okay, you know what? Running away shouldn’t be a crime. It shouldn’t be dangerous, either. Any kid should be able to leave their parents if they want, for any reason. No I’m not kidding.
“But Rue, where will these kids stay? Do you want them on the streets?”
of course not. In an ideal world, a kids would have multiple adults other than their parents they could look to for care, but I recognize that that will never be a reality for every single child. So: youth shelters, if they have nowhere else to go. There should be clean, warm shelters where anyone under 18 can stay for as long as they need, no questions asked. (And of course shelters that aren’t just for kids, but we’re talking about youth rights right now)
“But Rue,” I hear you say, “what if some moody teenager runs away after an argument?”
First of all, I’d rather a thousand moody teenagers run away than one abused child be trapped. Second, so what if one does? A kid needs time away from their parents, so they leave. The vast majority of them will get some time to cool down and then go back home, and if they don’t want to go back, period? Then nine times out of ten, they have a good reason. (Because yes, as hard as it is for you to believe, kids are humans who have common sense.)
“Okay, but what about the one time out of ten the kid doesn’t have a good reason?”
Then the kid doesn’t have a good reason. It doesn’t change anything. If someone wants to break up with their partner because of something stupid, you wouldn’t say they legally shouldn’t be able to. (And if you would, then you’re just a bad person.) No one should have to be in a relationship, romantic or otherwise, that they don’t want to be in.
You can really tell who’s never experienced poverty and food insecurity when it comes to discussions around food costs and how unhealthy food is cheaper. Some fucker always comes in with the price of like… lettuce or… apples. And it’s like yeah bitch but can you work an 11 hour shift after eating some salad and an apple!?! Find me something cheaper, and more filling than the broke ass staples of boxed mac and cheese, hot dogs, noodles, bread, beans, and rice. I’ll wait.
It also ignores the mental toll that poverty takes like maybe your home made veggie filled recipe isn’t crazy expensive but it also involves prep time and cooking time and organization in terms of fresh food that a lotta poor people can’t manage.
Not to mention if you can only afford to get to the store once every couple weeks via bus or cab then you can’t keep fresh veg on deck.
But ya know.. poor people are just dumb and lazy.
People are unfazed if you hate women but if you dislike dogs they assume you're a bad person
Tumblr users will read a post complaining about normalized misogyny and hyperfocus on your claim that it's ok to dislike dogs
Tumblr users will see you complain about misogyny and be ok with not liking dogs and go into your inbox and misgender you
Glitch productions rejecting "pretty please I dont want to be a magical girl" so they can instead green light a pilot from Arin N-word Hansen (its not even good)
I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter was one of the best works of sci-fi of our generation and one of the best works of transgender fiction ever written, and there are world renowned authors who still have successful careers after they publicly assassinated the nascent woman who wrote it. I don't think they should ever know peace.
Isabel Fall is the patron saint of works unwritten and art unmade by a culture that cannot tolerate trans women
I think this constantly and then I get angry for thinking it, because trans women should not have to be martyrs or saints to animate our politics and our art. that work should have been her debut, not her epitaph. I should be moved by her career, not her absence. I could spit.

Picture day
I hope you don’t mind that Im only answering this part of your question, but it was a lot to reflect on and unpack.
I think the best way I can describe it is like…. You know how when you do a puzzle, and most people start with the border and work their way inwards?
I think that most people are just the border of a puzzle.
I can look at a crowd and kind of guess whose finished picture is a landscape, or a bunch of balloons, or a classical painting. The colours and shapes give an impression that makes everybody a tiny bit different.
But then like… a LOT of people are puzzles of, say, a field of white flowers. And I can only see the border, so I have to think of like… which borders have more flowers or more grass, more grass or more sky, etc, and whatever is in the middle isn’t even put together yet.
But if someone’s border has, say, something fluorescent yellow in the top left- that makes them easier to differentiate from all the other field-of-white-flowers puzzles. I can remember that. And then later if the bottom half of the puzzle is covered, I can still see the big spot of neon yellow at the top, and remember that no other field-of-white-flowers have that.
And then like…. The more I see them, or the more unique features the have like tattoos or scars or birthmarks or whatever, unique proportions or deformities or injuries or gaits- the more pieces are filled in. So I can retain more parts of the picture in my head
So now instead of just being another border of a puzzle of a field of white flowers, YOU are a windmill in a field of white flowers, or a castle in á valley of white flowers, or a mix of white and red flowers.
And if I see someone often enough for long enough, I get so many pieces in their ten-thousand-piece puzzle that even with a few gaps, I still know exactly who they are, and can still pick them out of a crowd. Because I’ve filled in enough of the picture to know what it is
Like
Like. These aren’t literal. I can SEE your whole face in front of me. I could draw your portrait while I looked at you.
But until I’ve been in consistent contact with you over several years, the first two sketches are how you exist in my head
And from what I’ve heard from other people with face blindness, it’s not even the same for everyone
Does this make sense?
Prosopagnosia
The current research holds that it’s due to an atypical Fusiform Gyrus, which is a little structure in the back of the brain that, in “normal” folks, lights up specifically in response to human faces.
So. Basically. Face Blindness is what we call it when folks do not have the additional, specifically face-detecting hardware in their brain, and have to rely on the Object-Recognition hardware.
Granted, this is an area of active study, and more details may emerge with more research. We’ll see
😭 I was born with a fork where my screwdriver should be and I’m unforking screws better than you've ever seen it done
I have a drop-down sorting system, where everybody is in categories, and it's easier to find you the more unique categories you're attached to.
It's also easier to find people when they're in associated pairs.
For example, I actually can't recognize my mom at all if I run into her unexpectedly at the store, even if she walks up and says hi to me.
And then she stands there patiently while it takes about ten seconds as I run through my formula.
But if she's with another family member, that time drops down to about three seconds.
I can recognize people at a distance, but they have to have defining features as the sort of people I already like, or they have to be in a place I expect to regularly see them.
Also, that puzzle piece analogy and picture are fantastic.
cis people are so interesting (stupid) sometimes because they'll be unable to comprehend the idea of a character being a transgender girl even if they turn to the screen and say "im a girl!" but they think Taylor Swift is gay

Isn’t it kind of fun how when your life sucks you just can’t talk about it with anyone
I’m serious though. When your life reaches a degree of suckage, you find yourself having to look elsewhere for anything at all to talk about. The things going on in your life are trauma dumping. Your past is probably also trauma dumping. So you have to get really weird about specific things or hope that others want to talk to you, because very quickly people are going to develop an aversion to you and the way your life sucks. Unless you just don’t talk about it
It’s socially isolating, which is dangerous—when you’re in this sort of situation, community is the difference between life and death, housing and homelessness.
I think the collective prioritization of comfort first is hurting people in a real and material sense
Adipocere Chandelle
After our earlier test run of Crooked Moon, my friend is running a new campaign for it from the start Levels 3-20.
I will be playing a Threadborn Occultist Wizard with the name of the post.
She'll be known as Adi or Candle for short.
Adi will be a 2'8" 17.5 lb. porcelain doll, with cracks all over her body that look to be sealed together with gold, as in:
When she causes an Intrusion, these cracks will split open and apart temporarily, revealing an Eldritch portal inside (sort of like Marx from Kirby,) which the Intrusion effect will come out of.
I am trying to decide what her other features will look like, hair color and style, eyes, makeup, and the such, and would like suggestions and help.
I am also open to hearing advice on playing a Wizard in Crooked Moon from people who've played it more.
