excerpt from an AU im currently writing ^_^ this is set after 196

"But now you seem to have a finger in every pie." Sung Hyunjae's steps halt, and Han Yoojin feels a spike of dread work its way up his spine as he stops with him.

"You've amassed a fortune out of taming monsters, talked over budding, S-rank talented individuals into joining your side, and now I have just witnessed you swindle an SS-ranked item out of experienced businessmen, along with their chance to profit off what could be the most groundbreaking invention for the Hunter world after the synthesization of the health potion.

Sung Hyunjae had been stepping closer as he talked until he’s fully invading Han Yoojin’s space, and there’s no one else in the hallway except for them but he feels crowded in from every side, still, the air he breathes saturated with his overwhelming presence.

"What I would like to know, Han Yoojin-gun, is when exactly did you get such a clever mouth?"

The memory of his hands scorching a trail along Han Yoojin's back, drifting up from his shoulders to grip his jaw rises unbidden in his mind. The dread morphs, colors with the memory of heat, clears with the suggestion of an idea. His face aches and burns. Worth a try.

He raises his hand.

“It’s clever in more ways than one,” he says, resting his hand in the same place Sung Hyunjae’s had on him earlier, as he guides him down. “Would you like to be reminded of how?”

It's a poor attempt at misdirection and they both recognize it as such. Sung Hyunjae stares at him with one of his intense unmoving gaze as he decides whether to let it go this time too or not.

Come on, he thinks, and makes sure to not look away even once as he deliberately relaxes his shoulders, and tilts his head to subtly bare the side of his neck. I promise to make it worth your while.

It’s still not quite enough. Sung Hyunjae’s eyebrow ticks up, but he himself doesn’t budge, so Han Yoojin lets himself reach up, and subtly feel along the shell of his ear, knuckles softly brushing the space behind it.

Then he wets his lips, and leans forward to whisper, low and husky, “Wouldn’t you?”

"...you are," Sung Hyunjae's finally voice sounds out from the side, just under a conversational volume, but he's never heard him raise his voice above that the whole time Han Yoojin's known him. "much more difficult to deal with than I first thought, Han Yoojin-gun."

His tone is more indulgent than anything else. He could even say it sounds a little cheerful.

The next thing he knows, Han Yoojin’s back is against the wall and for a moment all he can see is gold.

For the people who are out there “fighting the good fight” and “trying to make fandom a better place,” I have two important questions for you:

1. Is the author dead? x

2. Is your baby in the bathwater? x

What do I mean by those things? Let’s start with #1. The Death of the Author is a type of literary criticism, the extreme cliff notes version of which is that art exists outside of the creator’s life, personal background, and even intentions. I’m using it slightly differently than Barthes intended, but that’s okay, because the author is dead and I’m interpreting his work through my own lens.

In fandom, the author is dead. In fact, the author was never alive in the first place, not really. The author has only ever been the idea of a person, because unlike published fiction, the only thing we know about a fanfic author is that which they choose to tell us about themselves.

Why is that important?

Because it might not be true. Hell, that happens in real life with published authors, who have SSN’s on file with their publishers, who pay taxes on the works they create and have researchable pasts. If the author of A Million Little Pieces could fake everything, why can’t I? Why can’t you? Why can’t the writer of your favorite fic in the whole wide world?

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: “you can only write about [sensitive subject] if [sensitive subject] has happened to you personally, otherwise you’re a disgusting monster that deserves to die!!” Or maybe “you can only write [x racial or ethnic group] characters if you’re [x racial or ethnic group] otherwise you’re racist/fetishizing/colonizing!”

You can play this game with any sensitive subject you can come up with. I’ve seen them all before, on a sliding scale of slightly chastising to literal death threats.

Now, I could tell you that I’m a white-passing Latina whose grandmother was an anchor baby. I could tell you that I speak only English because my family never taught me to speak Spanish, something which I’ve been told is common in the Cuban community, though I only know my own lived experience. I could tell you that I’m mostly neurotypical. I could tell you that I’m covered in surgical scars. I could tell you lots of things.

Are any of these true? Maybe! I could tell you that my brother has severe mental development problems, so uncommon that they’ve never been properly diagnosed, and that he will live the rest of his life in a group home with 24-hour care. Is that true? Am I allowed to write about families struggling with America’s piss-poor services for the handicapped now?

Am I allowed to write about being Cuban? After all, I did just say that I’m Cuban. But is it true? Can I instead write a character that’s Panamanian? Maybe I really am Panamanian, not Cuban. Maybe I’m both. Maybe I’m neither. Maybe I’m really French Canadian. Should we require people to post regular selfies? I can’t count the number of times I’ve had someone come up to me speaking Arabic, and I’ve been told that I look Syrian. What’s stopping me from making a blog that claims that I am Syrian? Can you even really tell someone’s race and ethnicity from a photo?

Am I allowed to write about being a teenager? Am I allowed to write about being a college student? Am I allowed to write about being an “adulty” adult? Can I write a character who’s 40? 50? 60? How old am I?

All of this is to say: you can’t base what someone is or is not “allowed” to write about on a background that may or may not be real. No matter how good your intentions. And I get it - this usually comes from a place of well-meaning. You’re trying to protect marginalized groups by stopping privileged people from trampling all over experiences that they haven’t suffered. I get that. It’s a very noble thought. But you can’t require a background check for every fic that you don’t like.

If you say “you can only write about rape if you’re a rape victim,” then one of three things will happen:

Real survivors will have to supply intimate details of their own violations to prevent harassment

Real survivors will refuse to engage and will then have to deal with death threats and people telling them to kill themselves for daring to write about their own experiences

People who aren’t survivors will say “yeah sure this happened to me” just to get people to shut up

Has that helped anyone? I mean really - anyone??

So now let’s get to point #2: is your baby in the bathwater?

If your intention is to protect marginalized people from being trampled upon, stop and assess if your boot is the one that’s now stamping on their face. Find your baby! Is your baby in the bathwater? Which is to say: find the goal that you’re advocating for. Now assess. Are you making the problem worse for the people you’re trying to protect? Does that rape victim really feel better, now that you’ve harassed and stalked them in the name of making rape victims feel safe?

Let’s say you read a fic that contains explicit sex between a 16 year old and a 17 year old. Is this okay? Would it be okay if the writer was 15? 16? 17? Should teenagers be barred from writing about their own lives, and should teenagers be banned from exploring sexuality in a fictional bubble, instead of hookup culture? Is it okay for a 20 year old to write about their experiences as a teenager? Is it okay for a 20 year old to write about being raped at a party as a teenager? Is it okay for a 30 year old? How about a 40 year old? Is it okay so long as it isn’t titillating? Is it okay if taking control of the narrative allows the writer to re-conceptualize their trauma as something they have control over? Is it okay if their therapist told them that writing is a safe creative outlet?

