motion pictures and magic shows. Lucky for me some guys working inside left the front door open. Thanks and also for sharing the story of the theatre! I loved all the peacocks and the painted type on the seats.

Maroon Island

I found it an appropriate time to document my studio apartment and its current state. I upgraded my camera a few months back and also snagged a 28mm wide angle lens, the right size to capture my tiny home. Additionally, Apartment Therapy was calling for entries to their annual Small Cool Contest 2015, highlighting homes less than 1000 sq ft. I woke up early for the best daylight pooling in to the studio, cleaned, staged, sketch storyboarded, and finally photographed my apartment. I was impressed how diligent I was in organizing and de-cluttering throughout the process. Much to my disappointment, the editors of Apartment Therapy don’t allow every entry to post. That makes sense right? I would have to wait to see if my apartment was picked, but saw no reason why it wouldn’t be. It’s been a week and still no email from the editors. So what...it’s not overly designed, nor does it resemble a catalog home, like the homes they frequently tend to feature. My studio is a real lived in space. This is what a 1930s building in the oldest city in America is all about--hardwood floors, high ceilings, classic moldings, peeling paint, a decorative radiator, bay windows, and the crown jewel, a clawfoot tub.

Birthday Adventure 2014: A peek into the Edward Gorey House & Museum. The Elephant House is on Strawberry Lane in Yarmouth Port, MA. A truly hidden gem, the house is filled with a carefully curated collection of Gorey's things--jewelry, books, sketchbooks, photographs, maps, trinkets, decks of tarot cards, and even his signature fur coat (he had 22 fur coats in total). I only know his work, books and drawings, since about 2000. I had no idea what he was about before entering the house. All that he collected is mirrored in his work. And there's more secrets to be uncovered. I will be back soon....

Restorations | Great Scott, Allston, MA 11.09.14

The ending to my night of seeing 3 shows in one night. Restorations is always a solid choice and the nicest bunch of guys. Former members of Jena Berlin, I've know Jon Loudon since the days of WonkaVision Magazine. I started my evening at Great Scott for their soundcheck and to drop off some homemade parsnip fries.

As I leave my apartment to walk up the street to go vote, I hope others in my second home are voting too. I'm not much in to politics, but I know everyone has a right to be part of making change. If you live in Asbury Park, please vote to keep small business and community alive. I hear It's going to be a close one.

The Vlad | High Seas Open Roads 2014 

Last week, I had the opportunity to photograph one of the helmets from High Seas Open Roads (see previous post for more info). The Vlad helmet is truly a one of a kind, very special, AND it's wearable. Handcrafted and sewn from individual pieces of denim, Vlad of Sweet Joeys told me it took him 7 hours to complete. Crazy right?! I remember getting the bidding started the night of the auction and battling it out for awhile with another girl. It was my favorite one naturally, I clad myself in denim quite often, but I also knew the amazing and talented gentleman who made it. Vlad Pisch! If you look closely you'll see the winner in one of the photos....it's ME!
