We went out to dinner tonight with a friend Iâve known since 6th grade, because heâs about to move out of the country again. Once everyone finished eating, the other people in the group started trying to figure out where they should go next (ie, which bar to tell another person to meet them at), and he just turned to me and said, âDo you want to come? Because this has been an acceptable amount of social interaction already, I promise.â
That right there is how to be a good friend to your introvert.
Welcome to Australia...
Where an already endangered species is on the brink of functional extinction...
Oh, and 500 million animals unique to this country have already lost their lives, upon homes that have been destoryed and lives lost of people as well...
I mean... we're only living in a literal inferno...
415 fires. Fuck are we dying...
Oh yeah and people are just fleeing to the damn ocean, you know?
Do you want to know what Hell on Earth looks like..?
Because there it is in all it's unfiltered, firey rage...
There it is... my home from space...
This is only the beginning. Our country has not only entered a new decade, it seems a new dawning era as well, because this flaming apocalypse doesn't show any sign of stopping any time soon.
And you know what saddens me? I've never seen Australian tragedies trending here on this website. I mean it's been going on for months and only now does it seem to really be getting recognized, even if it is only at #9.
And I'm going to be honest with you here - the internet, and media in general is so American centric, this website being no exception. You'd think that an entire continent being on fire for several months with devastating consequences would have more recognition, but no, it really doesn't. The most notes I've ever seen on a post about the Australian fires is at least a few thousand, and that's about it.
So just... please. If you can, with this post or any other post in regards to the fires going on down here, reblog. Because the only thing that should be spreading like wildfire, is a post about a burning country...
I donât think The Good Place gets enough credit for the diversity of its cast. The main romantic lead is a black man from Senegal who is allowed to be as nerdy as he wants. In fact, his nerdiness is the saving grace of the main character. The character that is often considered to be the pinnacle of beauty on the show is a woman of Indian descent who is not super light skinned. Another character is a Filipino man who, while incredibly stupid, can be incredibly perceptive and offers loving emotional advice and is described as incredibly sexually-desirable. The all-knowing judge on the show, considered to be the most powerful character as of the season three finale, is a black woman. The main character is canonically sexually attracted to both men and women and (while it hasnât been canonically confirmed yet) is probably at the very least bisexual, if not pansexual. She also regularly talks about how she loved to sleep around and is never slut-shamed for either her sexuality or her fondness for sex. And thatâs just in the core cast. Thereâs also a black female neuroscientist who gets several episode long arcs in both season 3 and (about to be) season 4. Not to mention the supporting cast and guest characters feature several people of color, while the main villains are mostly old, white men.
And all of these characters are actual characters! Even the small parts where a side character may only be in an episode or two results in really developed and fleshed out characterizations. Also, the characterizations donât fall into the trap of stereotypes to make them more likeable!!
But while all of this diversity is amazing, the show also manages to make it feel organic. Thereâs no tokenism or show-boating. Itâs never a âlook, the main love interest is a black man!!!!! Weâre so woke!!!!!!!â. Itâs genuine diversity built from a place of love and understanding and idk, I just think that the show deserves a lot of credit for taking such an amazing concept and using it to build such a diverse world with such in depth characters. Itâs a nice change.
Not to mention itâs a philosophical masterpiece thatâs obviously written by philosophy and ethics enthusiasts, and has some deep philosophy jokes that youâll only get after studying philosophy⊠which youâll probably want to do after watching The Good Place.
And all of this stuff is mainly discussed by the aforementioned POC in the show.
Thereâs a female lead, sure, but instead of being the often annoying âwhite saviorâ the show flips that trope around (or throws it out I canât decide which is more apt) and makes her into the audience surrogate. Sheâs the âwhite studentâ if you will, who is learning how to be a better person from a black man.
Go watch The Good Place dammit. Itâs great, AND itâs a philosophical masterpiece.
There are some very self-aware moments about their casting policies, but instead of being preachy, theyâre hilarious. Like this one:Â

my cat, who can still see perfectly, watching as I bump into a table: Ah, she has toggled the switch that controls whether she is stupid.
I need to ask you about the song. The one that stucks into your head.
taking off my bra, puting on a big t-shirt, and crawling into bed at the end of the day is very sexy of me if I do say so myselfÂ
me but at 2 in the afternoon after like running one errand
ok same
Me, using PC: Thereâs nothing interesting on the big Internet.
Me, picking up phone: Letâs see whatâs on the tiny Internet.