Is your author dead?

Is your baby in the bathwater?

Now let’s take a hardline approach: no fanfiction with characters who are under 18 years old. None. Is the 16 year old who really loves Harry Potter and wants to read/write about characters their own age better off? Should they be banned from writing? Should they be forced to exclusively read and write (adult) experiences that they haven’t lived? Will they write about teens anyway? Should they have to share it in secret? Should 16 year olds be ashamed of themselves? Should we just throw in with the evangelicals and say that the only answer is abstinence, both real and fictional?

Let’s say that no rape is allowed in fiction, at all. None. What happens to all the hurt/comfort fics where a character is raped and then receives the support and love that they deserve, slowly heal, and by the end have found themselves again? Are you helping rape victims by banning these stories? Are you helping rape victims by stripping their agency away, by telling them that their wants and their consent doesn’t matter?

Is your baby in the bathwater?

Fandom is currently being split in two: on one side, the people who want to make fandom a “safer” place by any means necessary, even if that means throwing out all of the marginalized groups they say they want to protect - and on the other, people who are saying “if you throw out that bathwater, you’re throwing the baby out too.”

The whole point of fandom is to be able to explore all kinds of ideas from the safety and comfort of a computer screen. You can read/write things that fascinate you, disgust you, titillate you, or make your heart feel warm. This is true of all fiction. People who want to read about rape and incest and extreme violence and torture can go pick up a copy of Game of Thrones from the bookstore whenever they want. Sanitizing fandom just means holding a community of people who are primarily not male, not straight, not cis, or some combination of those three, to higher and stricter standards than straight white cis male authors and creators all over the world.

There is nothing you can find on AO3 that you can’t find in a bookstore. Any teenager can go check out Lolita, or ASOIAF, or Flowers in the Attic, or Stephen King’s It, or Speak, or hundreds of other books that have adult themes or gratuitous violence or graphic sex. The difference is that AO3 has warnings and tags and allows people to interact only with the types of work that they want to, and allows people to curate their experiences.

Are these themes eligible to be explored, but only in the setting of something produced/published? Books, movies, television, studio art, music - all of these fields have huge barriers to entry, and they’re largely controlled by wealthy cishet white men. Is it better to say that only those who have the right connections to “make it” in these industries should be allowed to explore violence or sexuality or any other so-called “adult” theme?

Does banning women from writing MLM erotica make fan culture a better place?

Does banning queer people from writing about queer experiences make fan culture a better place?

Is M/M fic okay, but only if the author is male? What if he’s a transman? What if they’re NB? Who should get to draw those lines? Should TERFs get a vote? What if the author is a woman who feels more comfortable writing from a male character’s perspective because she’s grown up with male stories her whole life, or because she identifies more with male characters? What about all the transmen who discovered themselves, in part, by writing fanfiction, and realized that their desires to write male characters stemmed from something they hadn’t yet realized about themselves?

How can we ever be sure that the author is who they say they are?

Who is allowed to write these stories? How do we enforce it?

Is it better for none of these stories to ever exist at all?

Have you killed your author?

Have you thrown out your baby with the bathwater?

“-but I am in love with you.” Yuuji confirms, raising a questioning brow. He stares, unblinking. Megumi stares back, dumbfounded. His mouth hung open by the sudden confession, cheeks heating once the words fully process in his head.

“What?” He asks, unbelievably.

“I am in love with you.” The other repeats, neither shy or embarrassed by the declaration. He goes back to his lunch, picking at the meatballs he prepared yesterday night. “Anyways, did you wanna watch this new movie with me?”

“I-uh-“ Megumi stammers, too shocked to form a sentence. “Wait,” he shuts his eyes, counting to ten as he takes a deep breath. “What do you mean you’re in love with me?”

At that Yuuji smiles, shrugging. “I’m in love with you Fushiguro Megumi.” He goes back to eating, chopsticks grabbing a piece of meat before he pops it in his mouth. “There’s not much else to it”

Megumi flounders, unsure on how to proceed. “I’m not- Your brother-“

“I know.” Yuuji cuts him off. His smile is soft and accepting and warm and everything so good that it also makes Megumi want to cry.

Spring is more than ready to retire, sleepy and exhausted from her year’s work; a tedious task of marking the start of change. She’s been decorating alleyways and streets with flowers of vibrant colors, fully bloomed blossoms helping paint the streets in pink. She tends to the trees too, turning them a bright green, the orange and red from Autumn’s touch fading away just like the melting snow from Winter. She makes sure to echo the sound of children and adults alike laughing throughout the city, smiling at their excited smiles and rosy cheeks. Additionally, she turns down the teens’ complaints of returning to school, laughing at their misery and creative insults before she moves on to the next task. The sun, always one to favor Spring, hangs out in the sky longer to watch her run around, amused by her antics. These days, there is only peace.

‘Yuuji would have loved it.’ Megumi thinks to himself, looking out the window. He has twenty minutes before the newest first years step into his classroom. There are two boys and one girl this year, all having rare techniques. One of them happens to be the Gojo heir, the keeper of the six eyes. The other two are nothing to sneeze at either, one being able to manipulate cursed energy and the other already an expert at her reverse technique. ‘It’ll be a busy year.’ he sighs internally, his bones groaning at the future work he’ll have to put in. He’s not looking forward to it but he knows Yuuji would have loved it; excited to teach the new generation. He imagines how the pink haired boy (boy because that’s all he was after all, having lived and died as one) would be right now; he imagines watching pink flashes whip around the class, excitement rolling off in waves. He imagines Yuuji’s smiling face, how he’d ask Megumi to show off his shadow technique as an ice breaker and how his eyes would twinkle at the sight of the Divine Dogs before both dogs would jump into his arms, ignoring their actual owner. He imagines how quickly the first years would warm up to him too.

‘Megumi...Live a long life okay?’

He’s 27 now, the unblemished skin from his teens no where in sight. It’s littered in scars, small and big, tiny and wide, regrets and hopes engraving themselves into his body like tally marks. Permanent reminders of who’ve he’s saved, of who he couldn’t, stories to tell when questioned by his students. When they finally gain the courage to ask, that is. He knows as the head of the Zenin clan and his natural cold demeanor, it’ll be difficult to build a relationship with the teens, especially the Gojo heir due to the family politics. He has faith though, something Yuuji has instilled in him all those years ago.

‘Y’know Fushiguro...You’re a pretty good guy!’

