this video has been the last hinge holding me together for weeks now. I need to watch it once a day or I'll start disintegrating
My husband made this video his wake-up alarm so every morning I hear it right before he wakes up and it brings me joy.

“hallelujah” by leonard cohen being played as an easter and christmas song, “zombie” by the cranberries” being played as a halloween song, and “born in the U.S.A.” by bruce springsteen being played as a Fourth of July/generic us patriotism song have got to be a special trifecta of the most no-listening-comprehension musical moments that happen on seasonal playlists every single year
I finally gave in and read a “Baseball for Beginners” article today (ahead of my first opportunity to watch a whole WPBL game uninterrupted by medical appointments) and the article I stumbled across included the most incredible sentence I have ever read about sport, or possibly anything:
It's true, there's no clock.
But also this is in fact how baseball fans talk about baseball. It's full of semi-religious language and mythological stories. It's also mostly about loss. (Especially if you're from Montréal. Or Boston. Or both. Both is me.)
one of my favorite moments in hockey is when there’s just equipment scattered on the ice like the players evaporated and that’s all that was left

i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bush’s war on Iraq, so I think that.
I don't know about a news story, but my first "political" memory was something about the torture memos
So it was the White Bronco chase, June 17, 1994. I was six years old. Now you may be thinking "isn't six a bit young to be paying attention to the news?" and you'd be right, if this wasn't one of the central events of the DuPont family mythos.
So here's the story. My mom was born in 1965 in Buffalo, NY. And the neighborhood that she lived in, with my grandparents and her three siblings, happened to be the same neighborhood that a bunch of the Buffalo Bills players lived in. Yeah.
And they would have parties and stuff, and everyone in the neighborhood would be invited, including these star football players. And sometimes they would even show up. So there's this photo my parents have from my mom's fifth birthday, where she's sitting on OJ's lap. Wild.
Anyway, 2 decades pass, I'm born, June 17, 1994 comes along. And it's Friday and we've all had a family dinner and my grandfather has the news on. And I'm playing with my cousins, minding my own business, when my grandmother shouts from the living room, "THAT MAN ATE OFF MY PLATES!"
And I'll never forget it.

to really get womens sports to the next level we need to craft teams that are supervillains we need a powerful eternal successful team that also has bad vibes bad energy and is fundamentally evil we need to construct the new york yankees of women

Telling my father-in-law that I'm becoming a Benedictine WENT BADLY.
Him: "Every time I see a Benedictine nun I want to run her over."
Me: "Well those are my sisters, so--"
Him: "I have never met a nun that I liked!"
And that was the end of that conversation. I know it's because of his particular Catholic school trauma, but that was a long time ago, and I wish he could have seen how much this means to me. tbh I don't think my in-laws have ever really known what to do about having a clergywoman as a daughter-in-law.
Uncanny timing to get an encouraging message from my oblate director tonight.
