Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.

people who don't understand why some fans (mostly black and bipoc fans) think the writing in this season is racist:

unexplained racialized verbal abuse (claudia and daniel at and about louis and even towards claudia herself)

calling louis a slave but then praising and absolving the white man who would have been his 'master' in the same breath

torture porn of the black abuse victim with no real reason - they could have achieved the same armand backstory with something different - what the fuck was the point of that and to brand him after???

writing bipoc characters as just emotional support characters to the white character

absolving a white abuser from ipv and transferring that blame back to the black victim

people will explain away all the points above and say each point was somehow necessary, but the most appalling thing of all is:

s1 and 2 was a black show. whether amc marketed it as such is irrelevant, it fits the criteria of having two black protagonists that have rich backstories

this show went from louis killing fenwick and putting a colored-only sign up to whatever the fuck this is now

this bait-and-switch is absolutely ridiculous. so amc builds the show off the backbones of their black cast members but then dehumanizes them once the white protagonist becomes the main character.

armand's, a south asian character, entire plotline this season was irrelevant basically. they set up this whole fucking thing about the great conversion only for it to be torture porn for the black character WHILE ONCE AGAIN ABSOLVING THE WHITE ABUSER.

all this season did was paint bipoc characters (louis, claudia, armand) as the most one-dimensional characters that nod yes or become an obstacle for the white character - the most hurtful part is that s1 and 2 was dealt with with such care only for black and bipoc fans to be duped.

and most of all, though this point is not the fault of the writers perse, this fandom is so fucking racist they will latch onto pimp louis and evil lyncher armand for the next two years even if things do get explained later and the racism real bipoc fans are about to see in the fandom is about to be so egregious because this show is showing they fucking sanction it.

i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.

people have really got to understand that there are many valid reasons someone might choose not to seek therapy or other psychiatric care, and that refusal to see a therapist or go on meds does not equate to someone being "unwilling to get better".

I have been told multiple times by multiple people some variation of "there is something deeply wrong with you. the only way it can possibly be fixed is therapy. nothing else will help. if you're not willing to talk to a therapist, stop complaining about the problem. it's not my fault that you don't want to get better". at some point I think it would be great for everyone to consider how that kind of narrative might be harmful and incorrect. if for whatever reason you personally cannot handle hearing about someone else's struggles there are ways you can communicate this to them that don't involve claiming that one specific form of psychiatric care is their only chance of ever recovering, or that their discomfort with that specific form of care indicates that they don't want to recover.