‘You’re a lot friendlier than you think you are’

‘I think you’d be a great teacher! Our future students are totally gonna think of you as the cold but cool mentor yknow? Cmon Megumi! Be a teacher with me! We could be the best teacher duo- Are you laughing?! Hey-!’

He distantly wonders which scar they’ll ask about first, a part of him hopes they’ll ask about the one on his ring finger. It’s unlikely though since it’s nothing grand compared to the others he’s collected, but it is his favorite one. He told Nobara about it years ago, late at night and after a few months after the execution of ‘Sukuna’s Vessel’, alcohol buzzing in his system. He remembers the way she barked out a humorless laugh, eyes growing watery as she said, “Can’t believe we all thought Yuuji was the hopeless romantic out of the two of you.”

He offered a weak smile which she returned, both pointedly ignoring the other’s tears. She stayed with him the whole night, helping him make meatballs for the hangover soup the next day.

Nowadays, Nobara, also older now, complains about her marred skin and how she’ll never get to a model but he’s seen the way she parades each scar like a Medal of Honor. She even forgoes the eyepatch once in awhile, her and Maki taking the street by storm whenever they’re out on their dates. He wonders if the kids will ask her about it when she stops by. It’d be a pretty funny image, he admits. He can already hear her voice, unabashedly loud.

He’s broken out of his thoughts when the door opens, the slam introducing his new students.

“Are you Zenin-sensei?” One asks, he has his hair in a low bun with the exception a piece of his bang falling flat against the side of his face. Getou Suguru.

“I thought the Zenin head was way older! Like a gramp or something” Another one speaks, his hair pure white and he’s hiding his eyes behind dark round sunglasses. He has a lollipop in his hand, using it to point to Megumi. Gojo Satoru.

The last one, a short girl with tired eyes and short hair glances at her two companions before heading to an empty seat. Shoko Ieiri.

“I’m not Zenin-sensei but I am your teacher” He answers Getou with a nod, turning to whats most likely going to be the the biggest pain in his ass. “The person you might thinking about, Gojo-kun, would be the deceased Naobito Zenin, I became the head only two years ago. My reign hasn’t been that long in comparison to the old bastard.”

“Wait if you’re not a Zenin then how’re you the head?” Shoko questions, shifting in her seat.

“I took my husband’s last name and despite being the head, I have no intentions of changing it.” He answers easily, writing his name on the board. “You may call me Itadori-sensei.”

In which Yuuji’s execution date is finalized so he cleans.

Sukuna doesn’t bother him much these days opting to stay in his domain, maybe he’s having his own five stages of grief or scheming a plan to make it out of this alive, but it’s a peaceful time that Yuuji takes advantage of wholeheartedly. He spends the day cleaning his room, tucking parts of himself into boxes with labels. He labels the box with his posters and hair product ‘Todo’ followed by ‘Nobara’ and ‘Gojo-sensei’ then ‘Maki’ and ‘Panda’ and ‘Inumaki’. He continues this pattern throughout the afternoon, gifting his most prized possessions for his most precious people. He takes his time too, trying to find the best parts of himself to give away, so maybe somehow in the future, it’ll be used to bring comfort on even the worst days. He gets through the list, steadily crossing off the names in red ink.

It’s unnerving to see his room, his life before and after Sukuna, tucked away into boxes, all ready to start anew with someone else. He has boxes of different sizes scattered throughout, each marked in his messy penmanship. He hopes they’ll be able to read it, hopes they don’t mix up the packages with one another somehow, hopes everyone is able to get their box. It’s a foolish hope but he hopes nonetheless.

He looks down at the last name, a ghost of a smile gracing his face. Heart still beating growing fond.

Fushiguro Megumi.

Megumi does not get a box. He does not get the best parts of Yuuji.

Megumi gets an envelope, standard and crisp. Megumi gets a marriage certificate and written vows that’ll never see its wedding day.

Megumi gets Fushiguro Yuuji, for better or worse.

Okay kinda weird but an AU where kid!Katsuki is adopted by Mic after being found in a villain attack, he’s around 8 years old and is hell bent on never growing attached to anyone ever. So why is it so hard for him to squash down that warm feeling when the older blonde talks to him? And how does he get rid of the idiots in class 1A who keep trying to be nice to him? Why do they keep calling him their little brother? Who is the Hobo looking man that Mic keeps looking at?

Katsuki doesn’t like a lot of things in in life, has he experienced everything life has to offer? No but that’s not the point here

The point is that Katsuki hates almost everyone and everything, leaving only a few things for him to like (he likes his quirk and likes spicy stuff. That is all.)

He hates his birth parents for being shitty enough to give him away to some shitty villains who wanted to turn him into their own weapon.

Even at four he wasn’t all that surprised. On both developments. His parents, as far back as he can force himself to remember, never wanted a boy. They settled though and it was okay for awhile, didn’t interact much and did the bare necessities.

Then his quirk came in and three months later he was literally being handed off like a shitty pet

When he learned what the villains wanted to do with him, he wasn’t all that surprised. Scared? Absolutely but he’ll never admit it to anyone even on his deathbed. Surprised? Not really, they’re villains for a reason, It’s weirder if they’d be loving

It’d be harder for him too if villains were loving and sweet to the kids they bought, fuck up his whole thought process and moral compass about life and all that

(For all intent and purpose, the villains he was with always took him to shady areas so kid Katsuki ended up being doted on by shady people. These shady people do not fuck up his moral compass simply because they’re not villains in his book. Prostitutes don’t wanna be out here working but who else is gonna put food on the table? He can respect that.)

Is he happy with how horrible the villains are? No, absolutely not. especially when he’s the one they’re being shitty to. But does it give him comfort knowing that at least one general rule of society sticks? Yes it does

A general rule of life is that parents are supposed to be loving. His were not.

