Sometimes when people try to dismiss the heteronormativity of the weird route they will cite the commonly held idea that hometown is this progressive queer accepting wonderland, and I think that idea is always very silly. Yeah there’s an open gay couple, but Rudy and Berdly both no-homo asgore’s gifts of flowers to Rudy. People will use the right pronouns for you but both ghosts who can’t transition don’t leave their home. Anyone can be voted for festival king and queen regardless of gender, but the titles are still gendered and the only couples we know to have won were straight. Hometown is a progressive leaning suburb that falls short in the way progressive leaning suburbs tend to. You generally won’t be in physical danger as a queer person, but you will remain an afterthought at best.
But how can I expect people to take note of any of that when they don’t take seriously the misogyny of most of the men in hometown
