Chapter I Henry’s been different, lately. He has been ever since he rescued Hans from Maleshov, but now even more so since he returned from Sigismund’s camp. Since he beat the Devil and refused to put the torch to a sleepy little town, too much like the one Skalitz must have been, once. Hans watches the change, and wonders how he can approach the man who seems to think that all burdens must be shouldered alone.

But when a captured Otto von Bergow refuses to speak and the Pack finds itself without a plan of action, maybe there’s an opportunity there, in disguise – Hans has always wanted to see Kuttenberg, and maybe Henry can relax without the mantle of duty weighing so heavily on his shoulders. Except, someone’s been asking around for Henry – asking for him by name.

Henry leans ever so slightly closer; he’s still watching Hans. Staring at him. Inexplicably, Hans’ heart kicks in his chest, and his pulse races. “...What were you thinking, Sir? Did you want to go hunting again?”

No, that’s not what he wants. “I’ve had enough hunting for the time being,” he breathes. His mouth is suddenly so terribly dry – where is the wine when he needs it? “Maybe when the ground dries up… What about some alchemy? You promised me proper lessons.”

“Aye. I think we can arrange something.” Henry’s gaze is dark and heavy. Something buzzes, hums, across Hans’ skin. Part II of Better Living through Alchemy. Part I Peripeteia

"Teach me, eh?" Hans climbed over him, leveraging his weight to press Henry's body further into the ground and planting his lips against Henry's brow as he spoke. He traveled lower, a loving assault that ended just below his chin.