Anyways life is shitty and so is Katsuki, he stopped hoping a hero was gonna save him after the second year and escape when he was old enough then move to a different country and live life out there

It’s a solid plan and all he needs to do is wait until he’s 18

Obviously life hates him and ruins that

Even worse than shitty parents and shitty villains are shitty heroes in the form of a loud blonde idiot whose hair is helped up with some kind of miracle that save him and want to immediately adopt him

A few shinkami headcannons because I love them more than anything

Shinsou has a growth spurt and practically towers over Denki by their second year (for all intents and purposes, Shinsou has always been in class 1A)

Denki grows a little bit but not that much, he’s not complaining though, he gets Shinsou to grab stuff on the top shelve for him or has him hang up posters in higher places in his room (the only downside is that he has to get on his tippy toes for kisses but usually Shinsou will just bend down like a good boyfriend)

They go on dates every Sunday, It’s their day and it doesn’t matter what they’re doing as long as it’s just the two of them

They could be studying or doing homework or exercising or anything really and they’ll call it a date

The rest of the class knows better than to try and contact either boy on Sunday

“Normies worship Jesus on Sunday but I worship Shinsou” - Denki, at one point in time

Shinsou loves playing with denki’s hair, he buys different kinds of hair clips just to put them in denki’s hair

he just likes how the colors pop out

He especially likes to see purple hair clips in denki’s hair

Tbh it doesn’t have to be hair clips, it could be a scrunchie or a rubber band or a headband; as long as it’s purple it does wonders to shinsou’s heart

Denki likes playing with shinsou’s hair too but more than that he likes seeing Shinsou in yellow clothing

Shinsou doesn’t wear bright colors a lot usually sticking with black or cool tone colors

But when he does wear yellow, Denki just gets all mushy no matter how small it is

It could be yellow earrings or socks or something and Denki will wear a love sick expression all day

Despite being in the hero course, Shinsou still gets incredibly insecure about his quirk and how some people only see him as a villain

Denki, without fail or hesitation, tells Shinsou what a great hero he’s gonna be, he talks about how Shinsou is gonna inspire a new wave of underground heroes and how he’s gonna be some kid’s Aizawa one day and how proud he is of him (The first time he said that, it makes Shinsou sob. It makes denki cry too bc he’s a sympathetic crier so they just lay in bed holding eachother)

He also tells Shinsou how no matter who’s the number one hero, Shinsou will always have first place in his heart. And that Shinsou is just as much as any other hero out there and even a little more because he’ll be underground

Denki just loves his boyfriend so much and whoever planted the idea that some quirks are just made for evil is going to get electrocuted >:(

Denki will also pepper Shinsou in kisses saying things like ‘you are so kind’ ‘you’re an amazing person’ ‘I love you so much’ ‘You’re my hero’ and just a bunch of stuff so by the end of their heart to heart Shinsou is feeling a lot better

Denki gets insecure about how ‘dumb’ he is and how he’ll probably just end up hurting civilians or himself before he hurts a villain

Shinsou hates how that’s how Denki views himself because Denki is one of the kindest people in the world and doesn’t even realize it like the first time Denki told him that insecurity, Shinsou looked at him and was like ‘are you..you’re serious? Denks, You’re one of the most clever people I know’

Whenever Denki mentions it, Shinsou he just squeezes the blonde and lets him cry out his frustrations before telling him that ‘he’s not an idiot or stupid and that it’s okay not to understand something as fast as others and that it’s okay to learn differently and it’s okay’ (Shinsou will always try not to cry but a few tears fall anyways bc he just wants denks to be happy without feeling like he’s a fuckup)

Shinsou never lets Denki call himself an idiot or stupid, even in a joking way.

They don’t fight a lot because of their personalities like

Denki is a people’s person and is really in tune with other’s emotions and by default is a pacifist unless otherwise

Shinsou isn’t a people’s person but he’s observant due to his quirk bc of how he’s been treated in the past, he’s also good at picking up on people’s body language

Most times it’s just small disagreements and even then they communicate the best they can and try to compromise

If that doesn’t work then they’ll give each other space so the disagreement won’t turn into something ugly

They’ve only fought once and it was the worst (and best) thing for them

The fight happened after a mock rescue mission goes wrong and there were weeks of stress and tension leading up to it

It was messy and bad like really bad

“I just don’t get why you have to run into danger!” Denki screamed. The whole dorm could probably hear them but he didn’t care, not when his boyfriend was looking at him like he just lost his mind.

It was supposed to be a simple training exercise. Simple. Go in, defeat villains, rescue the ‘hostages’. It was not that simple.

*insert how badly the mission went and Shinsou ran towards the danger to help or smth idk*

It gets pretty rough between the two of them because they’re both pretty emotional people

Shinsou thinks denki doesn’t want him to be a hero and denki thinks Shinsou doesn’t want to be with him

It’s a lot of insecurities + stress + yelling

Denki is the first one to break, he’s a lot more emotionally sensitive than Toshi and everything is just crashing down and he hates it

“Do you just not want to be with me?!” He cries, unable to keep the tears at bay any more. He hates arguing with people, especially when that person happens to be his boyfriend. He gets it, he does! Toshi is training to become a hero and so is he but that doesn’t make it easier. Doesnt stop the shot of fear whenever he watches the other get hurt, doesn’t stop the late night self deprecation, doesn’t stop the anxiety he gets whenever he sees Toshi run head first into danger.

But he gets it and somehow it’s a bitter realization.

Because Hitoshi’s priority is the job they signed up for and Denki’s is Hitoshi.

The fight ends with tears on both their parts and they call it a night, too tired to scream anymore

They sleep in their own rooms that night

The next morning they agree to take a break, not a full break up, but some time away. Space away from each other to prioritize and think.

(Now ive seen fanfics where everyone picks denki over Shinsou and i hate that so fuck you, class 1A are both their friends and they’re all family and try and to help each other I will die with that statement)

Surprisingly the two most helpful people are Bakugou and Kirishima

(Actually not that surprising, they’re the longest couple in the whole class, dating immediately after Kamino)

Bakugou and denki have a heart to heart

“You’re both dumbasses” Katsuki sighs heavy, passing another tissue over to the sobbing blonde. He’s not good at these kinds of things, but Kirishima told him he could help the electric blonde more than he could so here he is. “You gonna tell me what’s wrong or just cry?” He asks, not without a hint of worry though. He pretends to ignore it.

So denki tells him everything and his insecurities

Oh. Yeah, Kirishima was right.

“You think I’m an idiot” Denki mutters quietly, harshly rubbing his eyes.

“No” The older blonde shakes his head, plopping down on the bed next to the other. He doesn’t turn to meet yellow eyes, his own trained on the All Might poster hanging directly across from them. He feels Pikachu’s curious gaze on him so he decides to elaborate more, knowing the sooner he helps the sooner he doesn’t have to deal with this anymore. It’s totally not because he’s gotten soft. Absolutely not.

“Trust me, Zombie Eyes looks at you like you put the fucking stars in the sky. It’s disgusting to watch.” He crinkles his nose in disgust earning a small laugh. “People like him and I, we gotta work twice as hard. Not saying that no one else does but it’s different.” He stresses the last word. “People like Ei or Deku or even you, people already see you as good so all you gotta do is get stronger. They don’t question your character, your morals, they don’t look down on you for having a weakness. People like Zombie Eyes and I though?we gotta work hard just to prove that we’re good. That we were meant to become heroes. Every action we do is put under a microscope and analyzed.” He explains.