They look so comfortable
babies omgggggggg
WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT
YOU COULD BE A FUCKING BADASS DRAGON THATâS THE POINT
âI AM A CREATURE OF DARKNESSâ âoh hey sabrina.â
I guess the point is that you could shapeshift into the body you always thought youâd grow into when you were a kid
taller, shorter, slimmer, more muscular, purple hair, tattoos everywhere, tattoos nowhere,Â
every single shoe would fit you every single time you tried it on, every single article of clothing would fit your perfectly, all you have to do is transform slightly, youâd never run out of âyour sizeâ again
and you wouldnât have to work for it at all, and youâd never be limitted by your bone structure or something. You could just transform at will.
I donât see how this is much of a downside
When you turn into a sixty story tentacle demon and terrorize a city you want to get the credit you deserve
Oh man that would be so sweet. I could be an annoying fuck as an insect or something but you couldnât kill me because everyone would know
Thatâs great but have you considered

imagine being at work minding your business and then suddenly you look out the window and see like a 50ft tall flamingo and then someone just says âoh, yeah, thatâs just pete, he does this sometimes, donât worryâ
âBRB, gonna be a cat-sized dragon for a few hours. Might come home a foot taller with mood tattoos.â
âDonât antagonize the fae.â
âI AM the fae, Susan.â
they really gave us a female lead in a star wars movie & made her kind and good and angry and powerful and complex & then spent the next 2 movies revolving almost her entire storyline around a white male war criminal who abused her, abused her friends, abused her family. all the while validating all the people who romanticized gaslighting and torture. for fan service lmaoÂ
they also gave us a strong black male lead who was kind and rebelled against his entire way of life when he saw the atrocities he was expected to take part in. He risked his life to save others and was shown to love and care deeply for his friends and willing to sacrifice himself to save him. Then the next two movies infantilize him to be this weak self preserving side character with literally no agency beyond yelling other characterâs names.
They also gave us a Latino sci-fi hero who was an ace fighter pilot with a heart of gold and a wealth of courage who showed an incredible amount of support and kindness and trust towards a man who he had just met. Then the next two movies relegated him to being a chronic fuck-up and then ret-conned his ace pilot backstory in service of a racist drug dealer backstory to make him more like Han Solo
So Iâve only seen TFA and I think Iâm gonna keep it that way
dude seeing these Mega high quality images of the surface of mars that we now have has me fucked up. Like. Mars is a place. mars is a real actual place where one could hypothetically stand. Also: Comet 67P/ChuryumovâGerasimenko
So itâs not quite snowing on ChuryumovâGerasimenko, unfortunately; the white specks are artifacts of cosmic rays impinging on the CCDs in the camera, as well as a rotating starfield in the background (since the comet is spinning). A few specks could be dust. But, holy shit, thatâs the surface of a comet. Thatâs a spot you could in theory cling to for dear life sit down on. The Cliffs of Comet 76p are a place.Â
If that isnât the neatest shit I donât know what is.
On July 1942, 2, most of the children of Lidice, a small village in what was then Czechoslovakia, were handed over to the gestapo office of the gestapo.
These 82 children were then transported to the of extermination camp 70 kilometers away. Once they arrived, they were gassed to death. This remarkable sculpture by Marie UchytilovĂĄ commemorates this massacre.
A group of Bronze Sculptures, paying tribute to the children who died. Its construction was decided in 1969 by the woman sculptor, Marie Uchytilova. As a symbol of an imaginary tomb of the 13 million most innocent victims of the war - children, she chose as model, 82 children of lidice asphyxiated in the gas rooms of chelmno.
She took 20 years to make this beautiful sculpture because she used the vintage documents to reproduce the faces of the missing children and to represent them according to their exact size.
