On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.
I’m going to reblog this again since I see more individuals are inquiring about burnout prevention tips in the notes and it’s why I sought out this resource. I hope it helps you!

The most comprehensive link to donations, petitions, resources and information. Silence is compliance in violence.
A list of misinformation that’s being spread, please check that things are true before you repost/reblog them
If you’re still looking for an organization to donate to, check out The National Bail Out! Their goal is to free Black moms and caregivers being held on bail, so they can be with and care for their families.
The cash bail system disproportionately affects poorer, and as a result Black, communities.
i see a lot of my black mutuals in pain and struggling mentally lately so if any of you need it here's a post of mental health resources made by a black woman specifically for black people struggling right now... i love you all so much please take care of yourselves

Would also be really annoying if they wore heat resistant gloves to throw back the hot tear gas canisters and if this got shared to all those protesting…
Would be a further shame if people started covering cameras (as seen in Hong Kong, with protestors using poles and rakes to lift cardboard boxes over security cameras), blinding drone optics with laser pointers, and flooding police-run reporting apps with junk data.
It would be a shame if the protesters noted that plainclothes cops can be identified a number of ways, such as wearing steel-toed boots; an armband or wristband of a particular color; driving white, black, or dark blue cars with concealed lights; or having the outline of cuffs visible in the back pocket or the bumps of an armor vest’s shoulder straps under their shirt.
It would be a shame if the protesters began making their signs out of inch-thick plywood to stop rubber bullets, forming a tight shield wall to prevent police from singling out and mobbing individual protesters. It would be a shame if the people behind the shield wall held up umbrellas so that tear gas canisters fired over the heads of the front line will be bounced away. It would be a shame if protesters began constructing improvised armor vests out of duct tape, hardback books, and ceramic tiles.
It would be a shame if protesters started wearing safety glasses, hard hats, respirators, and gardening gloves, all of which can be found at the same hardware stores as the plywood. It would be a shame if they started using traffic cones (the kind without the hole in the top) upside-down buckets, or other improvised lids to contain tear gas by placing them over the canisters.
It would be a shame if protesters learned that police scanners are legal to own in the US, allowing them to learn where police are moving and what routes they intend to take. It would be a shame if they discovered that these scanners can be used to send as well as receive, allowing them to flood the scanner frequencies with noise.
All this would be a terrible, terrible shame.
Please reblog this.

Know your rights.
While people are inclined to whip out their phones and film when they see something alarming happening, those videos are not always recorded in a way that can be used as evidence in a legal proceeding or to support advocacy tactics.
At the human rights organization WITNESS, where I work as the senior U.S. program coordinator, we’ve learned that video has a greater chance of making an impact when it’s filmed ethically and strategically, and released in coordination with advocacy and legal efforts. Using the camera in your pocket can be a valuable way to ensure the world bears witness to abusive policing and systemic racism, help hold authorities accountable, and advocate for the real safety of our communities.
Teen Vogue still hitting it out of the park, I see.
HOLY SHIT. This was extremely informative. Please everyone READ THIS!!!
Be aware.

Pride month starts tomorrow so I just want to remind you that if you don't support BLM and are complaining about 'riots' you are not allowed to celebrate pride month! The birth of pride was the Stonewall RIOTS, rebellion against police violence by black and brown women. There is no gay liberation without black lives. There is no trans liberation without black lives.
Tweet from Twitter user @hakan_geijer: “Today I released the first edition of Riot Medicine, a public domain book to help street medics in the struggle for liberation, autonomy, and dignity for all. You can download all 466 pages for free here: https://riotmedicine.net/downloads”
i’m going to end up saying this wrong but @ my fellow white people: it’s good to support black lives matter on our socials and we definitely need to be donating to grassroots groups and bail funds (especially those of us who cannot go to protests right now) but we have to have constant conversations with our families and friends about police brutality and racism
it’s a conversation i personally put off for longer than i should have — even as i was protesting with BLM in 2015 i avoided talking with my family about it because i didn’t want to find out that the people i love, who raised me to care about my fellow humans and fight for them, might not be as empathetic as i thought — but that fear is nothing compared to what black people go through every day by simply existing in the world — their lives matter far more than my discomfort
it’s a conversation i’m glad we started and continue to have — my family has surprised me with their willingness to learn and their desire to make a difference — and while not every conversation has had the same outcome, and it might lead to fights with the people you love and broken friendships, we still have to do it
if you’re looking to educate yourself on how to be an anti-racist and open conversations about racism and police brutality with people in your life here is a google doc of resources made for white people on how to start
talking about police brutality and racism isn’t a one time event — “ally” isn’t a noun, it’s a verb, it’s something we have to do actively every day — and while i know i personally still have so much to learn i do know that nothing will change if we can’t even start conversations with the people in our own social circles