“We’re assholes by default, It’s how we were raised. Not saying it as an excuse though. He was in the shitty system and I had shitty parents, no adult taught us shit like love or how to properly deal with feelings.”

Stupid Deku tried with him but he didn’t even know how to deal with his own much less some angry blond kid’s.

He takes a deep breath, pushing back faint memories of his childhood. The younger hasn’t said a word but he can tell he’s listening so it’s fine. “We can’t just turn off how we are. If it’s frustrating for you and Ei, It’s worse for us. Like we know logically that we’re good people, that we changed but that’s now how our brain sees it. We push ourselves because that’s all we know how to do, it proves to us and everyone else that we bled for our spot here. That we made it. Having friends is hard because we compare ourselves to them and draw our own conclusions to their actions. Being nice? Our brain says it’s a trap. Showing some human fucking decency? Our shitty brain says it’s an act. Being in a relationship? Laughable. We’re just villains pretending to play heroes to everyone else.”

He takes another deep breath, forcing himself to look away from the poster, flashbacks to their first year briefly passing in his head. Okay yeah, not going down that route. He looks over, making eye contact. He wonders if this is how Kirishima feels whenever he’s trying to cheer him up. Wonders if it’s just as hard. This better be worth it, everyone has been miserable. (Shitty thing about having been through life and death situations together is that everyone has bonded and become close like a family so when one of them is sad it’s like everyone is fucking sad.) (He loathes it because even he gets worried.)

“But despite that he still loves you.” He says softly, almost whispering like he’s telling the other a secret. “Fights his demons to hold your hand and all that shit”

Shinsou loves him? Loves him?

“How do you.. how do you know?” Denki whispers, throat sore. “We fought so badly last night, we were screaming at eachother.”

“He treats you the same way I treat Ei.” He answers,

“He changed his priorities around to try and accommodate for another person in his life, you became more important than training or studying. He takes days off to be with you, cuts his studying short if you need a break. It might not seem much to others but for him that’s huge. He came in with this one track mind but then you came along and he scrambled to balance everything. And then you two got your shit together and started to go out and I’m pretty sure he got scared”

“Scared?” Denki asks, the thought almost funny to him.

“I did.” Bakugou admits as Denki’s eyes grow wide.

“I was petrified. When Ei started to become more important than hero work, I freaked. It’s not that loverboy is choosing being a hero over you, It’s because he doesn’t understand that he can have both. He thinks everything important is a choice- that if you want something you have to give something up. He chooses hero work and he loses you. He chooses you and he loses hero work.”

“But he’s not going to lose me or hero work”

“Kinda sounded like you did give him an ultimatum though”

The realization hits him like cold water.

Shinsou gets a similar talk with Kirishima

It helps, a lot

They don’t immediately go back to eachother, instead spending the week with their everyone else and just taking time for themselves

Shinsou knocks on Denki’s door Sunday morning and they finally talk things out

It’s also the first time they say ily!!

Anyways after that fight they work harder on communicating especially when it comes to things like hero work

It’s not perfect bc their dumb traumatized teens but they’re trying and they know their lil family will always be there

Randomly thought of but MHA except Bakugou’s hatred for Deku isnt because he’s quirkless. Bakugou doesn’t hate or is prejudice towards quirkless people, he hates weak people

AU where Bakugou is still somewhat the same as in canon but his feelings and thoughts come from a different mindset

Growing up his parents taught him that a quirk doesn’t make a person stronger, the person makes a quirk strong

This leads him to train in not only with his quirk but also in various areas that could potentially come up during hero work (lock picking, reading body language, shit like that) bc if he’s weak then so is his quirk

If you’re wondering how a child is learning all of this, this is Bakugou-fucking-Katsuki. If he wants something, he’s gonna get it even if it means he has to go through hell.

Luckily in this AU, his parents aren’t neglectful or shitty!! they indulged in his whims more of them than not!!

They’re both famous fashion designers and have a lot of connections when it comes to ‘high end society’ so if katsuki wants to learn how to dress to kill or something like that, they already have it set up for him!

The Bakugou’s teach their little victory all of their tricks and tips about how to theoretically make clothes that have extra space for weapons (they know his desire to be a hero and while they’re a little worried they’re just happy he’s being prepared for the long run.) They don’t actually make clothes for him to hide weapons, they verbally tell him how to do something and tips but they leave it up to him to complete the task to a proficient level

They also let their coworkers teach Bakugou stuff, anything their kid would find important or somewhat interesting (taking pictures is boring but learning how to take clear pictures of a loving target is interesting)

Many models, photographers and people who know the Bakugous have basically adopted Katsuki as their feral child since many of them are unable to have their own kids due to their work

Now, Bakugou has learned things about body language (how to read it), how to fake his confidence, sewing, stitching, how to dress for any situation, etc from his parents and their coworkers

However while those skills are important for him (he has a plan to be the best and he can’t be the best if he’s lacking in skills) he needs to know how to fight hand to hand without a quirk or how to pick locks or how to pickpocket (who knows, maybe he’ll have to steal something from a villain!!)

He doesn’t tell his parents what his specific plans are but he does tell him he’s gonna do training on his own

Now normal parents would be worried but for the sake of the AU let’s just say that katsuki’s parents work on the mentality that ‘their child is strong and even if he gets knocked down, he’ll be right back up. He’s a Bakugou.’

Bakugou’s never give up, it’s not in their blood to give up.

So, Bakugou, feral child, goes off on his own to experience a real fight with people who won’t care if they hurt him or to find someone to teach him how to pick a lock or pickpocket

Most of the adults he’s met are just amused by this kid so they too indulge him and his demands

Especially those who spar with him, Bakugou has made it clear that if he feels like they’re holding back he’ll make it so they can’t afford to anymore

(Yes this isn’t always a good thing but what matters is that he’s survived and somewhat friends with a bunch of shady people)

(They’ll tell you that they’re friends, Bakugou thinks that they’re worthy opponents)

Now this leads me to his relationship with deku

Originally he didn’t actually hate Deku when it’s announced that he’s quirkless, why would he? The nerd just has to get strong and it’ll be fine!

Deku isnt weak because he doesn’t have a quirk just like how Bakugou isn’t strong just because he has a quirk

That mentality lasts for 3 seconds

he starts to hate how the green boy lets that determine his future of being a hero or not

Deku being quirkless isn’t a problem. Deku allowing himself to be weak because he’s quirkless is a problem.

He just gets so frustrated with deku that he eventually just pulls away. He doesn’t want to hang out with someone who doesn’t work towards a goal, blood, sweat, tears and all that.

