Being a Ukrainian is waking up and reading about family of scientists showing their home that had been hit in recent attack, and the archive they collected up from XIXth century burned down completely.
It's eating breakfast and reading about a whole family that was killed by ruzzian drone in their own house. An engaged couple that was to be married next week, his parents and his sister. All dead.
It's taking a break, and seeing the news of a 10y.o. girl whose heart stopped. Her body sustained 70% of burns, and she fought hard, but ruzzia still killed her.
It's about a whole street in Sumy being in ruins after aerial bomb ruzzians send. It's seeing a mess of glass and debris left by a Shahed in the apartment of a young mom. It's constant torrential downpour of victims from Kherson, Nicopol, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Donetsk region. It's horror stories from occupation and captivity.
And then I hear "we are going to war! To get concert tickets". And I hear "ruzzian games are weird and fun!" And "oh, that new tv show/movie featuring ruzzians is so cool!", and another celebrity in some way shows a support for the fuckers that we see do monstrous things every day.
Ukrainians are not too radicalised. No. It's you who are not radicalised enough.
you've met me at a very "yeah i'm trying to work on that" time in my life
i don't forgive you. but thank you for this
‼️In Kharkiv, 5 rescuers from the State Emergency Service were killed while extinguishing a fire as a result of a repeated Russian attack. At least 5 more were injured.
russians hit Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex, which is basically a christian heart of Kyiv and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, right in the building with the altar. They hit Mystetskyi Arsenal National Art and Culture Museum Complex right across the street from Lavra. They hit an art museum in Kharkiv. They hit The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, destroying the biggest costume collection in Ukraine. They hit the House of Organ and Chamber Music in Dnipro.
All of this in one day (the biggest attack occured at night).
russians hitting important cultural buildings is nothing new, they destroyed countless of churches and museums, but this night feels like they were targeting specifically everything significant to ukrainian culture and identity. And after that they and their supporters dare to say "where's your culture? you have none".
Art and culture is NEVER out of politics. THIS is why we're so mad when westerners keep praising anything related to russian culture itself. While people are praising their culture, russians are actively stealing and destroying ours.
So the best thing you can do is shift the focus towards Ukrainian culture along with the cultures of nations that also suffered from russia and support our artists.
the only way to tell if a man is truly gentle is if he has green moss and algae all over him from sleeping quietly, motionlessly, at the bottom of a crystal clear riverbed
поряд, не поруч
поруч, не поряд
[no beers in] do you think im ever going to belong somewhere
ever since i was a little girl i always dreamed of becoming a provincial warlord
Donetsk region, Ukraine, Serhii Korovayny, 2025
This is Donetsk region of Ukraine. As of summer 2025, Ukraine controls about one third of it. But this is not just a map line or a patch of land. It is home for many. Here, bread is baked in the mornings. Children grow up under the watch of their parents. Dogs curl up next to their owners. Fruits and vegetables ripen quietly in gardens. On warm evenings, kids fight fierce battles on football fields. People swim in sunlit lakes. Some cities, like Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka, have lost almost all signs of life. The Russian army came too close, taking away their safety. Yet they are still held by Ukrainian forces. Other cities, like Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, live a life that feels almost peaceful. Rumors say that American President Donald Trump may be negotiating with Putin about withdrawing Ukrainian troops from the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk region. Such a thing must never happen. This is Donetsk region. It belongs to Ukraine. And it is not for trade or sale.
keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it's immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like "yeah so this is going to happen to the internet" and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don't even get paid for it
the artemis ii mission reminds me why i love humanity so much. they play pink pony club for the astronauts. they have issues with microsoft outlook. one of the astronauts named a moon crater after his late wife. a jar of nutella just flew by. they make 67 memes because they’re big nerds with huge hearts who say that we look beautiful from there. they call dibs on sleeping arrangements and the mission specialist likes sleeping like a bat. the pilot’s daughter shows her dad off on her social media.
dunno just sometimes helps to think that we can do things like that.
(voice of a guy who experienced a minor inconvenience) fuck my whole entire life
just wanted to say that you are cute and the fog is not coming. you are beautiful and you really do not have to worry about the fog because it's not coming. The fog wouldn't even be a problem if it was coming, it isn't though, and you are very pretty
“are you ok?” no but I’m funny