Deku wanting to be a hero is funny to Bakugou because deku is weak, the nerd let’s people step all over him especially Bakugou

To Bakugou, if deku just stood up for himself for once then he’d respect him

For obvious reasons, Midoriya does not know this and everyone including him assumes Bakugou just hates him because he’s quirkless

(The only exceptions is Bakugou’s parents because they have the same mindset and Inko because her and Mitski are best friends so she’s more than aware of their thought process)

For reasons, Bakugou’s ‘bullying’ is more like taunts and if he does use his quirk he never directly harms Midoriya (he just wants to push the kid to act not kill him) this also means he never tells deku to kill himself

Midoriya firmly believes Bakugou hates him and acts more or less the same as he does in canon

However he doesn’t see how the blonde will text inko to let her know when Midoriya is having a really bad day or how Bakugou wards off students who want to seriously harm him

Is this an excuse to write about Bakugou acting as a ‘reluctant older sibling who just wants the best for the younger but doesn’t know how to verbalize it so their actions come off as bullying or the likes’ and Midoriya being the ‘younger sibling who is terrified of their older sibling but still admires them greatly yet will never say that out loud because they’re convinced said older sibling hates them’? Maybe

Needless to say, this leads to an interesting conversation when the topic of quirkless people comes up during class

Bakugou scowls as he feels his classmates’ stares burn into his skull. He turns around with sneer, his palms popping. “What?” He manages to ask through gritted teeth. All without blowing up too.

His dad is gonna be so proud.

“W-well..” Shitty hair stammers, looking uncomfortable as he shifts in his chair. (The only reason why he doesn’t immediately get blown up is because Bakugou likes him. He’s man enough to admit he’s got a crush but like hell is he gonna do anything about. What he’s not gonna do though? Blow up said crush.)

“Y’know how you are!” Dunce Face blurts out, Tape Face elbowing his stomach harshly as Pinky hisses a not so quiet ‘not cool dude!’ . Now the others are exchanging shifty glances and from how reluctant they are to meet his eyes, he already has a good idea what this is about.

“Yeah yknow we’re just

“Yeah?” His eyes narrow with disdain as his ugly scowl softens into a calculating frown and he tilts his head just slightly. His arms crossed across his chest while he forces his body to relax. It takes just a few seconds but his aura changes from the ‘typical bad boy delinquent’ vibe he usually has going on and turns into something much more. It works wonders and he has a brief flashback from a conversation he had as a kid.

“You want to be intimadating? Don’t shout, don’t fire off your explosions, don’t give any reaction. Be cold, be caculating. Be dangerous little one. Being quiet is the most dangerous one can get.”

He has the electric blonde pinned under his look and faintly he can hear a ‘oh shit’ from a few seats away. He knows what he looks like, practiced the fuck out of this particular stare that a Russian model taught him all those years ago when he went on a fashion trip with his parents.

“I’ll teach you how to be scary little firecracker. Make us proud, you’re our little victory.”

Models, he muses privately as he watches the boy sweat bullets, are as dangerous as they are pretty. It takes a few moments of tense silence before someone eventually breaks and unsurprisingly it’s fucking half-n-half. He doesn’t have a real issue with daddy issues but he’s got a bone to pick with the tea kettle lover after the whole incident at the sports festival. The thought of fighting him is enough to get his blood going.

“They thought you’d hate quirkless people.” Hot Water fucker says, face void of any emotion and voice monotone. Ever since being friends with the nerd, IcyHot has gotten a lot better at speaking up when normally he’d just ignore everything. (Now if only shitty deku could pound some emotion that’d be great.)

Even though he’d expect it, he can’t help but laugh.“Why would I hate quirkless people?” He questions, raising a perfect brow. He drops his arms, an elbow perched up on Midoriya’s desk as his cheek rests on his open palm. He watches them falter, hesitation in their eyes. He decides to add fuel to fire, “One of my favorite people in this world is quirkless. She works for my parents as a secretary, I visit her every time I go.”

He doesn’t bother to listen to the responses, snapping his head and making direct eye contact with the nerd. “I hate people who have potential but let others tell them where they belong. It’s pathetic and sad. They should go get some fucking dignity, you think having a quirk is any better than not having one? It’s like having an arm, it’s the norm but if you don’t got it doesn’t mean you’re broken.” His words come out even despite the frustration building under his skin, he sees how Deku’s eyes widen in some kind of realization so he forces himself to pull his gaze away before landing onto Pony Tail. He doesn’t have an issue with her and actually likes her a lot better than the others but her confidence is so low it offends him, especially since he sees her as an opponent. Her eyes grow big and he can tell she’s nervous but before he can change his mind, his mouth opens. Oops.

The idiots practically brought this upon themselves. Reap what you sow dumbasses.

He just goes off and everyone is just stunned because they had this idea of him but that completely crumbled as soon as he started to reveal some of his thoughts and opinions

(Kirishima always kinda knew Bakugou was like this just bc I say so)

Anyways he said his peace and it’s all quiet as people take in what he said and Ofc mineta decides to say something

“I don’t wanna hear that from a villain!” The diaper baby shrieks loudly, the grape fucker’s finger shaking as he points at him. Now usually, Bakugou has no problem with blasting the little pervert and calling it a day but he’s not quite done giving the literal talk down of a century just yet.

“Listen here you sex offender in training” He sneers and he takes great pleasure in seeing the other tremble in fear. “Wanna know why people shut the fuck up when I talk? Why people bother to take my advice? Why compared to me, you’re just a coward that no one besides the class’s resident sunshine trio will ever look at twice?” He asks, getting up slowly. No one stops him as he takes a step forward.

“Because I say actually fucking matters.” Step. “What I say is based off of experience and talent.” Step. “If you’re lucky then maybe the shit you spew will be worth something because it’s not worth anything here.” He finally makes it to his desk, towering over the other.

“You don’t like what I gotta say? Deal with it. I’ll continue to talk my shit to everyone and anyone because I can back it up. Can you? You fought any villains recently like teach over there? You go through some sudden growth and expand your moral compass like glasses? You fight and protect a little girl from the yakuza recently like Deku and Shitty hair? How bout deal with a shitty dad or shitty parenrs like IcyHot and Eyebags? What? Piss baby too scared now? Yeah, where were you when we were fighting for our lives? Were you there when Pikachu and Tape Face and Racoon Eyes fought against the villains in USJ?” He questions but everyone knows he’s not asking for an answer. “You there when birdbrain almost got kidnapped? You there when I got kidnapped? No? Then do everyone a fucking favor and shut the fuck up or I swear to whatever god you believe in, I’ll shove my fist down your throat and into your pathetic body and explode you so badly they’ll be scrapping off your guts for days.”

It starts at the entrance exams.

Well more specifically, it starts after the entrance exams have ended and everyone is making their way home.

A duo of green and blonde travel through the crowd of students, pinkies linked. The blonde wears a scowl, eyebrows furrowed as his counterpart looks around in awe, bright green eyes widening at every little thing. It’s a strange sight to anyone who bothers to pay attention, two vastly different boys so close to one another. However, no one pays attention to them, too busy worrying over their own own issues.

It’s a good thing too, because the green haired boy doesn’t need people staring at them when he’s on a mission. His eyes scan the area, searching. So far, no one here has caught his attention but he’s determined to make this trip worthwhile. Well, it was already worthwhile since it’s U.A, but even more worthwhile. The written portion was a breeze and even though the physical portion was a hassle, it was entertaining enough. He even got to save this brown haired girl! He’d have to check in with her later, she was nice.

Too caught up in his thoughts, he almost misses the flash of color but in an instant his eyes follow it and his breath gets caught in his throat as he meets purple eyes. The boy in question has eyebags that could rival a zombie’s and wild purple hair that he just knows is soft.

“I want that one.” He declares, eyes fixating on a purple haired boy, not willing to break eye contact.

He has to have him.

The boy breaks eye contact soon enough, and it takes all his will power for Midoriya not to pout.

He shifts attention to the blonde next to him, careful to keep his volume low. “Kacchan,” he whispers excitedly, tugging on the boy’s sleeve. “I found one that I want.”

“Who?” The taller asks, eyes glued to his phone but it doesn’t deter the other.

“He’s purple.”

“Are you sure? You haven’t even met your future classmates yet.” He glances, a perfect brow raised in doubt reminding the greenette of a concerned mother.

He nods.

The blonde had a scowl as he looked around the room, eyes meeting Kirishima’s for a moment before going back to their original task.

Midoriya looks at him and he looks away, immediately ashamed for his outburst. Right before the redhead can mutter an excuse or apologize, whichever decides to come out of his mouth first, the other interrupts.

“You’re jealous.” He says but not unkindly. He smiles gently, and suddenly Kirishima feels like he’s back in therapy and he’s having to relearn how to process his emotions by learning how to identify what he’s feeling in the first place.

It makes him feel exposed and worse for snapping. A little angrier too if he’s being honest, he feels like a child again, too many feelings and not enough words to express them. His chest is a pot and his emotions are overfilling.

“You’re jealous of me and my relationship with Kacchan.” Midoriya continues and if this was anyone else, he’d probably punch that stupid smile off of the other’s face but this is Midoriya. He can’t even bring himself to get upset when the other says it as a fact, as if he pointed out that the sky was blue or Mina’s skin was pink. He doesn’t bother to reply either, feeling humiliated by how easy he is to read and by the looks of it, it doesn’t look like the other expected for him to answer. They both knew it was true anyways. “You’re jealous because you can’t have Kacchan the way I’ll always have him.”

“It’s not fair.” He whimpers, eyes already watering and it’s just so fucking frustrating because he hates crying, especially because of something like this and rubs at his eyes roughly uncaring for the harsh fabric against his skin. A familiar ugly feeling boils in his stomach, spreading throughout his body like an uncontrollable disease, the taste of jealousy bitter in his mouth. “He likes me.”

It wasn’t fair.

Maybe he was being selfish and childish but it wasn’t fair. He’s always been a second choice, sometimes never a choice but for once, for once, he’s someone’s first choice. He’s someone’s go-to, someone’s study buddy, someone’s sparring partner, someone’s person. The fact he’s Bakugou’s person is mind blowing in of itself and sometimes it’s hard to wrap his brain around it but Bakugou chose him.

But even if he has Bakugou, Midoriya has Kacchan and that’s the difference.

Because Bakugou looks at him but sees Midoriya and it hurts because Midoriya sees Bakugou right back while Kirishima is just an outsider looking in.

Because Kirishima worked so hard to stand next to the blonde and it seems like all Midoriya has to do is hold out his hand and Bakugou will take it and pull him next to him.

Because Midoriya seems to just get it while Kirishima doesn’t.

“Kiri,” Midoriya sighs softly, leaning over and gently prying the boy’s hands away from his face. “You’re going to hurt yourself like that pretty boy.” He coos, rubbing his thumbs over the tear stained cheeks. The boy in question just hiccups, the tears free flowing as he tries to shy away from the touch. “C’mon sunshine, don’t hide away from me. Let’s go to the couch okay?”

(Privately, Midoriya tucks away the image of a crying Kirishima deep into his mind under lock and key. He’s a pretty crier and he’s almost upset that he didn’t get to the redhead first. Maybe in another lifetime. For now, he’s Kacchan’s.)

As soon as they’re on the couch, the redhead tucked in the corner with Midoriya glued to his side and a comforting hand rubbing his back, Kirishima starts to calm down, all his emotions slowly trickling out his body. he says, “Kacchan is yours as much as he’s mine, but he’s yours in the way it matters. He might love us both but he’s in love with you.”

okay so I just have this crackish AU where:

both Bakugou and midoriya are hell children & best fucking friends and because Bakugou is the son of two famous fashion designers, he goes to all these fancy places and drags Midoriya along while Midoriya drags Bakugou along to all these cool (but also kinda shady) places and from their little adventures they meet the kid! Class 1A (along with the younger versions of their teachers) and it’s each time it’s utter chaos glorious :

• okay so Bakugou and midoriya meet as babies and as soon as they make eye contact, in their little baby brains they’re thinking “ah a fellow hell child”

• so yeah in the beginning years they’re joined at the hips & it’s a fucking mess since whenever inko tries to pick up baby izuku he just bawls and when mitsuki tries with baby katsuki, he’ll will just glare and start kicking his tiny feet to get away

• the only way to separate the kids is during nap time but even then that’s a fucking mission and a half bc who knew babies could be so strong???

• Izuku is still definitely a crybaby but also very stubborn and refuses to let go of his friend even in his sleep

• anywaysss,, in this AU there’s still quirks but to be honest?? Izuku and Katsuki don’t really care about heroes they just wanna have fun

• Izuku is still a nerd and will mumble and stuff but he cares less about the heroes and more about the quirks ( All Might is still his favorite hero but he kinda thinks it’s sad being number one all by yourself)

• Bakugou just wants something fun to do and heroes are somewhat cool but announcing your attack before you even attack?? The villains monologues?? He signed up for action not a sob story (He also likes all might but bc he’s a kid of fashion and taste he gags at the hero’s outfit and turns off the tv in second hand embarrassment) (more often than not Katsuki has his face buried in his hands at the atrocious outfits)

• Katsuki doesn’t really care that Izuku doesn’t have a quirk and yeah making explosions with your hands is cool but sweating??? It’s gross and he can’t even touch anyone without his stupid gloves on or unless he sparks away the sweat but that just hurts his hand so it’s a shitty quirk in his opinion

• doesn’t stop him from mastering it though

• because if there’s one thing Bakugou is, it’s being spiteful. Some kid in their class made an off handed comment saying that he probably wouldn’t be able to control such an unstable quirk and in true Bakugou fashion, he took great offense and began his training at the age of 5 because fuck you that’s why

• obviously Izuku is right there by his side because what the else is he supposed to do?? Let the blonde have all the fun?? No?? the thought of being left out of something fun is appalling to kid izuku & It’s not like he has any other friends besides Bakugou besides helping the blonde control is quirk is really fun (more often than not katsuki’s quirk is the reason why they end up meeting so many people)

• that’s actually how they meet their first friend; a bullied kid by the name of Shinsou Hitoshi

• In this AU, both Katsuki and izuku’s parents are oblivious like katsuki’s parents think he’s over the Midoriya’s household and vice versa (over dinner time they just chalk up the boy’s stories to imagination or some kind of show they happen to see and are kinda oblivious)

• Kinda like the parents in cat in the hat where they’re just like “Aww that’s sweet”

• this leaves two 7 year olds to their own devices

• one day Izuku is curious abt how public transportation works (bc he and his mommy walk a majority of the time since everything is so close by) and Katsuki is up for an adventure so they grab some money they found laying around, clumsily pack some snacks (deku throws everything in his lunchbox and calls it a day, Bakugou is a little more organized) and set out to concur public transportation

• now If asked, Bakugou and midoriya didn’t mean to start a fight with the bullies

• which is absolutely bullshit

• bc katsuki loves fighting and Izuku has a bleeding heart so they’re quick to interfere, Bakugou attacks the bullies with his explosions (he’s 7 and has no clue on what mercy is and it’s a one sided beat down) while Midoriya rushes to the purple boy’s side to pull him away from the action

• now Izuku is a hell child beyond belief but he’s a prepared hell child and pulls out some bandaids and quickly takes care of the purple kid’s scabs and whatnot

• now Shinsou is just dumbfounded bc what the fuck??? He’s never seen these kids before and he knows they’re not around this neighborhood bc if they were they wouldn’t help someone like him

• and now he’s just staring at this green haired child and a blond child and before he knows it he’s crying oh fuck when did he start crying???? Who’re these nice kids? Why couldn’t he be as strong as the blond? Why did the green one help him??

• Izuku, ever the sympathetic crier starts crying, and he pulls the other kid in a bone crushing hug while Bakugou just stands off to the side awkwardly bc feelings are not his area of expertise

• after awhile Shinsou manages to calm down which leads to Izuku to calm down which has bakugou relaxing and soon all three kids are sitting on the sidewalk & the two are sharing their snacks with Shinsou

📂📂📂 i have no idea how many youve gotten but, i don't ever want it to end so here.

gosh i'm finally back on these,,,

now consider,, katsuki just being weirdly knowledgeable about bombs. not because he's intentionally trying to be edgy or anything, but simply because when he realised the potential for his quirk when he was a kid, he got super excited and raided the local library's books on explosives. he read up on anything even remotely related to explosives, and while this got him a very explicit understanding of his own quirk, it also gave him very obscure knowledge of other unrelated things related to explosives.

so one day aizawa storms into class like, "everyone evacuate now, there's been a bomb threat."

the class starts to panic slightly, and denki goes, "wait, but is there an actual bomb or is it just a threat??"

kyouka hushes everyone for a moment so she can use her quirk, and she pales very quickly.

"it's real. i can hear it ticking," she breathes, terrified.

meanwhile, aizawa is doing a head count.

"where's bakugou?" he interrupts harshly.

the class freezes. katsuki had gone on a bathroom break about twenty minutes ago, and hasn't returned since.

"jirou, find him." aizawa instructs, but kyouka's attempts are fruitless.

"i can't hear anything to characterise him." she explains helplessly. "there are too many people in the building for me to pick him out."

aizawa is growing more tense by the moment, but simply steels himself and continues to evacuate the rest of the class dutifully.

when they're all standing outside on the lawns and staring at the empty school fearfully, a few of the teachers head in to look for katsuki.

the fear is fully unnecessary, though, because moments after the teachers enter the school building, katsuki is walking out, bomb in hand and looking very excited.

"bakugou." aizawa says, slightly faint with all the stress the teenager is causing him. "that's the bomb. why did you bring the bomb here to us when we just got the students away from it?"

katsuki turns to grin at him with shining eyes.

"don't worry, it's defused." he says easily. "but man, the fuckin' design of this thing is sick. i've never seen anything like it, sensei."

"defused?" aizawa echoes hollowly, before turning to kyouka for explanation.

she swallows.

"i swear i heard it ticking." she says.

katsuki turns to give her a frustrated frown, like she's being unreasonable.

"well, yeah, but i literally just said that i defused it. keep up, seriously."

the group blinks at him.

"you said it was defused." aizawa points out slowly. "not that you defused it."

"what did you think, it defused itself?" katsuki scoffs, too busy examining the now-dormant bomb to notice his homeroom teacher's rapidly shuttering expression.

"bakugou." aizawa says after a long moment of silence.

"why did you know how to defuse a bomb?"

at this, katsuki actually looks up, just to give his teacher a vaguely offended glare.

"sensei, i'm literally a walking bomb." he says incredulously. "this is like you asking deku why he knows what broken bones look like."

from the sidelines, izuku makes a weak noise of protest that's ignored.

"put the bomb down." aizawa sighs finally. katsuki looks like he's been slapped.

"no!" he cries. "what the hell, it's mine now! if you think i'm letting go of this work of art then i've got fuckin' news for you!"

"katsuki." aizawa stresses slowly. "we don't know if the bomb has been permanently defused. i need you to put it down and step away from it."

katsuki hugs the explosive tighter to his chest, making his teacher and classmates wince collectively.

"at least..." aizawa groans. "at least let the bomb squad look at it. then you can have it."

katsuki looks greatly miffed about the entire ordeal but agrees nonetheless.

the squad of professionals check it over, the group of them looking somewhat bemused as they sit through katsuki's detailed explanations of the bomb's "fuckin' gorgeous" design. finally, it's returned to the blonde's possession again. he cradles the bomb tenderly, with more care than he's shown for any living thing in his sixteen years of existence.

god, does aizawa deserve a raise for the shit this kid puts him through
